Wow! Thank you Melissa and dance families for the opportunity to capture memories today through photos. I want to give a shout out to your dancers, their families and your staff family. Being a former dance mom and working part time at my kids dance studio, I feel like I've seen and heard both sides of the dance world. I have seen the energy and drama that can happen with recitals and competitions for the families and the owners of the dance studio. I want you to know that the dancers had amazing attitudes, respectful actions and caring hearts. Their parents should be proud. Hats off to the girls who (without being asked) grabbed trash, vacuums and cleaned up after themselves and others at the end of the evening. Keep up the great work PDC staff you obviously are fostering way more than dance. So much love and heart! Happy Recital. read more

I have never felt compelled to write a negative review, but this place deserves it. I went for a free trial class for my young daughter, and could not be more disappointed. The teachers were not welcoming or engaging, were not energetic, and repeatedly called my daughter the wrong name. A significant portion of the class they spent sitting around and waiting, and not actually dancing. The teachers were not adaptable for young children. One child was crying. Another child the parent pulled them out early. My daughter was visibly disappointed and had been looking forward to this. I am devastated this was her first dance experience. If you are looking for a positive environment where your child can joyfully dance, steer clear. read more

Glorified babysitting facility. A lot of hidden fees and miscommunication. My daughter is only 3 and I was trying to get a feel of how she's going to like it for a month or two, but they are already charging me non refundable recital fees 9 months in advance. When I said most likely she'll not be attending in 9 months because this is not for us, they said it will be left as a credit on her account. Nice customer service skills, will not be returning read more

I'm a dance dad and i don't do reviews. But my daughter just finished another great season at this studio and upon reflection, I felt this studio deserved a shout-out. My kid loves this place. She's learned to be a focused and disciplined person thanks to the staff and owner, who are 100% invested in each and every one of these kids. I am happy. My daughter is happy. My wife is happy. #winning. read more

My daughter has danced at Prodigy Dance CO. since the first year they opened. I still remember being greeted by Melissa and Alex like we were family. Fast forward 7 years. We are all PDC family. My daughters dancing started from one class then 2 and 3... 3 years ago she joined their competition team and now spends many hours at the studio. The best part is I know 5 days a week she is with amazing friends, mentors, teachers and dance moms she loves. I cannot imagine another place for her to call her second home. read more

This is one of the best studios I have experienced as a former dancer and now as a mother to my own little dancers. Melissa, the studio owner, is incredibly invested in the lives of these kids. She is caring, and dedicated. She runs a very organized and competitively priced dance company and in a world where drama is rampant, she keeps these girls humble and working hard. I have personally witnessed girls begin the program with little to no skill, and within a year or two, compete at high levels and win with beautiful technique and skill. Well worth the investment and the girls absolutely LOVE their time spent learning and growing here. Keep up the great work Prodigy Dance Co.! We are so thankful to have found you! read more

We love PDC! My daughter has been here for 3 years now and our love for the studio continues to grow! What we love about this studio is how positive the teachers and students are to each other. The owner, Melissa, sets the foundation for this positive atmosphere and wants the dancers to enjoy dance! We also love Mary, Zakiya and Vanessa (all amazing teachers)! My daughter started out taking a couple of classes a week and each year she has added more classes to her schedule because she has grown to love dance and PDC so much! My daughter also joined a studio team this year and it has been a wonderful experience! Her skill level is increasing along with her confidence! We are so happy we found PDC! read more

Prodigy is a truly special place. Our 3-year-old started ballet and tap there this fall, and also joined the cast of the Nutcracker. While I was nervous that a preschooler with limited dance experience could handle a production of the Nutcracker, I was blown away by the result. She was confident, calm, and seemed at home with dancers more than twice her age on stage. I tried to hang around backstage to make sure she was okay, and soon realized that I was not needed. The older girls and instructors adopted her into the PDC family, and I got to witness a totally different side of my daughter as a member of a dance company-again, at age 3. I truly hope she'll continue in dance as I could not be more grateful that she is there. Special thanks to Ms. Lorin, Ms. Wadeaa, and Ms. Melissa, and Ms. Madeline for your time and dedication to our daughter. read more

My daughter danced here for about 1 year. We liked this studios ambiance. Owner and staff very friendly. My daughter especially enjoyed the contemporary classes. Daughter only did technique at this studio so my review is for technique experience. read more

We love PDC. When I went looking for a studio over 5 years ago, I wanted to find a family for my daughter to be part of. Fast forward to now she has grown and learned so much more than just dance. She is a confident person and loves the friends/family she has made. We look forward to many more years with PDC. Thank you to all the amazing teachers, moms and Ms. Melissa! read more

