Our friends told us about this farm and we were honestly blown away. We were visiting North County…read moreand kept saying the whole time how much we wish we had a place exactly like this closer to us! The farm stand is absolutely adorable. I love the concept of making fresh food accessible to everyone and anyone. It's such a great mission. The highlight for us was the nature play area; my little one could have stayed there for hours. They've done a fantastic job creating an outdoor experience that's genuinely fun and engaging for kids of all ages. I also loved the "lead experiences" they host every hour. We joined the chicken feeding, which was a huge hit thanks to Daniel! We felt very safe throughout our visit, and the security team was incredibly helpful and a special thanks to Stephanie for that. We're already looking forward to our next trip back!

The farm has on Thursdays and Sundays a pay what you can farm stand. This has been a tremendous help to the community, especially when Covid hit. When purchasing items it is private so other people cannot see if you need to use the opportunity to purchase items at a discounted price or at full price. There are also many educational opportunities on the farm. Camps for kids, after school programs and other events are available throughout the year. The farm recently opened a coffee cart as well. Swing by and get fresh coffee along with your fruits and vegetables. There are also chickens on the farm and fresh eggs are sold every Sunday. If you like to eat the rainbow, or try new vegetables, this might be the spot for you as well, depending on when you arrive at the farm, you can see the vegetables coming in just after they have been picked to be sold.

Parking was a little bit challenging, but not too bad. Once inside, we found a tall table near the open doors to the outside so we could hear the band. The inside decor is cute and cozy. The menus were located on the table so we looked at the various options while we listened to the music. I decided on a red wine flight. You don't get to choose you just get one of each of the wines on the list. We went up to the counter to order and were attended to almost immediately. My flight of six 1 ounce pours was served, and I took it to the table. My other friends ordered a glass of wine each. The first of the two was attended to immediately as well, but the third was made to wait for a little bit longer for some reason, even though she was with us and next in line. The band was enjoyable and the sound was good. People were enjoying themselves and some dancing. I liked two of the wines I tried the rest were just ok. They don't serve food, but they did have a food truck in the back that looked good. We had already eaten, unfortunately, so we didn't try anything. It was nice evening and perfect for sitting outside. I would definitely come back again in the future.

We came to Carruth Cellars in Solana Beach for Sunset Trivia and left honestly shocked by how…read morepoorly the situation was handled from a customer service perspective. Our large group has attended Sunset Trivia for 6+ years across San Diego. We are exactly the kind of repeat customers businesses usually want to acquire during weekly events like trivia nights. This was our first time at Carruth Cellars. One member of our group arrived early and specifically asked about the menu. She was told the food menu was small and that most people bring in or order outside food. At no point did the brunette woman behind the counter mention restrictions on outside beverages or that purchases were expected in order to participate in trivia. Later, one friend's bottled soda needed a bottle opener, and when my husband politely asked the woman at the counter for help, she abruptly refused and informed him outside drinks were not allowed. Shortly after that, she came to our table and told us trivia was "for patrons only." The issue is not that the business wants customers to purchase something. That is completely understandable. The issue was the hostile, reactive way it was handled after we had already settled in -- especially when there were multiple opportunities earlier to simply communicate expectations politely and proactively. What felt especially shortsighted is that while many trivia attendees there may already be established wine club members, our group represented a completely different type of long-term customer opportunity. We are regular trivia goers who rotate between locations weekly, and businesses that create a welcoming atmosphere naturally earn repeat food and beverage purchases from us over time. Instead, rather than making new customers feel welcome and encouraging future spending organically, the interaction immediately made us feel scrutinized and unwelcome. Had the experience been warm and inviting instead of confrontational, there is a very good chance Carruth Cellars would have gained a recurring trivia group willing to spend money there week after week. One of our teammates later tried to respectfully explain that it was our first visit and that none of these expectations had been communicated upfront. The disgruntled employee responded that it was "implied" people should purchase something. Good hospitality does not rely on guests guessing unstated rules. We walked away feeling like the business was more focused on policing potential customers than creating an environment that actually encourages people to return and spend money voluntarily. The woman working on the evening of May 19th was not a positive representation of your winery, and if this is how guests are treated, it raises serious concerns about how new customers are being welcomed.

The Carlsbad Strawberry company offers a fantastic U-Pick experience during strawberry season. For…read more$18 per adult, I got admissions and a reasonably sized bucket for picking strawberries. It's easy to fill up the bucket with ripe strawberries quick. Although it doesn't seem like there's a lot of strawberries at first glance, there's a lot as I walked through the rows of strawberry plants - that was part of the fun! One thing I wasn't prepared for was the dirt and how muddy the strawberry rows were. I'm not sure if it was always that wet. Perhaps it was because it rained earlier in the day? My shoes got extremely dirty and there wasn't a convenient way to wash it off there. I recommend wearing rain boots. In addition to strawberries, there was a sunflower maze and a separate section for a simple sunflower field. For those who don't want to worry about food, there's vendors and food trucks on site. They also sell jam and fresh strawberries at the stand, which doesn't require an admissions ticket. Service wasn't anything special. The staff there were efficient and friendly. Overall, I enjoyed my time there and I recommend visitors trying out the U-Pick experience!
