Katz's never disappoints!!!!!! Love the Chicken Matzo Ball Soup. Always a great place to go when everything else is closed.

This is an awesome deli in Houston. I always get the Corned Beef Reuben. I mean, why change something that you love? Katz's is open 24/7 and you can always find something delicious. read more

Katz's is deli comfort food, and for me, typically consumed late at night. The sandwiches are huge, the matzo balls hefty, and the pickles kosher. I'm not a huge fan of the sandwiches for which they are known, but I am a fan of the "Chicken in a Pot." The chicken is cooked with a ton of fresh veggies and potatoes in a flavorful broth. The chicken is always moist and the veggies are slightly crunchy, which I love. It's easily two meals for me, sometimes three. I can also highly recommend the Bloody Mary, which is strong and practically a meal in and of itself. Sure, service is spotty, depending on how late it is, how drunk you are, and how many other drunks are there - but Katz's is always high on my list for late night drunk eats. read more

So maybe it's just me, but there is way too much russian dressing on the reuben. It completely blew out my palate and got really disgusting. I heard great things about the cole slaw, but it was definitely more in line with pickled vegetables than cole slaw. The pastrami is excellent here, but that's only after I dragged it out of the sandwhich itself which was smothered in russian dressing to taste it. Service is decent here, but it took me a shade too long to get my check which makes me a bit antsy sometimes. The appetizers are delicious though, especially the platter of mixed fried goodness, with cheese, pickles and sausage. Was definitely gross to have a dead fly in my napkin though... read more

Great service and food! I went around midnight after a concert. Waitresses and manager are very attentive, restaurant and bathrooms are clean, parking is plentiful, atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch, or a late night bite! :) read more

I went there on Christmas Eve around 10 or 11pm. We thought the food was very good and reasonably priced. Wait times to be seated, order, the time it took for our food to come out etc. seemed longer than it should. It looked as if they were understaffed. The Texans had a night game that night, and they may not had taken that into account. read more

Stopped in with my wife at 5am this past Saturday and were very disappointed. When we walked in there were 3 ladies standing at the pickup counter/ register and only the one employee behind the counter in sight. We waited a min or 2 and decided to grab a menu and seat ourselves (no biggie). There was a 2 and 4 top already seated and 15+ mins before we saw any employees on the floor...it was the guy from behind the register taking the 4 tops order. He next took our drink order (tea and chocolate milk) and we gave him our food order at the same time. I then set my timer and just shy of 15 mins later I got my milk, another 4 mins and she got her tea. I told my wife we're leaving around the 20 min mark, but she went to the restroom right before. At 25 mins our food arrived so we stayed. M pastrami hash was pretty good, but the 2 eggs were barely bigger than quail eggs and my "Colossal Cinnamon Roll" was far from it and tasted similar to a biscuit with cream cheese icing. And probably more my issue, but the peppercorn "hulls" felt like bits of plastic in my mouth so ask to leave them off. My wife's omelette was over-stuffed with mushrooms and bell peppers and barely any tomatoes or turkey ham that she ordered. Now I know you have to give the food time to cook, but considering how long it took to get a milk and tea and that there was only one FOH person until we had been there 20+ mins and it was slow as all get out, I do not deem this acceptable...even at that time of morning. We'll give them another chance after the lunch rush, but if we get a repeat, I'm done with Katz's. By the way, everyone we saw doing to go orders waited a long time and one couple that came in after us left without getting anything (see, I am not the most impatient one out there). read more

The perk about this place, aside from the food being decent, is that its 24 hours and from what I experienced, doesn't close on holidays. However, the goddamn parking lot is across the street from the restaurant. I've had to dodge traffic on Westheimer because the traffic never lets up completely. if I can write a review on streets i'd tear Westheimer a new sphincter based orifice. But i can't... although i haven't checked... (scratches beard). It would also be perfect if i could write reviews on beards. THEN Yelp would be perfect. Aside from my bullshit ramblings: I like Katz's - "They never Klose's" (which is a slogan that has been pan seared into my memory, thank you annoying amounts of advertising). read more

