I love Kell's Kreme. If you are a soft serve fan, this is a great place to get some. It's a walk-up window only, which is perfect because you can take your cone across the street to the beach. Portions are huge and prices are low. They have plenty of swirl flavors, which I love. My standard is a vanilla cone with butterscotch swirl and crunch coat. The soft serve is rich and creamy. This place is soo mid and overhyped (they claim to be world famous??) During peak summer days, this place has a decently large line but it's really not worth the wait at all. It might cater better to those who are at this side of Revere Beach but please, if you can, make the trek down to the beginning of the beach and go to Twist & Shake. The prices here are high for what you're getting. We spent almost $40 for 2 cones and a very miiiiiddd banana split. There's absolutely no friendliness in the "service" here too. The soft serve melts within 15 seconds of it coming out of the machine (we didn't have one hot day this summer so it's not the temperature outside) and the taste is lacking. I went there last night (Friday night) to order 2 hot fudge sundaes at 8:39PM. when I placed my order the girl that was working said; I can't make any sundaes because we are closing at 9:00. I looked at my phone and said; ok, but it's 8:39, so aren't you open for 21 more mins?? Btw, there were also other people in line that wanted sundaes. She said sorry, I can't do it, I can do regular ice cream. When a business is open they need to serve their FULL menu until they close. I should have been able to order a sundae at 8:58 if they are open until 9:00. Looks like they hired a couple of lazy kids who couldn't be bothered doing their job. My husband and I went to Kell's Kreme for the first time yesterday. We are traveling from out of state, and wanted to stop by to grab some ice cream! FIRST, the ice cream is delicious! I ordered a banana bucket, and let me tell you it looked fabulous!! The young staff were so so kind in helping us decide what to order! This isn't something I normally comment on, but you could just tell that the inside of the store is kept clean ALL THE TIME. Before making our banana bucket, the young lady in the back was constantly wiping down the counters, and changing her gloves. It was only 9:00pm when we stopped by on Sunday night. There were three workers inside and Yelp stated they were open until 11:00pm. They signalled that they were closed. I guess I will have to wait until my next visit to get my fix of Dole Whip. The two other ice cream shops on Rebere beach were closed as well so we ended up at a 7-11. I was rather happy to find Friendly's black Raspberry and some really good Italian ice. Kell's is located just doors down from Kelly's which always is open when they are supposed to be. I've read reviews from those of you who think $5 for a homemade ice cream is pricey. I personally don't mind paying for decadent ice cream. That being said, today we stopped at Kell's Kreme in Revere. Prices were not clearly listed, but we ordered 3 smalls (their sizes are kiddie, small and large, so technically it was their medium) $6 each (so $18 for 3) soft serve vanilla ice cream with a flavor swirl not even swirled in well, in a cake cone! I'd hate to know how much the Strawberry Shortcake costs now. Service was pretty lackluster too. I sadly miss Banana Boat. This was such a rip off, yet crowded because it's a tourist trap.. I mean I was here plenty of times in the summer, it counts. I always stuck to small cones with the additional flavors. All of them are my favorite LOL. I enjoy every single one, but I get the peanut coating on it too! Even the small cones are filling enough for me. Whoo! This place deserves 5 stars for one reason: they serve honest to goodness Dole Whip. It may not be called that on the menu (they call it Dole Soft Serve) but it's the real deal. I spotted a faded dole poster in the window while driving by and insisted we go back to investigate, as I had only ever seen Dole Whip sold in Disney World and the Dole plantation in Hawaii. So trust me when I say that this experience is a real option at Kells Kreme, and you should just let it happen. So you are at the beach, enjoying the sun, sand, and surf. As you stroll down the edge of the Atlantic ocean you see a sign for an soft serve stand, and think that a cold treat sounds nice. As you approach your bill paying, business reviewing, adult self is confronted with your finger licking, soft serve loving, child self in internal dialogue form. "Wait, why are we doing this? We have food at home." "But it's right there! I wanted ice cream!" "A large is nearly $5! You can get two quarts at the supermarket for that much." "I WANT IT! I WANT IT! IWANTITIWANTITIWANTIT!" "OK fine, whatever it takes to get some quiet around here. You better enjoy it, and you better not make a mess." The teenagers at the counter try not to judge your talking to your self as you approach. In true soft serve fashion, you can get chocolate, vanilla, or a blend of the two. If you get vanilla, you can also FLAVOR BURST it with colorful options like cotton candy, strawberry, and others. It all sounds so tempting, but the FLAVOR BURST is more like food coloring, and FLAVOR EMPTY PROMISES, but their toppings are great. The gummy bears will not stick, so I got mine in a separate cup, and was off to the races. The bill paying adult takes a break as soon as the debit card returns to your wallet, and the inner child takes control as soon as that cone hits your hand. Predictably he never remembers to get napkins, so of course it makes a huge mess as you (both?) sit on the nearby retaining wall, and enjoy your treat. You are in too deep though, so your hands are a sticky, chocoatey mess when you finish, and the adult takes over again. The kid is not completely gone, so feel no shame in calmly walking to the ocean, and rinsing your hands in the waves before carrying on with those pants, bills, and online reviews that never seem to go away. read more

