Like many popular recreation areas, the lake can become quite busy on warm days and weekends, and occasionally some litter is left behind. What I appreciate is that by the next morning the area is often cleaned up again thanks to the hard work of park staff and community members who help keep the park looking its best. One of my favorite things about Steel Lake is that it is stocked with trout once or twice each year, providing great fishing opportunities throughout much of the season. Visitors come here to fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard, and enjoy boating, with only battery-powered motors permitted on the lake. Overall, Steel Lake is a fantastic local resource that offers something for everyone and remains one of the best places in the area to spend a relaxing day outdoors.

The best part is you can visit their website and you can check if the water is okay for the kids to play with . There's usually an update regarding if you can swim and such. The only thing I'm worried about is when there is no one there to facilitate the other kids swimming, because I noticed there were lots of kids who goes there without their parents or guardians. The cops do come around for their rounds sometimes, but not all the time . I always have my eyes on my kids because there were sooooooo many people and soo many kids during school break holidays and I can't even imagine summer break. Some youngish man who claimed to have been the manager for 15 years (though he hardly looked old enough) was belligerent, and rude. Should in my face like he was trying to start a bar fight. I got out of there as fast as I could! My guess is they know there is something wrong with their fuel, and they are getting defensive about it. I'm gonna be honest with you, I have a huge fear of deep water. Then why would I purposely get on a…read moreboat cruise. Because fear shouldn't limit you. Booked ahead of time and made my way here at the time I chose. Once here, scan your QR code, get in line and wait until the boat is ready to be boarded. Don't do like other people, walking up to the loading area in the wrong direction expecting to be let on the boat because you are entitled. Once onboard, you will get the safety messages. There are a lot of places to go on the boat. Most will automatically go to the third level, the top deck with all the chairs. Where one might think that you would get the best views. I did this, that is until I felt boxed in and realized I could walk around at free will. Instead I found a place at the stern that gave me better views. I also would transfer to the bow every so often depending on where we were on the tour. This would be the second level, where you could purchase food, drink and souvenirs. The best part of this cruise/tour, I learned more about the history of city than I did on just wandering around. Learned about the history of the city on where things were, why they are there, and deep dives into buildings and companies of the city. The tour starts at Pier 55, and heads north. Going past other piers, waterfront landmarks, and neighborhoods. Seeing corporate campuses, industrial piers, islands, bases, cargo ships, and much more. An hour cruise sure did pack in the history for the city. Plus the captain was entertaining and knowledgeable. Be sure to pay attention during the tour, you'll get the inside scoop on the city and what to seek out when you are exploring.