Average spot with average sandwiches. Not much to say about this place. Server was normal, food came out right, and at a normal amount of time. The girl at the table next to us tried to fight the server and a cop showed up immediately. I guess they keep a cop on site for the late night (intoxicated) guests. read more

KATZ NEVA CLOZES! Always gotta get the fried pickles (but it's never enough). Last time I was very impressed by and pleased with the matzo ball soup. One of my girlfriends it's crazy about their French dip and gets it ever time, but I'm not a big fan. HUGE menu ensures you'll find something you like! Only downside is it is a bit overpriced (in my opinion). read more

Great food, great service, great big portions, great catering, and great hours - open 24/7. The sandwiches have a good hearty portion of meat on them, especially when you order the New York size. Love their beef bacon and halal bread french toast. Had the skinny french dip at this particular visit, so yummy. BF ordered ordered the New York Rueben, OMG, it was a huge sandwich. He tried to eat it like a man, but fork and knife prevailed, lol. read more

This is my 1 eating review for the new year. haha... So, after coming from downtown Houston, my friend and I decided to grab a bite to eat at Katz. Of course I wasn't the only person thinking of eating there. The place was full, just a little wait (15 min, which wasn't bad for how busy it was then). I ordered the Stuffed Cabbage, and my friend the Penne Pasta Alfredo. Got two slices of cheese cake to go (one plain and one with caramel). I've always had good food when coming here. If you must get something, try the Belgian Waffle. :) read more

ANYTIME IS A GOOD TIME TO GO TO KATZ'S!!! Everything I have ordered has been outstanding...seriously, I can't ever remember a time that I ordered something and I even thought it to be qusetionable. The restaurant in clean, and the wait-staff is always friendly, like they really enjoy being there. Recommendations? Milkshakes. Fried Pickles. Matzoball Soup. Smoked Salmon Club Sandwich. Yankee Pot Roast. Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich...I can't even remember everything I have ever tried. read more

NOM NOM NOM The Staff and Restaurant This place is two stories, always well occupied, and is well decorated. The staff is what I would call "snarky." They are nice enough to be good waiters, they are real enough to not get on my nerves. The Bar IT IS OPEN UNTIL TWO LIKE GOD INTENDED IT TO BE. That said, their drinks are not that great and kind of a rip off (expensive). I spent my 21st bday here and became pleasantly intoxicated but only after several drinks. The taxi lemon frozen drink tasted like freezer. The Food Previous reviews are correct. The fried pickles with ranch dressing are sooooo awesome. I get them every time and would selfishly eat them in front of The Queen of England without even thinking about sharing. I have tried several things so I will share a few: The side salad: nothing impressive at all, honestly I would rather chew on my finger nails because they are free. The mac n' cheese- no kraft crap, pure melty, stringy cheese. Soft and warm The bratwurst dog- It is open faced. I wasn't a fan. Fairly tasteless and they are overly generous with the sauerkraut. I would not get again Dessert I had the sundae with my boyfriend once and the brownie tasted like bread. Not great at all, but my friends have told me they enjoy the milkshakes read more

Katz is pretty cool.... I like the fact that they are always open.... that's very convenient when it's late, early or whenever and u just need some food..... the waiters here are cool and seem to be good at their job and are very friendly with the customers. ... my favorite dish here is fried chicken with pasta salad....the pasta salad is AWESOME..... REALLY IT IS .... Their cheesecake milkshake is a bit pricey but definitely worth the price ..... it's loaded with calories but it's worth it every once in a while read more

This place is terrible now. Get the classic Reuben for $15 and there is about one ounce of meat surrounded by a gigantic wad of kraut. You cannot even taste the meat there is so I little. Kids chicken sandwich is a chicken nugget on a mini bun. Gigantic rip off. read more

2:30 on Sunday afternoon at Katzs. Staff was friendly and place was clean, only a few tables active. Food however, was average at best. Tuna salad tasted like tuna from a can, ground up finer and mixed with too much Mayo; no minced onion, or other additions. Potato salad, same deal, too much Mayo, no celery, scallion, just potatoes and mayo. Bloody Mary was some sort of bottled mix that was so thick it was li k e a tomato milk shake. Not spicy, just bland. Overall a poor excuse for a late lunch. We won't go back read more

My first time was amazing but my second visit was like not cool. Rude ass waitresses like really who does that...wont be coming back again.

