Status update 2023: the boiler / heating unit they tried to fear my wife into fully replacing continues to work fine after the minor repair from PSE&G. Do not use this company!!! Waited over a month for service appointmen. They charge a $137 service call just to tell you there is nothing they can do and that you need a whole new AC system. When asked the serviceman to just change the thermostat we were told that it would do nothing and refused to repair. We had a new thermostat installed and the system is working fine. They take your money for a service call and do nothing for it! BBB should be informed of their business procedure! read more

I called them for a central air estimate based on the good reviews they had. Estimate was for 11,500 which I was told included discounts. That seemed high for the 960 SqFt of space I needed cooled. In doing due diligence I received a proposal from another HVAC company recommended by family and friends. Their proposal for the same exact work came in at 6,500! In fact it even had a little larger of a unit and a better R Rating on the ductwork. Needless to say I won't be using Keil on the install. Definitely shop around! read more

I just moved into my new place. I'm not familiar with it and since it's the beginning of Winter, I called Keil to come and inspect the furnace and hot water heater. Joe was very professional during our phone conversation and set me up with an appointment. He offered several day and hour options and gave me great clarity about what to expect. I received a reminder call the day before and a call on the day of the appointment. The technician Anthony arrived right on time and took great care of my home. He was very professional and took the time to explain the workings of my home's equipment. Keil was extremely helpful. I am a chemo patient and can't stand any heat. Although I wanted my AC immediately they were booked, but we then lost power for days and I was getting so very ill. Keil worked with me, and as soon as my power was up again they removed my old AC and Air Handler and installed new. They worked extremely hard to get everything done in a day in severe heat. I have only had it up and running for a while, but I am so thankful for their prompt attention and quick install. All of their employees were extremely professional and understanding. They have serviced our heating system for approximately 8 years. When we called for an evaluation to replace our existing furnace (28 years old) the field rep talked us out if it. This company is not very good. We had to call someone else to do a simple repair of some wiring to an outside compresser. The wires were chewed by an animal of some kind. Why couldn't a good service company fined that out. Go somewhere else!!! read more

I would prefer to rate Keil Heating & Air Conditioning with no stars but that does not seem to be an option. I had one of their repair men at my home today to fix my a/c which was not cooling. The diagnosis was that I needed a charge of freon. The system needed 4 lbs of freon and they were charging $93 per lb. I was appalled and called their office and they lowered the cost to $74 per lb. They gave me an excuse that the mfrs are no longer making freon and the price has tripled. After Keil's left, I called a friend of mine who has an hvac business (I didn't call him to repair my system as he is not local). He told me that he is currently paying $15 per pound for freon. Keil's is literally ripping people off charging $93 per lb for a freon charge. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

My water heater broke the other evening, and was leaking water in the basement. I've contacted other plumbers in the past, and they've always tried to tell me things are worse than they are. Most plumbers assume customers know very little, in my case this was more of a time issue, had this happened on a Friday I would have replaced it myself. After looking through Yelp I decided to give Keil a call, I spent a few years living in Butler, so I've seen their trucks around for a long time, and most of the reviews here were very good. The person I talked to was very pleasant, took my information, and gave me a price. It was a little high, but not terrible. Within 24 hours two workers were at my house with the new water heater. I did do some prep work, shutting off the water, and draining most of the tank, but they were still fantastic. They laid down a carpet to protect my floor, and did a flawless job with the plumbing and venting. I wish I had take a picture to post here. They were also amazingly friendly, which means this company really gets it. I don't want someone in my house that acts like doing work for me is an annoyance. While the lead plumber did note that my furnace was exceptionally old, he did not pressure me at all, he simply mentioned it in passing. I was actually the one that initiated him taking down the model and configuration for a future quote. Bottom line is that they did exceptional work and have earned a chance to quote for future work, my 1957 house has plenty of opportunities for heating and plumbing work. I had no problem paying a little more for the quality, friendliness, and timeliness of this company's work. The quote I was given was the price I paid, and it was a good quality Bradford-White water heater. I had some very nice tools laying around the work area, and when they left they were all still accounted for. Yes, I kind of left them out as bait and a test as to the character of the people working for this company. I have full confidence in using them again. Like with an auto mechanic, it's a relief when you finally find someone you can trust to do a good job and be up front about cost. read more