My daughter has been going to this studio since January 2014 and I am absolutely blown away by the progress she has made: from an inexperienced 5 year old to a graceful, insanely flexible, disciplined tiny dancer. The ladies here are gifted in their teaching and truly motivate and inspire their little prodigies. I love the location. My other kids and I can grab good eats right next door and watch the girls dance through the parent lounge. The owner is a young, knowledgeable dancer who has gathered some of the best to teach these kids. I have to say my favorite is Miss Vanessa! She's so spunky and they are all so dedicated. I researched a few local studios before picking Prodigy and I must say, I am quite pleased with our experience here and plan to invest in this place for the long run. read more

Prodigy Dance Co - Performing Arts Near Me - San Diego, California

See all

When it comes to children's dance classes, there are teachers, and there are babysitters. At Prodigy, there are mostly just babysitters. The kids have fun and learn nothing. My daughter started at Prodigy at age 9 with plenty of gymnastics and Circus experience, so she's strong, flexible, and a strong performer, but she needed instruction in dance. She had a couple ballet teachers who did teach her a little, but there is high turn-over for the ballet teachers (one left mid-semester!). In tap, she missed the first two weeks, so despite taking three months of tap, she never learned a single combination (is that what the toe-heel-toe patterns are called?) She begged me to sign her up for a second semester - the teacher had told us she didn't teach her any tap because she missed the first 2 weeks. Surely she'd learn some next semester. I had to refuse. If you don't sign up for the end of year performance for each class ($80 each) your child is left on the side of the class sitting for the last two months. If you want to watch your child perform for each of those classes you paid for, you are only comped 2 tickets for one of the performances. It's $20/person per show to see the rest. The owner bragged to me that some students perform in 10 classes (so, $800) and the parents have to pay for all but 2 tickets to see each performance. The students have to spend a day taking pictures for each class performance. If you want pictures, they only sell digital, and it's $60 per class for 1 group shot and 1 individual. Above all this place is incredibly disorganized. Schedules are put out last minute, then changed. The website isn't updated, and no one in the office knows schedules, pricing, or policy. There are too many examples to list here. Just know you're in for a headache. read more

We were looking for a new dance school for our 5 year old girl and came across Prodigy on Yelp. After a quick phone call, Melissa explained the pricing and schedule and was super friendly. The dance school is clean and modern and the teachers are energetic and enthusiastic! Great school for little girls to start ballet! read more

Just need to give a shout out to this studio and its owners. Melissa and Alex are amazing! We moved here last year and had many experiences at other studios. Thankfully Prodigy made the transition easy for my girls. The studio has kind staff who care about the girls as well as dancing. I've really seen our girls grow as dancers and as humans, as human as teenagers can be! PDC is a wonderful place! There's a competitive team but not crazy competitive. The moms are cool too! It's really great to feel comfortable with your kids hanging out at a studio with such good people. And...the price is right too. Classes, recital tickets and costumes are all super reasonable! We are happy to call Prodigy our home! read more

This studio has gone downhill over the years and all of the positive reviews are outdated. This used to be a place where my child could grow as a dancer at her own pace, but at some point, the studio created competition teams, and now they are completely focused on only those students. If your child is not competition, or taking 8-10 hours per week in classes, expect to be ignored. My child saw absolutely no progress in the last 2 years she was there because no one cared to teach her. If she wasn't competing, they acted as if their efforts were wasted on her. I'm not saying that there are not some great instructors in the younger divisions, but as your child gets older, you have to choose to compete or switch studios. There is just not a supportive path for the recreational dancer. read more

