What a great place to go to good facilities and amenities really nice customer service great place…read moreto rent a kayak but sadly the parking is very sketchy. We noticed several tweakers so we wound up going to a whole different place because we just didn't feel safe leaving our car this day tweakers going back-and-forth on bikes from each parking location. It's very sad this detoured us from using this marina that we so enjoy on this day.more security is needed

Spent a weekend at Dock Street Marina, checking out Tacoma & hanging out on the boat. The location…read more allows easy access to quite a bit: the glass museum, UW Tacoma campus, the free link train to most of downtown and there is a Starbucks within close range too. The marina has a great shower/restroom facility. Very clean and updated. Laundry is also available. Upon check-in, we were given a welcome packet with info on the city, sightseeing brochures, coupons, etc. Docks were clean, I saw them being swept/washed in the morning. We had a great view of the bridge at night, and with the water so calm, you could see the reflection mirrored in the water. Food options nearby: 1) 7 Seas Brewery with restaurant 3uilt inside 2) Forum (link train to theatre district) 3) The Swiss - bar/pub food Heads up: you're near the train tracks, so you'll hear trains going by or as hubs likes to say "fake train noises".

Plan accordingly. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ Outdoor adventures keeps the guided groups small (maximum 12 people). I appreciate the small groups since this was my first time kayaking. Three types of kayaks are available: single, double or triple occupancy. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A Discover Pass is required to park at Spencer Spit. If you do not have a pass, a $10 day pass can be purchased with cash or check. There were several rangers checking passes on our visit so be sure to have a pass visibly displayed to avoid being ticketed. WHAT TO BRING - Signed Release of Liability - Bathing suit or non-cotton under layers preferred - A synthetic shirt (capilene, polypro, Under Armor, etc) - Shorts or pants made of a synthetic material (may get wet/damp) - Lightweight fleece jacket or windbreaker/rain jacket to provide warmth - Water shoes or sandals that strap on (or shoes that can get wet) - Sun hat and/or sunglasses - Sunscreen and chapstick - Water bottle - Optional; Camera, Plastic bag for wet items and change of clothing - If you have a gift certificate or prepaid voucher (such as Groupon) please bring a printed copy with you! Dorito Dan was our guide for the day. Dan was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The first hour is dedicated to introductions, procedures and safety. Be sure to use the restroom before departing. Once on the water, there is no turning back. Kayaking is great for teamwork and communication. Both are required to avoid frustration. I recommend wearing weight-lifting/bicycle gloves in order to prevent blisters. Each person in our group started getting blisters towards the end of the tour. During our 3 mile kayaking trip, we spotted starfish, seals and majestic bald eagles. Thank you Outdoor Adventures for providing a magnificent day of play while surrounded by gorgeous Mother Nature. We all plan to return in the near future for another go-around.

We saw them feeding along the river bank, resting and drying wings in the trees, soaring high over head, and chattering to each other. We also saw many other bird species, which Luke pointed out along the way. The float itself is a delight. We didn't see anyone else on the river. Other stuff to know : Definitely wear layers with a water proof outer shell, including pants and shoes. I also was glad to have a hat with a brim to keep the rain off my face. You're outdoors in the PNW in the winter. So plan for 40s and rain and embrace the conditions. That said, if you're a dummy like me and leave your rain coat at home, they have ponchos in the visitor center you can borrow. Not ideal but better than nothing. The drive took us 100 minutes from Seattle on a Saturday. It's a gorgeous drive but Rockport and surrounds are lovely so definitely consider making a weekend of it. If you're not from the area I highly recommend driving as far up highway 20 as you can. Quintessential Washington beauty.

This was especially helpful when explaining how the recent flooding affected the eagles ability to fish. The concern was the eagles were not getting enough food and would be going into starvation mode. We were on poop watch. If they poop, then they were eating. Fortunately we saw an eagle take a bodacious dump. Big cheers all around! The drift boat was very comfortable with individual propane heaters and padded seats with backs.
