My daughter has danced at Prodigy Dance CO. since the first year they opened. I still remember being greeted by Melissa and Alex like we were family. Fast forward 7 years. We are all PDC family. My daughters dancing started from one class then 2 and 3... 3 years ago she joined their competition team and now spends many hours at the studio. This is one of the best studios I have experienced as a former dancer and now as a mother to my own little dancers. Melissa, the studio owner, is incredibly invested in the lives of these kids. She is caring, and dedicated. She runs a very organized and competitively priced dance company and in a world where drama is rampant, she keeps these girls humble and working hard. I have personally witnessed girls begin the program with little to no skill, and within a year or two, compete at high levels and win with beautiful technique and skill. Prodigy is a truly special place. Our 3-year-old started ballet and tap there this fall, and also joined the cast of the Nutcracker. While I was nervous that a preschooler with limited dance experience could handle a production of the Nutcracker, I was blown away by the result. She was confident, calm, and seemed at home with dancers more than twice her age on stage. I tried to hang around backstage to make sure she was okay, and soon realized that I was not needed. The older girls and instructors adopted her into the PDC family, and I got to witness a totally different side of my daughter as a member of a dance company-again, at age 3. I truly hope she'll continue in dance as I could not be more grateful that she is there. When it comes to children's dance classes, there are teachers, and there are babysitters. At Prodigy, there are mostly just babysitters. The kids have fun and learn nothing. My daughter started at Prodigy at age 9 with plenty of gymnastics and Circus experience, so she's strong, flexible, and a strong performer, but she needed instruction in dance. She had a couple ballet teachers who did teach her a little, but there is high turn-over for the ballet teachers (one left mid-semester!). In tap, she missed the first two weeks, so despite taking three months of tap, she never learned a single combination (is that what the toe-heel-toe patterns are called?) She begged me to sign her up for a second semester - the teacher had told us she didn't teach her any tap because she missed the first 2 weeks. Surely she'd learn some next semester. I had to refuse. If you don't sign up for the end of year performance for each class ($80 each) your child is left on the side of the class sitting for the last two months. If you want to watch your child perform for each of those classes you paid for, you are only comped 2 tickets for one of the performances. It's $20/person per show to see the rest. The owner bragged to me that some students perform in 10 classes (so, $800) and the parents have to pay for all but 2 tickets to see each performance. The students have to spend a day taking pictures for each class performance.If you want pictures, they only sell digital, and it's $60 per class for 1 group shot and 1 individual. Above all this place is incredibly disorganized. Schedules are put out last minute, then changed. The website isn't updated, and no one in the office knows schedules, pricing, or policy. There are too many examples to list here. Just know you're in for a headache. read more

My daughter has been going to this studio since January 2014 and I am absolutely blown away by the progress she has made: from an inexperienced 5 year old to a graceful, insanely flexible, disciplined tiny dancer. The ladies here are gifted in their teaching and truly motivate and inspire their little prodigies. I love the location. My other kids and I can grab good eats right next door and watch the girls dance through the parent lounge. The owner is a young, knowledgeable dancer who has gathered some of the best to teach these kids. I have to say my favorite is Miss Vanessa! She's so spunky and they are all so dedicated. I researched a few local studios before picking Prodigy and I must say, I am quite pleased with our experience here and plan to invest in this place for the long run. read more

Just need to give a shout out to this studio and its owners. Melissa and Alex are amazing! We moved here last year and had many experiences at other studios. Thankfully Prodigy made the transition easy for my girls. The studio has kind staff who care about the girls as well as dancing. I've really seen our girls grow as dancers and as humans, as human as teenagers can be! PDC is a wonderful place! There's a competitive team but not crazy competitive. The moms are cool too! It's really great to feel comfortable with your kids hanging out at a studio with such good people. And...the price is right too. Classes, recital tickets and costumes are all super reasonable! This studio has gone downhill over the years and all of the positive reviews are outdated. This used to be a place where my child could grow as a dancer at her own pace, but at some point, the studio created competition teams, and now they are completely focused on only those students. If your child is not competition, or taking 8-10 hours per week in classes, expect to be ignored. My child saw absolutely no progress in the last 2 years she was there because no one cared to teach her. If she wasn't competing, they acted as if their efforts were wasted on her. I'm not saying that there are not some great instructors in the younger divisions, but as your child gets older, you have to choose to compete or switch studios. There is just not a supportive path for the recreational dancer. read more

I've been working there for almost three years now and have witnessed the studio grow and foster a safe haven for students to be themselves, develop long-lasting friendships and express their love for dance. Students of all skill levels enjoy being here since the studio accommodates the needs of both driven individuals looking to explore a career in dance and recreational students who just want to learn how to groove to a fun beat. They're welcoming and open to all types of people as evident in their "Mind and Movement" classes held last year to find a perfect harmony between mind and body and their ongoing "Every Body" classes held for students with special needs. I have never been surrounded by an atmosphere that radiates the amount of joy and acceptance that this studio does and I am eternally grateful to be a part of such an uplifting community. I have learned so much about marketing strategies and public relations management that I couldn't imagine a better place for me to learn and grow as a human being. I cannot speak highly enough of this place! The instructors and faculty are such integral pieces in attracting such passionate individuals and I have been blessed to witness how our instructors have stimulated the dancers' growth both physically and mentally. Miss Mary, Miss Vanessa, Miss Melissa and Mr. Christian are but a few instructors whom I have had the pleasure of being acquainted with as I would go so far as to call some of them my personal mentors. They are youths at heart (for privacy purposes their ages shall be omitted from this review) and genuinely care about their students and the atmosphere of their workplace. I even recall an instance where students were required to do ten pushups every time they mentioned that "they can't" because Prodigy refused to accept words or behaviors that would prevent a student's progress. Negative perspectives are also discouraged as I even find myself refraining from using the word "hate" to describe daily ordeals due to the repetitive positive mindsets ingrained at work. Even their families are involved in the operation with the owner's husband Mr. Matt personally greeting old and new students at the front office and getting to know each of the families that are a part of the Prodigy family. We've recently relocated from another country so it was important for my 7yr old and 5yr to LOVE their dance studio. The whole experience of enrolling them and having them take the classes has been excellent. They love going to dance and can't wait for the next class, my little one wants me to sign her up for more! Amazing and so much fun! Both my daughters ages 11 and 13 have taken classes at Prodigy and loved them! Now we are signing up for 3 more and even my 6 year old son is going to take hiphop. They did the most entertaining show at Del Norte high school that showed off everything that all the classes were doing for the year. Melissa is the sweetest person and the kids love her and all the instructors. These classes are so great at confidence building and exercise. We've since moved to another part of town, but keep going back to Prodigy because of the warm, supportive environment.