I keep wondering if there will ever be a pleasant experience at Katz's. On Good Friday three of us came for breakfast. First, the remodeling noise was close to impossible. After debate we decided to bear with it. The greeter told us that there would be, however, a 15-30 minute wait - this with no one else standing or waiting and plenty of empty tables. When the host noticed our hesitation he offered us the "communal table" right next to the entrance. As soon as we sat down and menus were brought to us a couple walked in and were immediately seated in one of the empty four tops. Very confusing. Food: Overcooked and dry scrambled eggs. English Muffin, dry and room temperature. Coffee: some of the sorriest tasting coffee in a city where flavorful strong coffee is the standard. Service: marginal. Order taker was very slow to get to us and the food runner was inept and obviously did not know the menu. read more

Ask for marquee!! He's the sweetest. We come here just to see him. Ohhhh and their food is great.

Katz's is this bizness!!!!!. We ordered the fired pickles and they were yum. This was out of the norm for us to visit this place and we were impressed. Our server was polite and when we told her it was our first time she was very patient with us and helping us understand the different items on the menu. Highly recommend read more

Katz's is a great late night bite! The staff is friendly, and I'm a huge fan of the Reuben sandwich and the ice cream sundae!. However, I feel as if the prices are way unreasonable because the "skinny" sandwich is still $9 and it's just served with a pickle, and a separate order of fries has literally 10 fries on the plate :( read more

First time here. The Ruben is to big to fit in your mouth and the clam chowder was awesome some. Can't wait to come back.

Here with my parents for their 38th anniversary. They LOVE this place. SID is thankfully bilingual so that's been awesome with communicating with our parents. He made them laugh and explained things to them well. Yummy food as always!! Thanks SID, you're awesome and have made my parents first Katz visit a great one. They said they're definitely coming back. read more

This place is a great atmosphere to go to especially if you're hungry in the middle of the night because they're 24 hours. However, their food is not the best. Although their desserts are good. Once the food got to me it was luke warm and wasn't the best. Their mac and cheese has no flavor and they don't have much variety when it comes to their drinks. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody . Customer Service is very POOR ! Waiter does not give equal friendly service . You have to flag waiter down to get your drinks refill . After trying to get to two places, I gave up and headed to Katz's. Plus I hadn't been here in such a long time. The last time I came here, the booths were beginning to tear up. That was more than 5 years ago and I'm happy they kept most of the same but updated it. The menu even looks better. I was craving pancakes and was sooooo glad they had some. The hotel I stayed in had a breakfast time of 6-9am and I unfortunately missed it. For some reason I've been craving pecans and noticed they had pecan hummus. Odd combo but why not. I hadn't noticed it took some time when suddenly the manager appeared and handed us the hummus and let me know it's on the House because it took too long. He was on his game! I saw him walking past several times, up and downstairs. Restaurant managers of restaurants this size don't have it easy and I was grateful to see him. The hummus was delicious much to my surprise. I couldn't figure out the white ingredient with the pecan hummus but it made it so good. My kids loved the bagel chips. They ordered pancakes and I too needed some as well. They were pretty good and my kids ate their meals quickly. My waitress was very pleasant to talk to. We spoke about visiting different states and then she mentioned a few other items on the menu and how they're prepared. She knew how everything was made without blinking an eye. I respect waiters who've tasted the food and have seen how it's prepared, as well as know a little about the background of the dish and how it came about. Everyone inside was very pleasant. We were offered cake but declined and were wished a wonderful day by everyone we passed by. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was that the food, while good, wasn't eyes-in-the-back-of-head-good. read more

My kids went to Katz's for a birthday celebration dinner after getting sweaty and gross at trampoline park. They parked at the restaurant and walked to the nearest gas station to freshen up and buy deodorant and water before going in for dinner. A tow truck hooked up the mini van that they rode in and wouldn't release it until being paid $160 for the "tow". They still ate there and Katz's. I'm livid. DO NOT EAT THERE, EVER. They had no sympathy for these being young adults, who work for minimum wage and are just trying to have an innocent good night. read more