Purple walls and hardwood floors bustling with chattering and excited individuals in an open space overlooking a hazy orange sky submerging into a blue expanse of infinite possibilities brushing the tops of iconic Southern California palm trees. Both dancers and parents alike can find their fit at this studio! It is such an absolutely nurturing environment! I've been working there for almost three years now and have witnessed the studio grow and foster a safe haven for students to be themselves, develop long-lasting friendships and express their love for dance. Students of all skill levels enjoy being here since the studio accommodates the needs of both driven individuals looking to explore a career in dance and recreational students who just want to learn how to groove to a fun beat. They're welcoming and open to all types of people as evident in their "Mind and Movement" classes held last year to find a perfect harmony between mind and body and their ongoing "Every Body" classes held for students with special needs. I have never been surrounded by an atmosphere that radiates the amount of joy and acceptance that this studio does and I am eternally grateful to be a part of such an uplifting community. I have learned so much about marketing strategies and public relations management that I couldn't imagine a better place for me to learn and grow as a human being. I cannot speak highly enough of this place! The instructors and faculty are such integral pieces in attracting such passionate individuals and I have been blessed to witness how our instructors have stimulated the dancers' growth both physically and mentally. Miss Mary, Miss Vanessa, Miss Melissa and Mr. Christian are but a few instructors whom I have had the pleasure of being acquainted with as I would go so far as to call some of them my personal mentors. They are youths at heart (for privacy purposes their ages shall be omitted from this review) and genuinely care about their students and the atmosphere of their workplace. I even recall an instance where students were required to do ten pushups every time they mentioned that "they can't" because Prodigy refused to accept words or behaviors that would prevent a student's progress. Negative perspectives are also discouraged as I even find myself refraining from using the word "hate" to describe daily ordeals due to the repetitive positive mindsets ingrained at work. Even their families are involved in the operation with the owner's husband Mr. Matt personally greeting old and new students at the front office and getting to know each of the families that are a part of the Prodigy family. Please stop by when you get the chance and give yourself the opportunity to be a part of a community that "dances to inspires." It is absolutely worth it. read more

We've recently relocated from another country so it was important for my 7yr old and 5yr to LOVE their dance studio. The whole experience of enrolling them and having them take the classes has been excellent. They love going to dance and can't wait for the next class, my little one wants me to sign her up for more! I'm very grateful I found a studio that I feel comfortable with. I also love that the owner has her family around to help, it makes it feel very welcoming. Continue the good work and I look forward to growing with your studio. read more

HIGHLY Recommended! I've been working with Prodigy Dance since the beginning and there is no better positive place to learn and have fun! Melissa and her teachers are so sweet, talented, and they genuinely care about each student. read more

I am so impressed with Vanessa Byrne. Not only is she an amazing teacher and role model to her students but she is so devoted to Prodigy and devoted to her art. I've known her for many years and it is so incredible to see how much she has put into this company. The students and her teachers and partners are very lucky to have such an amazing young woman to look up to, learn from, and just share in her love of dance. read more

Prodigy is like a second home to us! My daughter has been dancing at the studio for 6 years, since she was three years old. Melissa, the owner, is compassionate, accommodating, and has created a wonderful and fun community for her dancers. I've watch my daughter grow tremendously in skill and character. Our experience has been nothing but delightful and I highly recommend Prodigy Dance! read more

Amazing and so much fun! Both my daughters ages 11 and 13 have taken classes at Prodigy and loved them! Now we are signing up for 3 more and even my 6 year old son is going to take hiphop. They did the most entertaining show at Del Norte high school that showed off everything that all the classes were doing for the year. Melissa is the sweetest person and the kids love her and all the instructors. These classes are so great at confidence building and exercise. I highly recommend signing your child, tween or teen up for classes here! read more

The teachers at Prodigy are first class. They take pride in every dancer at the studio and just want each one of them to grow and flourish. Prodigy is truly like no other studio in the area; you are a person and dancer, not a number or paycheck. Please come and meet everyone at Prodigy. You'll be so glad you did! read more

Update: We've continued going here for 9 months now and we love it. The attitude is very positive for young dancers and Miss Melissa (owner and teacher) is open and warm and so friendly and patient. They are learning to dance in such a positive and no-pressure atmosphere. Zumba (for adults) here is still amazing! read more

We love Prodigy Dance Company! Both of my daughters dance here (4 years old & 8 years old) and they both enjoy it tremendously. At Prodigy Dance, it truly is a family affair. Melissa and her husband and her mom are all very, very welcoming, warm and create a sense of fun and comfort for the dancers, siblings and parents. We would HIGHLY recommend this dance studio. If you are looking for a place for your son or daughter to learn from caring, awesome instructors, you've found it! Give it a try :) read more

My daughter has been dancing at Prodigy almost since they first opened. She was 3 years old and now she's 7. We've since moved to another part of town, but keep going back to Prodigy because of the warm, supportive environment. It doesn't matter if your child just wants to dance once a week or wants to be on the competition team -- everyone is valued and has fun. As a business, the studio is very well organized, from sign up to recitals. My daughter has really progressed over the years and it's been so fun to watch. We love being part of the Prodigy family! read more

My girls have found a home at Prodigy. Melissa and Vanessa have created a studio where every dancer can grow and learn. All of the teachers are professional and committed. The studio and the dancers have taken off in a few short years. Prodigy is the perfect mixture of hard work, camaraderie, and just plain fun!! I cannot imagine a better place to send my girls or better people to help develop them as dancers and as people! Come over to Prodigy and see what I am talking about. read more
