This place is my happy place. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, the treats are great, the staff is helpful. I go here at least 2-3 times a month when I live half an hour away haha but in the summer my favorite activity is to pick up an iced coffee and go for a walk by the lake. A few issues: the price is insane and they run out of products really fast, so if you're planning on going after work in the evening, you're probably going to be out of luck and will get minimal offerings. Lastly, I don't think the treats are healthy lol so I'm not sure why they're marketed as such..maybe write relatively healthy (in relation to other bake shopped), but seriously not healthy. read more

I honestly did not know it was vegan so when I tried it I was shocked. For a vegan cupcake it's pretty good but I don't know.

I had to try this place out after I was gifted a cookbook written by the owners of this bake shop. I have to say that this place exceeded my expectations. I bought a dulce de leche cupcake and a cup of tea for a mid morning snack. Their products are completely vegan so I didn't have to worry about halal ingredients, which was a relief to me. The cupcake was moist and fluffy and not too sickly sweet (as most cupcakes are) the cream on the top was the best part! A delicate trail of caramel sauce on top of the cream added a pop of visual interest and a hit of flavour! I will definitely be returning anytime I'm passing through Burlington! Four stars because of the prices here (astronomical) but the desserts ... O.M.G. The entire time we were here, the entire place was filled with customers coming in and out. They definitely have a strong following and no trouble keeping business. The place itself is beautiful - even the bathroom is classy! The treats are all displayed in a very visually pleasing way, though the prices are sort of hard to find. They have a huge selection of cupcakes, and also have brownies, cookies, squares, muffins, ice cream and more. Everything is gluten free and vegan. EVERYTHING. And y'know what? I went with 3 others who did not need gluten free and brought my husband home a cupcake and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their treats. There were no complaints of dryness or lack of flavor. Everything was divine. The mile high brownie was the first thing I devoured and it was worth every penny. My husband enjoyed the dulce de leche (sp?) cupcake and loved it. I brought a few treats to save for later (black and white cupcake and snicker doodle sandwich cookie), and sneaky bites of each (for the purposes of this review only) have been amazing. I love the girly girl/pink interior of Kelly's Bake Shoppe. Their cookies (chocolate chip, skinny) and mile high brownie are phenomenal. I could not tell the difference between their vegan cookies and a regular cookie from a local non vegan bakery. Their cupcakes were just mediocre- I tried the vanilla and cookies n' cream cupcakes- they were too bland/both tasted the exact same to me. Very good cupcakes! Moist and not overly loaded with sugary icing. Dark chocolate was my fave. I had to ask them again after I ate it to make sure it was vegan. Even tasted better than other shops in Toronto which aren't gluten free. I hope I have more excuses to make the trip out here for more! Blech!!!! Waited in line for 20 minutes because of the rave reviews. Dry...no flavour. Total complete waste of money. When My kids didn't want to finish the cupcakes, you know they're bad....Do yourself a favour and go to a bakery where they use eggs, dairy and flour with gluten! If you have severe allergies/dietary restrictions, I suppose you'd be stuck with eating cupcakes like this but if you're not, drive by. Great service and atmosphere! Some items are more than $5 which is quite pricy for what you get. Quotes on wedding cakes are double the price of other vegan bakeries for a simple cake. I agree with other posts that some cupcakes aren't worth the price as they are bland. read more

With the press these vegan cupcakes are getting I thought they'd be better. We bought three cupcakes. The only one we liked was the black magic cupcake which we were told was top to bottom cocoa. It's taste was good but not quite the chocolate cupcake expected. The worst of the cupcakes was the red velvet. Its taste was terrible and not at all like red velvet. I think what made up for the disappointing cupcakes was the staff. They were wonderfully helpful with helping choose what to get. read more

