Mike and Joe went above and beyond to get our sink and bath working. They even got up on our roof to run a snake through an otherwise inaccessible pipe to finally clear it. I always use MarGo for the bigger jobs. They are not the cheapest, however, I trust their recommendations and work and know they stand by what they do. I always ask for Mike - he is always professional, easy to work with, and knows what he is doing. When my regular plumber was on vacation, I called this company as I had small leak on the floor by the toilet. They looked at it, $500 to replace the wax ring between the toilet and drain pipe. The wax ring is about a $5 part. What really annoyed me is they insisted I really needed a new toilet. The toilet was working fine, no cracks or leaks other than the wax ring. Was quoted $1100 for the new toilet. Their sales tactic was well since we're replacing the ring, you should replace the whole toilet. I would not recommend this company to anyone, insane prices and scam sales tactics. read more

I've called upon MarGo for multiple issues with the house (sink, garbage disposal, toilet, pipes). Each time they come in a timely manner, diagnose the problem and come with a quote doe us to sit on. We used to compare and actually went with someone else once before which ended up being a bad experience. We ended up having to go back to MarGo a bit ashamed we didn't just go with them initially! They aren't the cheapest but they get it done. Things just have a cost and quality work by plumbers who work hard and deserve a good wage doesn't come cheap. It just doesn't. I took off of work due to my blockage issue and called MarGo. I called at 9:30am and they finally arrived at 2:15pm. Both gentlemen walked my home to evaluate, went to their van, came back and recommended another company who specializes on sewer and drain backup. I was really disappointed MarGo plumbing didn't even attempt to snake the line. I made it clear that I waited all day for them and this is not acceptable. Hesitant to call the recommended company, Speedy, I did and they told me they are too busy and have plumbers on vacation so they couldn't service me either. Very disappointed with both companies and do NOT recommend them to anyone. Don't waste time because I did. I won't get that time back! FYI- I called another plumbing company at 2:45pm, they arrived at 4pm and fixed the issue at 5pm. They snaked the line 80' and all clear. They even cleaned up after themselves! Very convenient. It was easy to schedule an appointment for the work. It wasn't an emergency, so the appointment was 2 days later. They confirmed the appointment by phone the day before. Everyone on the phone was easy to understand, polite, pleasant, and efficient. Xavier, the plumber, was terrific. He arrived when he was supposed to. He was friendly, polite, and explained the work before he did it. He cleaned up after himself, wore booties inside my house, and wore a properly fitted face mask. A very pleasant experience. Why only 3 stars? Because they charged $533 for 10 minutes of plumbing work. They gave me the estimate before starting the work and I approved it, so that's on me. Perhaps I should have said thanks, but no thanks. But I don't know any other plumbers and I didn't feel like looking and rescheduling. Maybe I'm just an old geezer (I'm 67) but $533 seems like a lot of money for a very simple plumbing repair. I've been very fortunate, and writing a check like that doesn't break my bank account. But what do people less fortunate than me do? The fee was half a weeks pay for someone earning $50,000 a year. Totally wish I consulted Yelp and not google reviews before going with Margo, as I certainly agree with several of the low reviews on here. I had them come over to service my furnace and repair a small 8 inch leaking pipe at my home that was not urgent. Furnace- they refused to work on the furnace because it was very old and they did not want to take "the risk" of working on that project and not being able to fix the issue. Their recommendation was replacing the entire furnace for $9,300. Solution: I called another plumber same day, he replaced the zone valve/bled the radiators and the heat works in my house. 8 inch copper pipe replacement- $600+ dollars to fix. I agreed to this at the time (which in retrospect was insane, I get that) and the mechanic finished in 15 minutes. After I called my father to discuss the plumbing situation (I am a new homeowner and pretty clueless), he recommended I call them to inquire about the bill as to him it seemed very excessive. After speaking with the owner of the company he explained to me that they price their jobs by task and not hourly. I asked him if there was anything he could do about the price and he said no- he has a business to run with overhead and that I signed the invoice. All in all- I thought the customer service was good with a call back and scheduling but outside of that- I am severely disappointed with this company. Estimates were insane price.. $1400 to replace a toilet , 5X what others quoted and a similarly crazy price to fix a small faucet leak of $300 with an additional option to break the wall which would cost a lot more "just to make sure the leak was fixed" . I also had my shut offs installed by them years ago. The guy said I didn't have shut offs and they didn't install them and I would have to pay for those also. I get the feeling they prey on people who are in a bind and have no idea how much a job should cost! New toilet and shut off valve?? What? Honest plumber got a new bolt kit for $7.98 and fixed the problem. I guess Margo is dishonest. Sad. I, reluctantly, write this review. In fact, it's taken me a year since the event to write it. The air conditioner at my son's rental property was not working and I went out to meet the Mar Go repairman who diagnosed the problem as a faulty capacitor. The diagnosis costs $99 and the cost to replace the capacitor was $450 for a total of $549. They require you to sign approval of that amount before any work is begun. Two weeks later, I had the identical problem with my own central air conditioner and my air conditioner repairman charged $140 to replace the capacitor. I called Mar Go to see if they would make some amount of price adjustment and they, adamantly, refused. Not even an amount as small as $30. As they say, let the buyer beware. read more