I would give no star if I could. I had Keil performed AC services 3 times in about 15 years. The first time they sent a technician without knowing anything, who had to constantly call back to consult some senior persons, in the end, nothing was done except taking the wires off from inside of air handler and put it back. However, that actually solved the problem, I guess there were poor contacts, so the problem was resolved by accident. The next time, same problem happened again, I contacted Keil for service, this time they sent a person over, who tried to convince me that I need two new units for both floors. The guy said that new units are much more efficient which will end up save me electric bills. I asked the guy provide me a proposal which needs to include the estimated factor of how much improvement on efficient and how it translates to the electric energy savings so I can work on the ROI, they guy promised to send me over email, which I am still awaiting for that proposal since many year ago. This summer, we had the similar problem again, that the downstairs AC doesn't deliver enough cold air, Keil receptionist insists that I am the new customer because she couldn't locate my record. Regardless, I just need someone come to take a look. There was a guy called me next day, stated that it is $120 charge for them to come out to diagnostic and there will be additional change for the service. I think that sounds OK although it is rather expensive. The technician came on the day of appointment, on schedule, who took reading on the Freon pressure, then told me that he is the senior AC specialist, I must listen to him very carefully. they he said that my AC compressor and the air handler doesn't match, therefore it wasn't able to deliver enough cold air. I asked why it was able to and all the sudden it doesn't, I got no answer for that except telling me that the new model that they carry is the best brand, they only carry the top of line product, which has variable speed ... it doesn't really telling me where went wrong, what volume of air my current system is delivering vs. what is the expected volume for this size of the house, etc, As an engineer, it is like just a bunch of sales BS. they guy then took the air filter off the intake, cleaned it, told me that the problem was due to dirty air filter. then the bill comes, it was $210 which includes $120 for site visiting and $90 for service (clean the air filter). I hate my self by calling Keil for service over and over. the first time they fooled me it was shame on them, the 2nd and 3rd time were really shame on me. read more

I've had a Keil Hearting/AC maintenance contract for years until my last heater inspection when they told me the heat exchangers were cracked on my unit and needed replacing. Something told me to have it checked by another HVAC technician. The other tech. checked the unit and showed me the heat exchanger and NO CRACKS existed and the fins looked like new!!. Keil then tried to tell me that we needed a new heat exchanger and would be better off with a new system due to the cost of the repair. I had another incident with my AC unit. They tried selling me an outdated condenser unit to match my older AC coil. Again I got a 2nd opinion, and found it was smarter to upgrade the AC coil and condenser unit, instead of using an inefficient unit. Lesson learned - always get a 2nd opinion...Needless to say I cancelled my contract with Keil. read more

We used Keil to convert our home from oil to gas, and then again to put in Central Air. They have been nothing but professional at all times. Even when a part broke in less than a few months, they calmed this not so thrilled customer down. The crew always does a good job of explaining things. Just yesterday, when I was certain it was our boiler and not that our pipes were frozen, they came out and reassured me that it was not the boiler. Very wrapped up in contracts for service and maintenance. I used them because they serviced the previous home owner but found their work to be shady to say the least. They pushed for a new furnace purchase in winter ( which we did not do or need) and same routine in summer. They pushed to sell contracts and new units. I would not use them again or recommend. read more

My 87 yo mother called them to service her AC unit. The temperature was 90 degrees. They had been servicing her for years. They came out a week later. Temp still 90 and my mother is going to the library due to the heat. She was told the unit was not fixable, and offered her a new system for $8800. Follow up scheduled a week later. Due to her children, a second opinion was sought. That company came promptly. They charged the unit, and 1 month later the only complaint my mother has is the house is to cold. She was told her existing unit is old, but should continue functioning. She was told that due to the age, the condenser could be replaced in the future at a cost of $3000. This company is criminal leaving an elderly person in that heat when all along the unit was fine. EVIL. read more
