I had just signed in on the kiosk and was told to go to the front desk to make a payment. Lady with glasses, and part down the middle of her head with a low ponytail, who is sitting behind the STOP sign at the front desk, rudely just told me "I'm busy right now" and someone else will help you. Not less than 30 seconds later, another woman comes up to her and she spends minutes answering her questions. Sigh. Currently here now. ------------------ This office lives up to the past reviews. I came here, because Dr. Giannis wasn't available at my usual Katzen location. He is retiring - I literally only stayed with this practice because of him! Mrs. Sardona (spelling) was also very nice when she prepped me to see the doctor. Madison at the eye glass center was super nice. But the main 3 people who sat at the EYE GLASS DESK to sign in, were also kind of rude and didn't bother even looking up at me as I stood there for a minute waiting to ask if there was a bathroom I could use Here's my recommendation - Go to a different location!! read more

Very long wait for everything. Husband needed new lenses for his glasses. The woman took a VERY long time because she had not had sufficient training. Optometrist was hard to understand. There is an unmarked restroom and you will have to ask for a key in order to use it. read more

The downtown Baltimore location informed me that they were short staffed. when I went to my appointment my wait time was over an hour. The staff was friendly but unorganized. If you need glasses go some else I'm still waiting weeks later. The staff informed me that they have boxes of glasses at the office and mine could be there but they haven't gotten to them yet. read more

My wife when here and the receptionist/ woman working the lobby was rude. She asked her if she knew what time it was and that they would closing soon 1.5 hours before the place was listed to close. Then they were supposed to contact her when her glasses arrived, did not. Then were screening her calls when the she was checking on the status ( we knew because the same persons answered from alternate numbers). Then my wife arrives and the glasses were there the whole time. The day after she picked them up, then they text rotfl. They didn't fit them with the Mrs had to go back for a fitting only for an optometrist not to be there. And wasted our time. This woman must be named Katzen otherwise there's no way they would let someone with the most deplorable levels of customer service represent a business that is supposed to provide such a vital service. -100 out of 10. I'm not sure why I am seeing the reviews that I am on here. I was skeptical going in for a medical eye apt today for a stye. I was seen within 5 min of checking in at the front desk. I visited Katzen Eye Group to address my swollen lower eyelids. After having some pictures taken with an iPad, I was informed that the procedure would cost nearly $5,000. I was then directed to the reception to handle payment or explore financing options before the procedure could take place. When I inquired about any immediate charges, they assured me there were none and encouraged me to apply for financing. I decided to consult another doctor in Silver Spring who performed the same procedure for $2,500. However, two months later, I began receiving invoices for a procedure that had never been performed. Over time, I received about five invoices for the same initial examination despite being told I owed nothing. On July 30, 2024, I received a call from a staff member threatening to report me to the credit bureau. I have since been contacted by Ann Keyser of Katzen Eye Group, and the issue was resolved. read more

I have been seeing Dr Bernfeld for almost 3 years now. She replaced both corneas and my experience with her couldn't be better. The office is clean and nicely arranged. I like the self check in which is easy to use and lets me pay my bill right there which is very convenient. At times I have had quite a long wait for my appointment but can see how busy the office is and always plan for it. The one complaint I have is the difficulty getting in touch with the office. I have yet to get through to them. I have texted DrB any time I have a question (she gets back to me immediately) or go to the office to get an answer to my question. My regular eye doctor referred me to Katzen for an eye issue and I was pleasantly surprised at how professional, and efficient this office is. The office is on the second floor so I took the elevator up and the door was right as you got off the elevator. When you come in, you sign in at the kiosk to the right and scan your own ID and insurance card into their system. I arrived early for my appointment and was called back precisely at my appointment time. Every staff member was polite and explained everything before they did it. The office was clean and had a TV in the dilation waiting room, which I couldn't see much of since my contacts were out and my eyes were dilated but it was a nice distraction as I waited for the next step in my visit. The check out girl was super nice and polite and got me set up for my next appointments with ease. All in all a nice professional office that gets the job done in a personal manner. read more

Pros: Nice clean office and the pediatric ophthalmologist was very personable, thorough, funny, and kind. He explained things clearly and seems to really care about his patients. Most of the staff is fine, except for the surgical coordinator (she made a couple mistakes but somehow it was my fault). It's a little disorganized. Keep an eye on your bill. They over charge "accidentally" and it's tough tryingto convince them otherwise. read more

If you get through to a person, you leave information and it goes "nowhere" They are in business to make money only and Service and professionalism is not very important. DO NOT GO HERE! I wish I had read online reviews first. Eye exam experience okay BUT my prescription was not correct and even when I went back a second time, my prescription was too strong. I took both pairs of glasses (unfortunately I also ordered prescription sunglasses) and will take them elsewhere to have done correctly. A very expensive mistake. A nice word to describe the optical staff is apathetic. The first time I went to pick up my glasses and couldn't see out of them I was made to feel as if it was my fault. The young woman in optical was annoyed when I said I couldn't see out of the glasses. Although when I returned for a repeat exam the OD said that he "probably overcorrected" the RX. I would like to give this less that a half star. There is NO reason to ever go here. Also both times I had to call to see if my glasses were ready - I was never notified. And the first time they had to send the sunglasses back because they were made as bifocals which I did not order. read more

