I called him from my layover in Oakland, California and told him I was gonna try to get a paddle in that same evening,if possible, he started describing it and said, "Man you just gotta get here, I'll drop you a pin!. You're not gonna believe what an amazing experience you're gonna have!" We both had goosebumps, he was so pumped and excited, and so was I!!! He was so right, Everything was perfect, and my goosebumps had goosebumps. It was such a beautiful Paddle. A few days later, I had a little more time on my hand, so I gave him a call, once again blew me away. My final night before I was to fly home opened up and once again he went above and beyond. I record my paddles with a GARMIN watch that synchronizes with the RELIVE app to show your video Trail on a satellite map and any pictures and videos you take and geo-stamped along your trail. It also allows you to edit pictures that were taken of you while you're paddling. And you guessed it, Scott took pictures of me out on the water. The guy is just amazing, his passion has no limits and it's infectious. I've never experienced such good service. After making the decision to move to another state, I wanted to book something special for myself so I reached out to book a sunset sail. After exchanging a few emails, and me specifically asking about payment, I was given the following response, "Yes we can do Sunday September 4 from 6 to 8 PM. There is no need for a deposit to hold that date. You can cancel at any time without a problem. If it's raining we won't go out. You may pay on the 4th. So as you see, we are pretty relaxed in our operations. When covid started, we tossed the rules out the window and it has proven to be much less stressful for everyone." He then went on to say, "Here are the four methods of payment: Paypal, Venmo, Cash, or Check. The total for a 2 hour cruise is $328.20. Let me know how you want to pay then that's all the information I need from you. Then I will send you a confirmation email that outlines exactly when and where we meet at the marina and other details." Since he said I didn't need to pay until the 4th, I waited until the date got closer. I reached out to him to ensure they got paid so I asked if he'd send me an invoice on paypal and give me the address for the marina so I could put in my GPS. He responded and said that he booked it for someone else because he had not heard from me in 13 days. I'm not sure why I needed to respond if he clearly said I didn't need to pay until the 4th. He mentioned "13 days" as if this was his deciding factor to book someone else. I believed I already had a reservation since he told me the date was available and there was no need to put a deposit to hold the spot. Now, apparently, I'm being punished for not paying.... and he didn't even call or email to let me know someone else wanted that time slot. It just doesn't make sense. He did apologize, but he made no effort to fix this. I told him he needed to get better at communicating with his guests and he agreed. But in any event, I'm the only one who takes a loss for this. So now I'll be leaving Washington without the experience. I told a lot of people about this sail boat cruise and everyone was excited that I was doing something for myself to get a little peace before I left. Now I'll have to go back and tell all those people that I didn't get to go because the "captain" couldn't handle his calendar and apparently the rules that were thrown out, only apply to those who have paid in advance, even though he says you don't have to. Smh. If you're looking for peace, don't use this service. If you like being let down and frustrated, definitely give them a try. What a joke.

As more of my friends have crossed this age milestone, I've seen the full spectrum of responses: people who downplay it and later wish they'd done something special, people who throw huge parties and regret the stress and effort, and people who choose extreme adventures only to find the adrenaline crash leaves them feeling depleted afterward, bringing '50' home in a hard way. This struck exactly the right balance. It was special enough to feel like a true celebration, offered a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and created memories (and amazing photos) I'll carry with me for years. While it's certainly not inexpensive, once you see the amount of equipment, preparation, effort, infrastructure, expertise, and care that goes into each flight, the pricing feels more than reasonable. It's a significant experience without being financially out of reach. My husband and I moved from the Bay Area to…read moreSeattle and have been checking out the local bouldering scene in the PNW - Climb Tacoma has been one of our favorite gyms to check out on a day pass since it's near my parents. FACILITIES For bouldering? Wide variety of routes for different levels and technical focus. For example, a lot of bouldering gyms we've been to have their routes go vertical to fit more climbing onto a set of panels. I like that Climb Tacoma has options where a route might go across, so I get to practice different climbing techniques. Some routes exercise grip strength, others may be more core or balance focused. It makes the experience more fun and rewarding when you complete the beta. I've only been climbing actively for a little over 7 months and can climb up to V2 routes; my husband can climb up to V5/V6. Climb Tacoma has been great because we're both able to keep busy with how many routes there are. There's even a small area for kids to practice climbing and a fun spray wall to test different holds. My only complaint with their bouldering is that their labeling system can be very confusing - you need to look at the tape color to indicate difficulty... not the color of the hold. For exercising? It's lacking - a very small fitness / workout area with little equipment compared to other climbing gyms in the area. I would say comparable to small fitness centers you get in hotels. That said... I don't come here for that, I come to boulder. LOCATION + PARKING Location is off S 38th ST so really close to Tacoma Mall or the Vietnamese area of S 38th ST... making it pretty convenient for finding food after a climbing session. In terms of crowds, it's never been a problem coming here on the weekends, the day before a holiday, or in the middle of a weekday (ex/ for their Monday special for "Femmes and Themes". Their parking seems a bit small but it's never been an issue for us as we're always able to find a spot. OVERALL Coming from the Bay Area, I appreciate how chill this climbing gym. It doesn't play loud music, people are respectful when it comes to climbing and there aren't "influencer" or gym bro vibea you get from Silicon Valley / SF gyms. If you are looking for a high end gym with the works like towel service, saunas, yoga classes, etc... then I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you're just looking to boulder in the area, this gym is great for that with extremely fair pricing. Other climbing gyms, pricing is understandably higher because there may rope courses with higher overhead. I like that what I pay here is for bouldering... and there are lots of options to choose from. Make sure to check their site for specials like Half Price First Fridays or the $15 "Femmes and Thems" discount (rentals included)!
