I'm not a dance mom (yet). Just an older gal dancing in her socks at this conveniently located studio. Our class is a wonderful range of ages and women. I love that. We may giggle as we fumble the steps and lose our balance... but the class offers exactly what it needs to offer. Fun and movement. Me and about 14 others signed up via the Poway Adult School... but the studio offers drop in classes directly as well. I really hope to try them - they just don't jive with my mommy and work schedule like the Thursday am class has. But I'm hopeful they add more classes or I can somehow make it work. This class has been such a reawakening. When you dance as a child and young adult... and quit... you don't have many outlets for enjoying it after the classes and recitals stop. You don't round up the friends like you do for a game of golf or basketball. Enter... the adult dance class. Boom. Toby, our teacher, is wonderful. He is easy-going and clearly talented. I liked the neat little background he gave us on ballet too. The music is a fun mix of contemporary songs disguised in ballet music. Fun. So much better than I remember as a kid. While I do have some lingering memories of dance... my joints and muscles are in a complete state of disrepair. Frankly, it makes me extra happy to be in the beginner's class. At times it is a bit of a whirlwind, but with continued repetition it sinks in. "Osmosis" as Toby says. So I try not to worry about the terms. I just enjoy each class, the break in my chaotic day... and dance (in between the hip cramps and forgotten steps).

My goal was not only to help her develop motor skills, but also to give her a chance to socialize and for me to meet other moms, as we are new to the area. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, the experience felt very unwelcoming. We showed up to class and no one greeted us. I introduced myself to the instructor and the group and was met with blank stares. I even asked if I could enter the gated area to participate at the start of class, and again received no response. Trying to break the ice, I made a light comment about noticing everyone had their shoes off and asked where I should place my belongings. The instructor, Clarissa, responded coldly with "no shoes allowed," without any further guidance or welcome. Once we got settled, the class itself actually had a nice structure. I appreciated the variety of activities and how it helps introduce young children to a ballet studio environment. Even though my daughter was a bit too young for some parts, I could see the potential value of the program. However, the lack of warmth and basic courtesy completely overshadowed that. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. At the end of class, I left right away because I didn't feel welcomed enough to stay and socialize with the other moms. As I was gathering my things, Clarissa approached me only to hand me a "first class" promotional flyer without any conversation, feedback, or acknowledgment. I had really hoped this would be a place where both my daughter and I could feel comfortable, build connections, and return regularly. Instead, I left feeling disappointed and unwelcome. Yesterday it was so hot that I couldn't finish the class. Before going in, I asked the person at the front desk if the A/C in that room was working, and she said yes. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The main gym area was a comfortable temperature, but the yoga room was extremely hot. I hope this issue can be fixed soon. I enjoy the classes and would like to continue attending them in a comfortable and safe environment. Thank you.

I have been training with Austin C. at LA Fitness Poway for almost a year, and my husband has also…read moretrained with him during that time. The progress I've made has been remarkable, and I can honestly say that joining the personal training program has been one of the best decisions I've made for my health. When I started, I was dealing with weak muscles, excess weight, knee discomfort, and very little confidence in the gym. I was hesitant to try many exercises and often worried about making my knees worse. Austin consistently adapted workouts based on how my body responded, gradually building strength while respecting my limitations. As I improved, he appropriately increased the challenge and introduced more advanced exercises, helping me gain confidence rather than just follow instructions. The progress I've made has exceeded my expectations. I've become significantly stronger, reduced body fat and inches, improved my balance and functional strength, and regained confidence in my ability to exercise safely despite my knee issues. I can now perform exercises I never imagined I'd be able to do. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment as a trainer is that he gave me the knowledge and confidence to train independently. That, to me, is the mark of an excellent trainer. Austin strikes a good balance between encouraging you and pushing you beyond what you think you're capable of, while still paying attention to form and how your body is responding. He celebrates progress, explains the purpose behind exercises, and genuinely wants his clients to succeed. My husband has also had an excellent experience training with him, and we've both benefited from his coaching. We highly recommend Austin to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, dedicated, and motivating trainer. We wish him continued success in his career.
