This park is closest to my house. But, every time we go we have a problem. Loose, stray or abandoned animals. Homeless. Got rushed by a pack of loose dogs before. Not cool. I won't go there anymore. read more

An unknown park that you will miss if you don't pay attention. It looks like a typical Houston park with picnic tables and playgrounds. Venture on the trails and continue further......further...... until you come to the body of water and open fields. Like the Red Sea opening from the power of Moses, the view is gorgeous with the orb circulating the small lake and it's contents. Never met Keith Wiess but he's a gem after exploring here! read more

Absolutely beautiful park! You can tell it's been updated quite a bit with gorgeous views, bike and walking trails over the lake, and a bird sanctuary. The one thing I've noticed is that people do not respect the park. They are riding their loud four-wheeler buggys causing noise pollution and littering all over the park. I've seen everything here...even horseback riding and fishing! Another thing is to be careful when parking on the street by the neighborhood because my friend's car got broken into a couple of years ago. Sometimes there are other cars parked there with people watching where you put your valuables. There have been one or two sketchy characters in the park but I've never felt unsafe. There's always enough people circling the park that you're not completely on your own. One of my favorite parts about the park is the butterflies. There are certain season where you'll see so many of them fluttering all over the park along your path! Also, try to wear some bug spray because there are flies during super humid days too. read more

I am shocked that this park is so unknown! I get it, the park is not in the best of the neighborhood but once you get past that it almost feels like you're at a state park or a national Park. I really enjoy this park! I feel like this park is simply amazing. I really enjoy the outdoors and if you like being outdoors this is a great park for you to check out. I was really disappointed to see so much litter and litter in going on. I saw lots of litter, Beer cans, beer bottles, snacks wrappers, just a bunch of litter. Usually people respect parks and don't litter. Also dog poop, if you are walking your dog the state law says and requires for you to pick up your dog poop. Don't be a lazy ass. This park is simply an oasis, it's a hidden gem that not too many people know about And if you like parks and are in the Houston area I highly suggest that you check this park out. Great for biking, great for walking, great for being outdoors. * Sidenote I did see some loose dogs, so it may be best to take a Walkingstick, Mace, or a knife. read more

Keith Wiess!! What a hidden gem. In the heart of a bit sketchy area of Houston, there is a road that takes you to quite a breathtaking view. I went with a friend fishing.. it was quite a walk to the lake where the piers are... wasn't the easiest considering I had quite a load of items with me. However, once we reached the destination.. it was so breathtaking! Worth the walk. I loved this park once the clearing came through and you can see the trails and paths through this beautiful park. Will definitely be back again. read more

I come here a couple times a week to go running. The paved trail is short but there are longer trails available to you if you don't mind getting your running shoes a little dusty. The terrain is very flat which, if you are a runner is nice, if you are a beginner. More experienced/competitive runners may find the lack of inclines a bit tedious. I run strictly to keep in shape so it doesn't bother me. The park is very clean and safe. You will see litter here and there. I have never seen a park ranger or custodian on site. I see lots of families out walking the paths. Some people go there to fish. It's a decent blend of people enjoying the park. I always feel very safe when I go running here. Parking is free, and the parking lot is well maintained, but can get kinda full on the weekends. read more

This park is a great park to walk around to bring your little ones out and just be them . Great for hiking the views are beautiful!

There is trash everywhere and teenagers that are inappropriate on the playground. I'm sure there is a lot of illegal activity that goes on there. Although there are other reviews that are saying good things about the park, they are pretty much all old. I would imagine this park has gone downhill over the last few years. read more

Pretty great park to come biking, fishing, walking, or even running if you like to do that. The day I came to this park, I was able to ride my bicycle without any problems as the path was smooth and not bumpy like the streets in Houston. From the outside the park looks OK, but once you continue to walk deeper you'll find a giant lake with a cute little boardwalk and nice hills too. The scenery was definitely a plus which keeps me coming back for more views. The main thing I don't like about this park is once you are deep within walking the park you'll have to travel on the same path from the beginning to get back to your vehicles which is frustrating if you are near the residential neighborhood. read more

