(Only criticism.=I am "not happy"to see that they have gone to "Phyreesia" a new appointment system requiring complicated phone or online form to checkin for appointments. Having previously endured another physicians office using this system I gave up trying to wade through the new form and arrived early, where the staff assisted me. Hopefully this will become easier for me in time.) I first went to McKnights because I thought I had a droopy eyelid affecting my vision. Testing showed that this was not a problem. I discovered instead that, like my grandmother, I was developing glaucoma and cataracts. I remembered helping my grandmother for years with her nightly eyedrops and my brother lost use of one eye to macular degeneration so I was thankful I had not put off eye care. I had also developed type2 diabetes so eye care is also important with that. I began using prescribed eye drops and had regular 6 month exams to monitor the pressure in my eyes. Eventually the cataracts advanced enough that Dr. Brett suggested surgery. This was done at a different nearby office by another of the McKnight family. It was also mentioned that it might also be possible to do something surgically to help with the glaucoma. The surgeries went very well. I was able to go from wearing my trifocals to only wearing reading glasses. Stents were placed in each eye that help reduce the build up of pressure caused by my type of glaucoma. I still had to use the eye drops for a few months but follow up showed the stents were working and I was able to stop using the nightly eyedrops. I now have 6 month checkups and have recommended their office to friends. The waiting room is large and very comfortable with a pod coffee machine. The wait is sometimes too short for that coffee but no problem having one on the way out. If you happen to have an appointment around the holidays you will be impressed with how creative they can be with decorating.

I know when I go in there, I will have help deciding on frames and will have friendly and knowledgeable staff. Until a couple of weeks ago, that is. I visit maybe 2-3 times a year for an adjustment or to have the nosepads replaced. I have NEVER been charged before for either service. I had gone in recently for advice about keeping them clean (there is very little space to get in and around these pads to clean. The man told me to use a soft toothbrush and soapy water. I followed his advice and the result was, I scratched my lenses. So I went back in to have the dirty pads replaced, and was told it would be a charge of about $7 to do that. I said, I have never had to pay for that before. And the girl said pretty flippantly," well, it's always been that way". She started to write down my contact info. I asked for my glasses back and told her, "the customer service here has always been exemplary, but I will go elsewhere now. And I am about ready for new glasses, but I won't be coming here." This seems minor, I know. But it was her attitude that got me, along with her assumption that I didn't know any better. In this economic time, businesses are struggling to stay open. That is not the time to push away established customers. Dr. Samuels, Nancy, and Gary had been the staff for nearly 30 years - and now, I do not see anyone in there I recognize. Maybe it's changed hands, perhaps some of them have retired, but the consistent service I come back for is no longer provided. Maybe this is progress. But there are numerous other eyeglass establishments within a short distance. It is time to find one who still puts customer service first.

I scheduled the appointment and filled out all of the paperwork required. The day of the appointment, I show up early. Staff was friendly but, I didn't have an appointment. Strangely enough they had all of my paperwork printed out and was able to find it easily but, said I was not in the system. In fairness they did offer to get me in later the same day but, I had already taken off work for the appointment time that I had. I can't take more time off of work. This has put me out. I declined the appointment for later, because if a medical office can't keep their records straight, I have no interest in being a patient there. I've experienced medical offices before that don't manage their paperwork well and it was a nightmare. NO THANKS She also mentioned that they had called and left a voicemail. I do not have any voicemails from them.

The doctors are excellent - even when my daughter had an emergency eye issue when she was seven - and just for regular eye exams. They were patient with my son who couldn't get contacts in. I was in twice for me and my daughter in the past month and both times it was an excellent experience.
