We just rented the boards and didn't do any instruction since we've all done a lot of paddleboarding. The beach was gorgeous and the water was really warm and clear so we saw a lot of fish, corals and urchins. The only downside for us was our reservation was during low tide and it was VERY low at the time and pretty windy! We had to be really careful navigating around reef so we didn't damage the reef or the boards. I would recommend doing a quick check of the tide tables before you make your reservation. There's also no cell service down where you meet your boards, so be sure your whole party knows where they are going.

First off, they charge the least of anyone we could find on the island: $40 per person for a 90 minute session. This is usually 15 minutes of beach instruction and another 75 minutes in the water. They then let you use the boards on your own to keep practicing. Our main instructor, Nephi, was a great guy who seemed to genuinely want us to be able to surf. They are not tied to one particular place on the island, but instead go wherever the weather and surf will be perfect for learning. That means that they could be in Poi'pu one week, Waimea the next, and Princeville after that. You just have to call to find out if they are booked and where they will be. Have cash or a check ready, no plastic for these beach bums. They provide everything else you need, except your swimsuit... They have the boards and surf shirts to help prevent skin rash and keep you warm. On that note, it is suggested that women wear board shorts to keep their upper thighs from getting rashed when moving or pushing up on the board. We both managed to stand up and surf multiple times during our first ever attempt at surfing! We highly recommend this group.

We had lessons with Adam and Austin, and both were excellent instructors. They watched what we were doing closely and gave really helpful, specific tips after each attempt to point out what we were doing wrong and how to fix it. Their feedback made a big difference and helped us improve quickly. They were also very thoughtful with my son. On both days, the instructors carried his surfboard down to the beach for him, which made things much easier and showed how attentive they were. Another thing that stood out was that they provided both rash guards and booties. From what I saw when looking at other companies, many seemed to provide rash guards but not booties, so that was a nice extra that made the experience more comfortable in the water. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for surfing lessons.

We were recommended by Marriot Bonvoy to give these folks a shot, and they did not disappoint. My son was set up with a really nice group of kids his own age, they provided him with surf shoes and a really nice 8' soft top longboard. Half of the class was spent learning the equipment, safety tips, and basic etiquette. The second half was showing them how to stand up and ride waves on the first day. With well over ten years of SUPing experience, we knew we didn't want to paddle up the river on…read morerecreational SUP boards. I sprung for two touring boards which turned out to be a good decision. Keylan was very professional and helpful answering all our questions. He showed us an aerial view of the river on his computer screen so we had a visual of where we were going before heading out. He set us up with two 4" x 4" foam "boards" which were placed on the car roof before loading the SUP boards. He provided us with straps to hold the boards securely up there for the very short drive (about five minutes) to the launching spot on the river. The paddle up the river and the hike to t he waterfall was definitely worth the effort. We did that first at Keylan's recommendation, then went to see Fern Grotto. Allow yourself lots of extra time for the return trip as you will be paddling into the wind which can be quite strong in certain areas. We had a great day thanks to Kauai SUP and Kayak. I highly recommend this business.

We had 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10), so rented 2 boards, since the kids couldn't really do much paddling themselves. It worked out perfect. The guy was very helpful to put the boards on the rental car, and they even let you borrow a couple rubber roof racks and straps. Was super easy and super fast. He did ask if we wanted a dry bag, but then never gave it to us. I also forgot about it until we got to the river. Parking at the river was a bit of a pain, but we did find a spot and hit the water. It was a great afternoon in Kauai and so good that there was also a destination to the waterfall. The waterfall was pretty cool, and this was a great excursion at a reasonable price. Give it a try and get a good workout!