The eye doctors are nice, the office is clean, and they have a good selection of frames. I ordered glasses with them 3 years in a row. The past two orders required over 3 month waits, multiple phone calls to check the order status, messed up prescriptions, lost frames, etc. I would not go there if you need your glasses fast. read more

This was the absolute worst eye doctor experience I've ever had. Everyone was impatient, and spoke so quickly that I couldn't understand a word they said. They didn't bother to wipe anything down or sterilize any tools. One of the employees at the glasses station actually YELLED at me! The only reason I even came here at all is because this was the only place local to me that would take my insurance, but honestly, I'd rather pay out of pocket than EVER waste my time at this pathetic excuse for an optometrist's office again. read more

I went here about a month ago after transferring from my old eye doctor who I had gone to for about 20 years. The front office staff was very nice and friendly (despite a very rude and upset older patient), and they were very helpful since my visit there was my first time. The girl who took me back and did the first exam on my eyes was pretty friendly. I saw Dr. Gormley for the remainder of my exam and she was extremely nice and knowledgable. She was also very patient since I had a few questions to ask her about my eyes. When looking at glasses, the staff was optical department was super helpful and Argie was especially awesome! She gives you personal input on which glasses she thinks best suits you and she was very patient with me while we were ordering my glasses. Katzen also has a very large selection of glasses and offer a wide selection of services which is awesome. The cons were that you have to pay up front at the time of visit for your glasses (my previous office gave you option of either paying up front once you ordered the glasses or paying half once they were ordered in the office and half when you picked them up). Also dislike how I was not called when my glasses came in - I had to leave a message 3x without getting a call back and then finally called the call center line and had the girl who answered get in contact with the office and she had to call me back to tell me that my glasses were in and ready for pick up (about 3 weeks after my initial visit which I feel like is a pretty long time since I have never had to wait more than 2 weeks max for glasses). Overall, I had a pretty decent visit at Katzen, but hope that they call me when my glasses are in next time instead of me having to basically hunt down someone to find an answer for me. read more

Glasses ordered in December have still not arrived - it's just a couple days shy of a month. That's sbsurd! They were quick to bill my insurance and charged me immediately for my portion yet feel it's perfectly acceptable to delay delivery. Calls and inquiries go unanswered. I've been going to Katzen for at least the last 5 years or so, seeing Dr. Gormley the whole way through. The office staff is always friendly and ready to help me if I need. Also, Dr. Gormley has always been very sweet and is extremely knowledgeable about conditions that affect the eyes. Having recently gotten diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I contacted her when I started having vision problems, and she has been willing to help me out every step of the way. I highly recommend going to Katzen, as I've never had any problems with them at all. read more

Do NOT go to Katzen Eye Group in Abingdon. I have worn glasses for 53 years. In all those years I have had an astigmatism in my left eye. They prescribe glasses for me with the astigmatism in my right eye. I call, leave msg, talk to receptionist. No one responds! I want them to correct my prescription!! I guess it jumped from my left eye to my right over the last year, or my eyes were so scared of these quacks, it hid in my right eye. Never go. read more

I received a contact lens eye exam over a month. I was fitted for a new prescription of contact lenses and was told to call back in about a week to two weeks to confirm that these lenses were appropriate for me. I called back in about two weeks to let them know that I did like the lenses and they were working for me. The receptionist said that they would have the doctors assistant call me confirm the prescription and then I could come pick up the prescription at the business. ( because of corona they were not having patients come back in for contact checks). It is now two weeks later three phone calls later and Was first told that I had to return to the office for my contact lens check. I stated the policy to the receptionist that I was told the day of the original exam. I finally get a finalized prescription after leaving three messages being on hold for over five minutes and a pretty rude receptionist. I also paid out-of-pocket for this exam over $400. Very disappointed with this place, second time going there, the first time we waited 3 hours and promised never to go back.almost 2 years later we decided to try again,My husband had an 815am appointment this morning am I had a 850am , he was supposed to be the second appointment an mine the 3rd , no one said anything to us, he was waiting in the room for 2 hours- I was never called until 945am, I ask why so late and my answer was if you cannot wait reschedule.Erica Elliott came to talk to us in the hallway with a very nasty attitude,very unprofessional, I asked her for her card but she left and never came back. I have been getting my eye glasses at the Abingdon location for about 5 years and it just keeps getting worse. The current situation has me writing this review and it's not positive. I had my eye exam 4 weeks ago and the bright spot is the Dr. was professional and actually had me in and out on time. The Optical department is where the wheels come off the cart. The Optician was helpful but the 3 weeks I was told passed so I called and had to leave a Voicemail requesting an update and that call was never returned. ( Typical for this company ). I called this morning and they answered and told me my glasses just came in from the Lab and are ready for pick up. I bought a pair of Oakley Progressive and a pair of RayBan sunglasses because the Lens supplier was running a promo. I went in and the RayBans weren't there and the Oakley's apparently are the wrong prescription because I can see better with my old prescription. This is totally unacceptable and the 3 weeks turned into 4 and the glasses are useless. They expected me to take them and "See if my eyes adjust" I gave them back and told them to have the Lab try again and the Manager told me I have to come back in and have my eyes checked by their physician. So all this and I have no new glasses and they billed and were paid by my insurance company 4 weeks ago and I am about 700 bucks out of my pocket. They progressively are getting worse.
