This bars has the worst bar tenders. No personal skills, customer service, and the girl that helped us had an attitude. She was rude, impersonal, and a total 100% bitch. This place was my first time here and the bartender was so rude. Not personable and he was serving drinks after hours. He rushed us to finish our drinks and especially on one side of the bar because cops "would see us " and then he said patrons paid before the cut off. Highly doubt it , it look like favoritism. Definitely not the Kelley's from the high school days. Even though previous owner was a huge racist and lame he kept the Irish tradition going which was cool. Seems like a Irish Mexican bought it and has a totally different vibe. Even though looks like they brought all the girl bartenders from the Glen definitely feels awkward and lame. They advertise happy hour all day but their prices are high and the bartenders act stuck up and too good for U. I guess I'll try the Stardust see how it is see if they kept the same vibes. read more

I asked her for a mix drink, and her response was, "this is an Irish Bar, we only have Irish drinks." That was an unacceptable answer, if it was my customer I would have conveyed that message in a positive way and offer a different drink. However, it appeared as if I was a burden to her. I was out with a group of friends this past rainy Saturday, when we decided to check this place out...SCORE. Nice calm diverse crowd. Drink prices are very fair, 3 beers + 3 mixed drinks + 2 waters = $28. Music was a medley of old and new tunes! The only complain, there is no privacy in the men's restroom. read more

I use to go to this bar all the time when I was younger before I moved to the OC, we loved coming here. Last night was so BAD 4th of July weekend 1 RUDE ass bartender! She was rude to everyone at the bar, making it seem like it's our fault she the only one there giving drinks and cleaning glasses! She lucky I didn't snatch that blue hair off of her at the end. I don't know how she continues to work there, just because your the owners STEP daughter should be a reason for bitchy service. She took forever to give drinks out, normally bartender are fast and on to the next but she would talk and complain about her being the only one there and people trying to get her attention for a drink! Well yes idiot your a bartender! One of the worst experiences at a bar I've ever had! And at the end she does last call, take forever to give us our drinks and is rushing us to drink it after she took more then 20 mins to give it to us, threatening she will take the drink and throw it in the sink. I went in with a group of 5 friends on an rainy day. We were looking to listen to music and have a few drinks. We put $20 in the jukebox and ordered our drinks. The bartender didn't know how to make anything we were ordering... And we weren't ordering fancy drinks. Just the basics. She apologized because she said she's new. Ok, fair enough. During the first song, the power went out. Not their fault. However, the bartender wanted us to pay for our drinks immediately even though she couldn't open the cash register to give change. On top of that, they wouldn't return the jukebox money. The owner also refused to take any more calls from his new employee, a female stuck in a crappy bar, in the dark, with a bunch of intoxicated men. She was clearly nervous and upset. Bartender called owner, Kelly, who berated her and said we could come back the following day for the $20 jukebox money and that she should announce last call, have everyone pay, and get out. I asked her to find out if the owner would let her give us back $20 from the $40 we just overpaid for our drinks. He said No. My friend, a working mom, took time out of her busy day to get the jukebox refund she was promised. She was treated poorly and they refused to refund her. Seems to me this owner is a p.o.s. who treats his employees and customers like dirt. I will NEVER spend another dime at this place. Once upon a time Kelley's was the spot. Now, it's so not the case. No ac, so summer sucks, they serve your mixed drinks in plastic cups, AND if you put money in the juke box and the bartender doesn't like what you're playing, she'll skip it! True story. I saw this SEVERAL times. I know its a dive bar but this spot blows. Save your money for gas and find yourself a better dive bar. Coming into a dive bar, I know you can't have high expectations, but they can deliver you a good time with friends. Stepping into Kelley's, I was expecting such, only to be disappointed by a very rude bartender. Rude being the nicest word I could use without being obscene. Even by dive bar standards, never have I had a worst experience attempting to order a drink. She was slow even when the bar was empty. Wasted a lot of time trying to be flashy when opening beer bottles. Multiple times showed attitude to customers when ordering a mix drink. Speaking of mix drinks, she claimed to know how to make every drink, which was a lie. The drinks she claimed she did know, as I watched her prepare them, were made wrong or were missing ingredients. Yet I still would tip her good, hoping that her attitude would change, and lighten up a little, but didn't. Overall my experience would have been completely different minus the bartender. Kelley's has potential, but with a bartender handling customer the way she was, gives me no choice but to give this place a one. I really wanted to like this place, but was impossible to do so. They only have one bartender... so be prepared to be ignored for a while, luckily when I've shown up I get a spot right at the bar so getting drinks is not too challenging. 2. It's cash only, they do have an ATM though 3. Bartender can be a bit rude. 4. I did notice that the bartender controls the juke box so if there's a song that's playing and they don't like it... yup, she'll skip it. So I grew up in Downey and for as long as I can remember Kelly's Tavern has always been on Firestone with it's little green shamrock around its name. And everytime I drove by it (usually while going to the post office or Mr. Pete's) I'd think to myself - who the hell would want to go to a bar in Downey? Well. 8 years later I found out. One drunken night a few weeks ago, my best friend and I were coming back from Old Town and decided - hey. let's check out Kelly's Tavern. It was surprisingly packed at 1am and even though the crowd was definitely not "my crowd" we decided to go in. It's a total dive bar but to my surprise, I had a great time (although I spent half the time avoiding the slightly creepy bouncer who was too drunk to really do anything effective). I mean I live 2 minutes from this place so it's just very convenient for me to get some drinks while meeting your typical local. Awesome Local dive bar located in the heart of Downey. They have a small beer selection but the ambiance and prices they have here are off the hook!! Mixed drinks are $5 all night long!! Beers are $3.50!!! I've been coming here since I was 21. Regular walk in with me and some friends. Just recently came back for a drink or two. Friendly bar tenders, friendly people and plenty of places to hang out afterwards. Plenty of food places to eat after and a new club that just opened next door. My first time there. The bartender with the pink hair and pink shoes copped a foul attitude because my friend was served Guinness in a plastic cup and asked if she could get a glass, which she refused to provide. They had two inconvenient rules on St Patty's day. No drinks served in glass and cash only after 6pm. The bartender was unnecessarily being a smart ass and couldn't care less how she treated paying customers. Obviously after experiencing her immaturity we asked if we could be served by a different bartender. She promptly told us we were done and called security to kick us out. This was all before even being close to tipsy. Never have I ever come close to being kicked out of a bar. The security just let us know they have the right to refuse service. A male bartender stepped it up and continued serving us. In my opinion this all could have been avoided if the bartender had better people skills and lived by the golden rule. Treat people how you want to be treated. When you go to spend your money at any establishment, the last thing you expect is for the staff to repeatedly disrespect you then try to kick you out as if you were the problem.