The soft serve here is pretty good, but it's staffed by people that are rude and pretty incompetent. I asked the girl at the counter if Dole Whip (which is what they serve) was the same thing as soft serve... she said she didn't know. I asked about the sizes, and how big they were and she just repeated the sizes over and over again with a sneer. I could see the sizes listed, I wanted to know how big they were...The servers are useless when it comes to helping you and have the AUDACITY to be rude about answering questions. How can you treat someone so rudely for asking a 'stupid' question when you can't even realize you're the one that's not comprehending the question. And, to top it off, they overcharged me and when I asked for it to be fixed they sort of just shrugged it off and told me to wait and then took more customers. It wasn't a huge amount of money, so I ended up just leaving. If you want something cold and sweet while your on the beach, get a milkshake from Kelly's or a little further down there's Bianchi's, both places have far better service and equally good products. read more

My girlfriend lives walking distance from Kell's, so we go for a stroll to get some delicious soft serve when it's nice out. I LOVE soft serve. I love Wendy's Frosties and McDonalds Milkshakes. I do not like hard Ben & Jerry's. Just some life advice, but if it's 100 degrees and you get a cone, it will melt down your hand. Kell's cannot change the weather, but you can ask for a cup to eat your ice cream soup out of. It's hard to give them a bad review since your interactions will be extremely brief. You pick your size (kiddie, small, or large), flavor (vanilla, chocolate, or swirl), and then your toppings (I don't get anything but jimmies). You pay (cash or credit), and you're off. It's not an overly complicated transaction. The small size (technically a medium) is enough for 2 normal size people to share. Kiddie size is perfect for 1. The lines can get insane, especially on a nice night, but they move fast. Don't forget your Lactaid pills. read more

Sure, it's just basic soft serve, but who doesn't love a soft serve on the beach? In my humble opinion, they have the best jimmies (what the non-Massholes errantly call 'sprinkles') in the free world. They taste like actual chocolate as opposed to brown-tinted Crisco. The brownie sundae is ginormous by the way, ergo, I recommend it highly. Definitely old school soft serve: vanilla, chocolate, or swirl... which keeps the decisions simple... but you can get creative and choose cup or cone and most of the traditional toppings. They also offer an amazing looking banana bucket (banana split)... and when I was there they had a cookie dough sundae = amazing! First of all, it was huge... and then it was basically ice cream topped with a warm cookie dough topping that was delicious. My mom loves Kell's (which was previously Kelly's Kreme and once associated with Kelly's Roast Beef)- and I wouldn't be surprised if this was the sole milk source she gave me growing up... (JK). There is nothing ordinary about this soft serve ice cream... it actually tastes like cold, sweet, cream and not some processed junk with lots of fillers... As it melts in my mouth, my tongue dances and waters for more... (in fact it's watering right now... lol) This is the real deal. If you like Hot fudge... GO FOR IT! Their Hot Fudge is rich, thick and nutty flavored!!! Not like the syrup used at other places... though they do have syrup, so make sure you specify what you want so you get the right yummy-liciousness! I only get the ice cream and the hot fudge, yet they charge me for the full sundae... and I am totally okay with that... simply because, when I want it, I want it... and I love them too much to boycott. I am not a fan of their whipped cream, it is a little flat for my taste and texture palate. But did I mention how awesome the Hot Fudge is? Yes?... okay.... They also have those flavored dips, that harden over the ice cream... they have chocolate, butterscotch and raspberry I think. I haven't had that since I was a kid, but I remember it being pretty good back then... This place is amazing. Their soft serve is not a Typical soft serve. It's different, and full of richness. I tried their sundae butterscotch, and I was in a world of delightfulness. I wanted to get another one right after I finished the first, but something came up so I couldn't. I am definitely looking forward for another one.
