What can we say other than we love SoCal Dance! Our daughter has been searching for a dance studio ever since her studio closed. It can be challenging to find a dance studio where there's no to minimal favoritism and where it's run professionally. We finally found the perfect studio for our daughter and she is attending her 2nd year now. SoCal is run by a studio owner who really cares about the team culture of the students. She makes the dancers feel like one big family. Pros- 1- Option for Convention and Competition Team. 2- Large new facility. 3- Organized and professional. 4- A wide range of dance classes such as: ballet, pointe, hip hop, jazz, tap, and more. 5- Fair pricing. 6- The studio owner is very involved and is a great support to the dancers. My daughter was enrolled in the combo ballet/tap (3year old class) for about a month but she would come to class each time and sits in the corner, watch the other kids dance. So of course I decided it was a waste of $$ and took her out. The dance teacher Mrs Jen also agreed to take her out and re-enroll in a few months time; this way it breaks that routine of coming to class and just watching. I then emailed/called Lynn (studio owner) to ask about her thoughts of the situation and what the process would be if we could pause her account for now (so I can avoid re-enrolling her and paying another registration fee). No reply and nothing even after repeated emails. I ended up cancelling the account. Fast forward 6 months later, my daughter started showing more interest in dance so I decided to email SoCalDance again about enrollment but never received a response. This place is nearby/convenient for us (5min drive) but their poor customer service, lack of concern for the kids, inflexibility and overall poor management are the reasons I'm writing this review. I have 3 girls who have danced for years. When our old studio closed down, we explored other studios and So Cal Dance. We were able to try classes before signing up. The other students at So Cal were friendly and welcomed my children. The owner is knowledgeable and the teachers are qualified and professional. My girls have improved greatly in their technique, and made lifelong friends here. We feel like not only did we join a great dance studio, we joined a dance family who cares and cheers for us. We are very can I happy with our experience here in this dance school. It was very important to me that this could be a school my child would be happy in full many years. After attending my third recital of this school I would recommend making sure what your child will be getting for your money. Their recitals seem to be more about supporting the school and their chosen ones who attend. Each child pays one fee to be in it. Part of the cost is for costumes (about $65 I think). The problem is, the money gets pooled. This means a child that is in one performance (costume consists of a tee shirt and shorts) pays the same as someone that is in six or more performances requiring six different costumes that cost a lot more. read more

My 2 girls have been taking classes at So Cal for about 4 years and it has been one of the best experiences. They have great friends there. Yikes! I brought my daughter here to try a tap class and was pretty shocked to see the teacher teaching the tap class in Uggs! How do you teach a tap class in Uggs?!? I asked one of the "dance moms" there if this was the tap teacher and they told me that she is the owner of the studio!!! When I dropped my kids off on the first day I was greeted and made to feel so comfortable, which for a dad at a dance studio, is rare. We've been coming to the dance studio for 2+ years - starting at age 4. Each season, we've added another dance style, at the request of my dancer. With so many different styles of dance, we've had nearly all the teachers and have loved all of them. Their interaction style, the content of the classes, the culminating recitals, all have been perfect for learning to dance and having fun. At 6 years of age, I'm over-ruling the request for competition just yet, but we see competition team bring home awards galore from every event so I'm sure it's in our future too. There aren't enough words to adequately describe how AMAZING this studio is! Lynne Ingstad, the owner and studio director of So Cal, is a true example of what every studio owner should strive to be. We just finished our first year at So Cal and finally feel as though we have found our 'dance family'. I drive OVER 40 minutes each way to attend So Cal and it's worth every single second spent driving! I have a boy and a girl who dance and they are every bit in love with the studio as I am. As a parent I hated the drama, cliques, and hostility that is present at so many studios these days. We left our old studio for that very reason. So Cal parents (and students) have been welcoming from the very start. Everyone is greeted with open arms and it's refreshing to be in a place where 100% of the families accept you and go out of their way to help and welcome you in. The teachers are some of the best in California and I am so fortunate that my kids get to train with them! Lynne is an amazing studio owner and director. After being a part of a studio for 6 months, I can honestly say that this studio as a whole is a treasure. From the owner/director, to the staff and teachers, families and students, you will not find a more welcoming and supportive place to be. Yes, we bring our kids from Oceanside to Poway just to continue being part of this little gem. We came in midseason due to some unfortunate circumstances that warranted us to leave our old studio of 6 years. Everyone welcomed my daughters and family with open arms. In fact, it was the love and support of this studio that gave my daughters the passion to dance again. So glad this studio took us in. Teachers have all been helpful and welcoming. I would highly recommend them to all my friends (and I have). Your children will grow both in dance and as a person here. Come take a class or two or three, you won't be disappointed.