I called MarGo Plumbing on Monday evening to clear up an issue that I was having with the bathtub. When the 2nd floor took a shower, black gunk came out of the 1st floor's tub faucet. After leaving a message with someone, Joe called me back and said that he could refer someone else in Bloomfield, NJ if I needed immediate help. I declined & told him that I don't mind if someone came out the following day. He said that someone would call by 9 am. The next morning, I missed a call at 8am while I was getting my coffee. After a return call to MarGo Plumbing, I received a call at 8.53am from Jesse who was already at the site. Jesse was very knowledgeable, courteous & pleasant to talk to. He explained everything that he did & made me aware of some preexisting conditions. There was a crack in the sink & he didn't want to get blamed for it since he was going to be using a heavy duty snaking machine. I'm not sure I would have noticed the crack but it was good that he pointed it out. The whole job took about 2 hours. Jesse used the snaking machine on the tub drain, the sink drain, & the sink drain from the opposite direction from the basement. He double checked his work looking for leaks or damaged pipes but there were no damages & cleaned up any mess that he made. Jesse explained before the job started the potential consequences of using the snaking machine & the cost of repairing any damages that may occur. When asked if he would rather hang out his own shingle & strike out on his own, Jesse said that he worked as an employee of MarGo Plumbing for 13 years & was happy working for them. He said that he liked the way that MarGo treated their employees & their customers. I've never met a contractor who was happy w/ his boss until I met Jesse. Everything was explained & when I had no questions, Jesse asked if I understood what he was explaining. Although he said he wasn't soliciting for additional business, he pointed out that my boiler was more than 10 years old so I asked him for a ballpark quote which he provided me with. The total cost minus a $25 coupon came to $230.05 w/ NJ Tax. The cost seems high but I think the whole process & service was well worth it. It's a bonus that MarGo accepts credit cards as a form of payment. If I need plumbing services again, I think I'll call Jesse D. at MarGo Plumbing. read more

I found Mar-Go based upon Yelp reviews and am so glad we called. We needed someone to come out asap and they did. I called and left a message and my called was returned as soon as they opened. I was given a timeframe and was also noticed prior to the tech coming out with the techs name and approx time of arrival. The tech was very professional, brought booties (a plus for us since we don't wear shoes in the house) and was thorough. He made sure I was clear on what he checked and the outcome. I had a clogged toilet an they came out and snaked it $481. Later after they left the toilet clogged again. I called them back and they snaked it again $374. As they left they said if it happens again I will need to replace my sewer line for 7500. It happened again, but this time I called a different plumber who arrived within an hour figured out and fixed the problem then for good measure camera'd my sewer from the house to the street which was clear and fine. Had a clogged kitchen sink. Figured since the reviews where so great I would give them a try. They are upfront about the $50 charge for an estimate that will be deducted if the customer chooses to use their service. However, I was first given a price of $550.00 to clear the blockage. When I acted very surprised, the tech said he could call the office to see if he can reduce to $350. Then the story changed. They don't charge by hour but by job...he will attempt to use a 25' snake to dislodge the clog for $350. If it doesn't work and he has to use a 50' snake then the charge will be $550. Needless to say he did not get the job and i wasted $50 on the estimate. Total scam. read more

They are top notch and I have recommended them to everyone I know. They truly do everything right and clean. They have the most trusted and kind people working for them. The secretary with whom I made an appointment was extremely nice. The plumber showed up and he was really nice and professional. However, I think I was overcharged. I was charged $300 for a broken pipe inside of the faucet. I got the good news/bad news line as some reviewer's here on yelp have mentioned. However, I am still giving four stores because I had already called several plumbers who did not show up at all. These guys showed up, we're extremely professional, and got the job done. Just had Joe and his team do our oil to natural gas conversion and change our water heater and I could not be happier with my decision to go with MarGo Plumbing. I chose MarGo based on Yelp reviews, so I feel obligated to offer this word of warning, which is specifically about MarGo's pricing. Their professionalism, courteousness and the quality of their work was all good. But, I was charged $500 to replace a washing machine valve that took 20 minutes.