i loved this place so much ​i didn't​ mind paying the price for their cupcakes. i would go there often with the kids and it always ended up being ​pricey​ but I​ like local business and they​ are gluten-free​, vegan and no sugar. the servers are sweet, the place is clean, trendy but once I​ found out how much sugar is in one cupcake​. well let's just​ say i would rather feed spoonfuls of white refined sugar to my kids. their soft serve is not something to write home about. Amazing gluten free dairy free cupcakes ! We didn't realize that when we stopped in but decided to try them anyway and we were glad we did!! My favorites are the sunbutter and pumpkin spice latte. Also the staff was so very friendly and happy to answer all our questions ! We don't eat gluten free because we have to but loved these so much we came back a second time before heading home to Colorado. Having lived in Chicago for four years and having enjoyed the multiple vegan friendly bakeries coming home to find this gem was a a great surprise. The mile high brownie is to die for it has a great texture and nice and light. Also tried the cookie sandwich very rich for my taste but I know several people who would love it! And the ice cream don't even get me started :) I have friends coming to visit in a few weeks and this will definitely be a spot we are stopping at...a few times :) read more

Not sure why the fuss about this place. It's not good. They have a great marketing team and a nice clean shop with friendly staff. The line ups are long, but that wouldn't bother me if the food was worth it. It wasn't. Bland. No flavour. It's as if they took all these delicious looking cookies, cakes and ice cream and made them...dull. The Nanaimo bar was really lifeless - a shame. I've had better bars at St.Lawrence market. The 2 bite brownies at the grocery store are more tasty than the ones from here. Perhaps its the gluten free and totally vegan ingredients that take away from the flavour? read more

We traveled from Waterloo to check out Kelly's after multiple friends had recommended it upon learning that my son has a peanut allergy. I am so glad we finally visited, because the treats were fantastic! We bought six items- we wanted to make it worth the long drive- I chose a pumpkin scone and a world peace cookie, my husband chose the root beer float cupcake, and my boys chose the birthday cake cupcake, a chocolate cupcake and a sprinkle doughnut. We actually ate everything within our 20 minutes sitting out front of the store AND my son with the peanut allergy asked if he could buy another great before we left. We obliged, as it's not often we find a peanut free treat shop! I also appreciated that the staff member who helped us suggested we buy a sixth item to save the taxes. Often, stores offer these promotions but staff couldn't be bothered to promote them. We appreciated the attentive service! As someone with a peanut allergy, I can certainly appreciate a bakery that's careful about ingredients. I tried some cupcakes, some cookies, and my fiancée had what I think was a brownie. Honestly, it's just not good. I'm not sure what the rest of the vegan and other diet restrictions market is like for desserts but they just... weren't good. And they're desserts - if they aren't good, what's the point? I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. It's a cute place though, and they certainly have an eye for design, so I can understand its popularity from that sort of perspective. read more

I like to support any place supporting eating a vegan diet...an I'm not one to be harsh...but don't bother. If you have had other delicious vegan/gluten-free baked goods, this place will be a waste of time as it won't compare. Head downtown Toronto to some amazing bakeries, or scout out some others in the Oakville area. Gluten Free, etc options are great, but their products are way too sweet, plus I believe they sweeten with Agave, which is not good for you (very high fructose). Have some non-vegan skeptics? Hit them with a bite of the Mile-High brownie and they'll be converted. The brownie is moist, but the real kicker is the Ganache drizzled on top. I'm a sucker for anything with their decadent ganache, so naturally I love their black magic cupcake - rich chocolate cake filled with ganache. But they're not all about rich, chocolately decadence. Some of their cupcakes that rival the Black Magic & Mile High brownie are most definitely the Lemon cupcake & Red Velvet. The Lemon is perfect - so light, flavorful but not overpowering, and has, in my opinion, the best icing on top (also slightly lemon). Just a perfect, light, treat. The Red Velvet is unbelievable - and the most flavorful cake base for sure. I'd say avoid the Vanilla and Cookies and Cream - they don't stand up to the others. And their cookies - I wasn't blown away by their chocolate cookie, but others have sworn by it. For me - it's all about their World Peace Cookie. I could eat a dozen in one go. They're the perfect oat cookie. Even if you're not a fan of oats, I guarantee you will love this one. Cupcakes are dry, overly sweet, yet flavourless. The icing is oily from all the palm shortening they use and their 'caramel' tastes like acid. Also, could the girls at the counter be any more fake? Don't believe the hype. read more