They say Katz's never closes and when deciding where to eat on a late Saturday, it makes for a perfect choice. I came here around 11:50 PM and they were surprisingly crowded. After a 20 minute wait, we were directed to a small table upstairs. Our waiter quickly took our drink order and I browsed what seemed like hundreds of choices that the menu provided. Not 30 seconds after taking our drink order, the waiter came back and asked us what drinks we had order; it had been a long night is what he said. A little funny but nothing to be critical of considering that he was able to keep our drinks filled. Katz's offers an assortment of deli items ranging from Philly Cheese Steaks to fried chicken to egg omelets. They have a lot to choose from so for first timers, it may be tough to make up your mind. I decided to go for something a little safe so I went with the Times Square. Nothing too complicated, just turkey breast with swiss cheese, tomato, and lettuce. My girlfriend went with the the #5 or the tongue, turkey breast, swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. Both sandwiches tasted good and if I were to go back, I wouldn't hesitate to order them again. However, with such an assortment of items, it may be better to try something different. There isn't much new to say about Katz's that hasn't already been said. It is decent food for a decent price and they are open 24 hours. If you're in the area and are having a tough time finding something to eat late at night, Katz's makes for a great choice. Don't come here expecting to be blown away but I think that you're guaranteed to leave satisfied. read more

I felt a little ashamed - I'm not gonna lie - that in my 21 years in Houston I had not yet been to Katz's Deli. But last week, that all changed. It's a very spacious place, which - in the Montrose area of Houston - is a big bonus. Two floors equal plenty of room for parties, groups, and large gatherings. It also means plenty of room for the tipsy tipsters who come stumbling out of all of the Hyde Park clubs at two in the morning. Waiter service was great. The guy, and even another waiter, always made sure my iced tea glass was filled. You're also greeted when you come into the door by the person behind the cakes/cookies counter. I had the corned beef/Swiss sandwich, which really, the sandwiches aren't like *huge*... but they're not small either. Personally, I thought I paid a few dollars more than I should have. The total was like $13-14 for a sandwich and a tea, no sides. But, the sandwich was very, very good. There's a small parking lot in the back, which gets filled quickly. Street parking is a plenty on Crocker and Avondale.. just WATCH THE SIGNS. There are some signs that don't let you park from, like, 6pm-12am or some inane law... but it's the City of Houston - a city with many laws that leave you scratching your head. Aside from that, great place and good times! read more

Amazing!!!! Don't listen to any other reviews, this spot is super clutch. I order the Reuben with an extra side of Russian (I like mine saucy). The corned beef to sauerkraut ration was great and my rye bread was perfectly toasted. A friend ordered the stuffed cabbage, OMG, wasn't sure I would like that, but the flavor was out of this world. Also had a side of matzo ball soup, very tasty and flavorful broth, matzo was tender and soaked up the broth perfectly. So glad we came in!!!! read more

We went for breakfast and got the French Toast and an order of the blintzes with half strawberry and half blueberry topping. Both were good, not great. The coffee was just okay. We might be back if in the area for lunch, but probably won't try the breakfast again. read more

Ordered this through Uber eats while at work. I honestly can't even be mad. It's so funny that it was the highlight of my day. So... If you want a hamburger patty called "steak" this is the place for you. If you've ever wanted a mystery cream spinach with bubbles on top... COME HERE! (Love the tomato for garnish.) and if you're watching your carbs like I am, you shouldn't hesitate to pull up a chair at Kat'z deli and bar because you'll never get them. Come to think of it, I have been trying to watch my figure! Maybe I'll upgrade them to 1 star for the consideration. Thanks Kat! read more

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like over the past couple of years this place has sort of dropped off a little bit. The service is always really good. The wait staff is full of seasoned vets, but the food seems to have taken a dive to me. The food is still good it just doesn't have the same effect on me like it used to. Not to disrespect Katz but I blame Kenny and Ziggy's which basically ruined every other deli for me, including Katz. Katz to me has lost its edge and really the only thing it has a leg up on against Kenny and Ziggy's is the fact that it's opened 24 hours a day. Other than that they do nothing better in my opinion. The cost, parking, and wait staff are all equal if not better at Kenny and Ziggy's. Katz needs to step its game up for sure. read more
