Kays Nails, I am terribly upset with the customer service I received recently after I have been most likely, one of your better customers for several years and a sincere and maybe too much of a generous tipper (as much as $20.00 tips, more than I should give and more than anyone would give). I realize the gratuities and the type of dedicated customer I have been means nothing to you as a family owned business. I came back in to the salon for one acrylic nail that had come off recently and was hoping to get it repaired for the Holidays. Excuse me for not calling but.... Really, did I deserve the 3rd degree mental burn??? And to make matters worse, you just would not stop! What was wrong with you??? You just kept going and going, balling me out about all sorts of things including that I am messing up your schedule and how I did not make an appointment. All this in front of your customers and over one nail with no appointment. The right thing to do was to have been courtious as you should ALWAYS be to your customers whether they are young or old, new, existing, poor or able to acquire some pampering or more and everything and everyone in between! ALL customers should be treated with respect and feel welcomed!! You have to realize by now, we are understanding and civilized people. Speaking to me the way you did and in front of your customers, what must have they all been thinking witnessing this mistreatment? I am surprised they did not walk out right then or soon after... or maybe they were in shock. I am an 83 year old dignified woman who is a long time proud resident of Point Loma and a long time business woman still in business. In all the years that I have patronized so many businesses in the area, I have NEVER been treated and spoken to so poorly and made to feel so shamed. In this case, all because an appointment was not made. What is wrong with you and your business ethics? As you know, my granddaughter wanted to get her nails done soon after and you said you do not want to do my grand daughter's nails because they may be sensitive? Or, were you speaking of my grand daughter possibly being sensitive? It was not quite clear to me what you meant by not wanting to do my grand daughter's nails. To us it must mean you are NOT confident in your workmanship. My grand daughter just earned a scholarship at 13 years of age (Yes, she is 13) to pay for her education at a private school and will be studying to become a brain surgeon. This is her wish to become one day. By you stating you do not want to do my grand daughter's nails has NOTHING to do with my grand daughter, her age, maturity, or her nails. She also is not a first timer getting her nails done. I would certainly like you to think about this one. I am one to make referrals when I see a good business as I know what it takes to succeed and I enjoy seeing others succeed. Unfortunately, since there was no remorse or regrets made, I will not be sending my referrals nor will we be coming back anytime soon. I should not have to be the one to tell you this as you should know this by now, making a business grow takes a L-O-N-G time. You have to get customers to COME TO YOU and TRUST you but.... IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG to lose customers...one by one.... I hope your business ethics shapes up. read more

One of the worst salons I've been to! I was barely greeted, sat down with a nail tech in a filthy chair for a gel manicure. They have very few colors and the only way to know what color it is, is from the top of the bottle?! There was no massage, no lotion used and I had to ask her to clean under my nails before painting them! ..fine. $25 is cheap, I didn't expect much. But I DEFINITELY expected them to last at least 24 hours! I got home and there are huge air bubbles under each nail and they already started peeling. See the pictures... I'm getting my money back tomorrow morning and going somewhere else. Oh and make sure to bring cash, they don't take cards?!?! read more

Did not have a good experience my first time here. The experience wasn't that bad until the end. Two women came in for pedicures as the manicurist was putting on my polish. Immediately after painting my nails, she put my sandals on and opened the side for me to exit the chair. Unfortunately, being rushed out of there like I was an illegal passing the INS wasn't the worst part. When I got to my car I noticed my polish was smudged on BOTH big toes. When I went in there to tell them I waited over 15 minutes to have them fixed. The woman picked a different pink that I didn't use and said "oh close enough" like no, I wanted the color I originally chose WHICH IS WHY I CHOSE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. Perhaps I went on a day they were overwhelmed, but not sure if I will be going back. read more

I love this place! My review is long overdue. I've been going here for pedicures for quite some time. I'm super picky and usually have to insert my comments throughout (lol) but not with Kelly. She does an excellent job, super clean pedicure and her paint job also is perfect. I come out looking like I had the best pedicure ever and it lasts well. I only found Kay's salon just before the second Stay-at-Home order in December. I had a lovely, relaxing pedicure and got the best gel manicure ever! It's been 2 weeks now and it's still going strong. But I know the manicure WILL need to be done again in the next week or so and it looks like I'll be out of luck. The salon shutdown will be in effect at least til Dec. 28. I feel bad for the salon and the nail techs. They have made every effort to comply with health and safety measures. Searched for nearby nail shop to my work that had good reviews. Found Kay's nail shop 5 minutes away. Easy parking. Right next to stumps family marketplace. Shop is clean and fresh looking, cute decor. I walked in for pedicure, got helped right away. Good assortment of colors to choose from for nail polish. Price is good- 19$! Cash Only. My lady was AMAZING! Cleaned up my toes perfectly, took her time to make sure they were all shaped good and painted perfectly. She gave nice massage and scrubbed my feet very well. Reasonably priced, and they did a good job. My manicurist did not do any lotion or massage, though -- they seemed very busy with a 'regular' who was apparently their top priority. The prices aren't good enough for them to treat non-regulars as second class citizens, and when I pay upwards of $30 with tip for a gel manicure, I don't think some lotion and a quick hand massage are insane things to think should be included. My first time to this nail salon. It is cash only. Price is reasonable. I am not a fan of the technician who did my Shellac manicure. I had to ask for oil because my hands were so dry. They said they do Gel sets so I come there a day before my trip back home and just as I've been let down at other establishments, they put Acrylic on. As soon as I smelled the stench I said something but said, go ahead I don't have time or an appointment anywhere else now. The women were nice but clearly need to be educated a little better, and not just on Gel sets but on nail care as well. My nails look like I got them done about 2 weeks ago. I found my new go to nail place! Not only is this place the most reasonably priced salon EVER but they are all so nice and spend so much time on your mani/pedis!! Been here a couple times for shellac and the last time I did my French, for some reason they peeled off in one day and I went back and Kay re did them for free no questions asked in like 20 minutes it was so nice!! And she did a phenomenal job. I was going to my old nail place for about 3 years and lately they spent 5-10 min on my pedicures and I received weak massages but this places spent over 30 minutes on my feet it was amaaaazing!!