I was walking and I saw a man around 60 I think he was homeless he looked old and he want in the forest watching young children walk while he was touching himself inappropriately I've seen him do this multiple times already and It is NOT a safe place for children to play. read more

This place is amazing but filthy no one keeps it clean I've seen the same trash for the past month it upsets me to see parks and recreation just drive in and take pictures and leave and the workers who ride in golf carts just clean the trash bins but nothing else trash all through the ground trials filthy just a horrible way to treat nature and it's animals destroying its habitat contact if you can give me information on to fix this read more

This is a hidden and a huge unknown park in North Houston! The City of Houston recently added major $$$ to update/create this park into a stormwater detention basin. It's about 112 acres and has over 7 miles of trail. It is a little difficult to find the entrance - I ended up finding a small entrance (about 6 parking spots?) on the northeast corner of the park on Orange Grove. I'm sure there is another entrance but that would require further investigation. You end up traveling through an old neighborhood - which is why this place truly is a surprise. The entrance however, smells because of local trash and residential dumping. Endure a bit of that and you're completely surrounded by nature as you travel further in. Parts of it is shady as there is a trail for roadbikes (cemented path with road lines on it!) and dirt roads. When you are closer to the ponds (huge areas with people fishing) you can see there are little baby trees but definitely no shade there.The trail is great for biking - lots of hilly curves and enough room for both pedestrians and cyclists. For its size this place was relatively empty. It ranks as one of the bigger parks in North Houston, if not the most expansive. I will be returning with my bike and dog Bandit so we can freely roam around! Woof! read more

I live about 10 minutes away and finally visited this great park. I walked to the lakes and even explored off the paved trail There are miles of ood hike and bike trails, and the park is overall clean. I discovered a hidden piece of art on the trail along the bayou near the bridge. You'll see lots of native flora, but also enough invasives to remind you that you are in the middle of an urban area. The planners worked well to let mother nature do her thing and us enjoy the space. read more

Keith-Wiess Park (note spelling) is a 499.46 acre parcel, with 170 acres now devoted to sports fields, and 111 acres cleared for detention ponds. The remaining 140 acres has a good mix of coniferous and deciduous forest, with a few gravel trails. It's nice to find a block of forest in the middle of the city, but this is relatively undeveloped, with almost no signage, and no map of trails available on the City of Houston websites. Finding access points and potential parking seems to be best accomplished with satellite maps. (Parks under the jurisdiction of Harris County seem to fare a bit better, and maps are available for all of those. The City needs to up their game.) The east-side trail I walked was attractive, curving, and wide. In 25-minutes, I encountered two dogs out on their own, and a lone runner. It might be wise to bring pepper spray for potential encounters with unsupervised animals. Horse dung on the path suggests that there is at least one stable nearby. Adjoining neighborhoods are a bit dicey. I did not investigate the sports fields and facilities on the western side of the park. Note that there was a homicide here in December 2013. On my way here I was getting worried. I said to my cousin hey this place looks ghetto. When I got there. The park was amazing. The trail was great. It was a bit over a mile and a half trail. We saw rabbits everywhere and had a good time. Enough shade on the trail to where we didn't even need sunscreen. Definitely one of my favorite parks. read more

Absolutely a hidden gem, this park is nicer (much nicer) than Memorial Park. Miles of shaded concrete paths weave through an east Texas wilderness of marshes and swamps, meadows and forests. There are beautiful vistas with the meadow and ponds. I saw more wildlife here than I normally ever see camping in the backcountry and it is all very nicely maintained, clean, and safe. The park could use some trail signage -- take your phone with a map app. read more

This park is one of my favorite hidden gems! The alterations that have been done to this place are incredible! By far my favorite spot to go jogging, biking, or to just grab a seat and relax! Has a great playground for kids, new trail for those going to walk/jog/run/ride, and a beautiful lake to admire or go fishing in! This park is a jewel. There of course is the kiddie playground area, which was tons of fun for the grandson. But it's the trails that are amazing. There are little bridges and fishing docks. I believe it's a water retention basin. It's well thought out. There were a few runners/walker but nothing like Memorial. I couldn't find water fountains on the trails. The trails just keep on going and on...walk towards the back of the park, that's where all the interesting surprises are. oh yeah very natural. cell phone service was 4 bars. read more
