They pick a book wrap it super cute with cool stickers and give you a little sneak peek of what the book is about. I grabbed one as a gift for a friend! Large bookstore with a convenient parking lot in a shopping center. The prices are either publisher's (if it's new), half if it's used, and hardcover or special books have prices written in the paper. The system is a bit confusing without first asking the store workers as there are colored stickers on the back and help identify the book as being used. I love this book store and have been a customer there for decades. I don't live near there anymore, but love taking my kids and nieces there when we're in town. Their selection has something for everyone and I am particularly impressed by their collection of signed books. And my last visit I got 2 books from the FREE ARC box that were on my TBR list! Found this little gem in the Katy area.Was looking for the book " It Ends with Us" by Colleen Hoover and it was sold out all over the city. I decided to check some local bookstores and found this amazing one that has been in this location since 2019 per employees but has been in Katy for 40 years. They had my hardback collectors edition ready for me in front of the store and their customer service was phenomenal. Couldn't resist walking around the store with some assistance from Mona. Even picked up a used book on painting with acrylics. ( My new future creative endeavor that I will be starting soon.) My new book was priced at $14 even though listed at $29 and my used book for painting was $5. Definitely was a win win for 1st time shopping. The BEST community book store in the region! I love this place! My family and I have been customers for about 20 years, first at the location on Fry Road and now at the location on Mason Road. The staff is always super helpful and kind. The staff and owners care tremendously about the community. The vibe here is so warm, inclusive, and friendly. We've made several special orders over the years, especially for kid's school reading assignments. I've also purchased many books during their book sale events for 50 cents or a dollar. Additionally, we use the book credit from books we turn in or no longer need. What a great system! It's so important to support independent booksellers! Katy Budget Books is a true gem. They support the local community and so many worthy causes. Please go support them! I could easily see them expand into an even larger location in future years. I just really LOVE this place! I usually borrow books from the libraries around the Katy area, but when I want to add to my personal library, Katy Budget Books has been my go-to bookstore for a couple of years now. I first visited the store in search of a used book I had to read for school. Today, I come in on my way home if I have time to spare. Customers are greeted with a section of the store dedicated to charming small gifts, accessories, and other toys. There is an incredible array of both secondhand and new books. The store inventory is mostly fiction novels, but there are a couple sections for non-fiction books and other reference material. Anything not in-store can be placed for pickup on a later date. The staff is kind, attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. It can be a little difficult at times to navigate through the shelves, but you can ask any team member for assistance, and they will be happy to help. One time I had come in to purchase a particular novel, but it was not in stock. The store member assisting me at the time asked me about my preferences in authors and genres and provided me with great alternative selections. It is rare to find similar interactions from larger retailers. Echoing the other reviews here, Katy Budget Books is truly a local gem. In addition, you can learn more about the employees from their personal recommendation sections at the front of the store, which often leads to good conversation. I usually come in looking for one specific book and end up taking home a couple more. The prices I've paid for secondhand books from this store are incredible for the condition. You can also trade in books for store credit, which can lower the price you pay at the counter even more than the already reduced price. The product life cycles of essentially all goods across the market have been greatly shortened over time, so the sustainability aspect of the store really appeals to me. I was assigned to write a reflection piece as a review for a local business I find valuable. In addition to the tangible products I have purchased, Katy Budget Books provides an invaluable sense of community - which is quite rare to find offline. The store hosts events open to the community almost every week of the year, including a plethora of book clubs and discussions and author events. Earlier this month, Katy Budget Books hosted a representative from the Texas Freedom to Read Project. We should all think about why certain books are banned based on the context of the world around us. This place makes me smile! All the shelves are stocked with tons of books. You can hardly find any empty spaces on the shelves while browsing down the aisle. The books are organized by genre - contemporary, fiction, non-fiction, children's, etc. I will say that the books, for the most part, were not misplaced in the wrong location - impressive! Of course, I walked right into my favorite genre, suspense. If you're are a fan of James Patterson, you have your work cut out for you since they have a large selection of his novels everywhere. To name a few of my favorites - Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Stieg Laarson, and so much more. They do have new books that are full price, and used books that are discounted. It was a little difficult to find the price of the used books. I later discovered the price was penciled in at the right upper hand corner on the first page. Just FYI: some of the discounted prices for the used books have similar prices for a new book on Amazon. However, there's just something about physically looking for your book, and reading the book blurb that makes the entire experience fun and memorable. Nice book store. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I stopped in with a friend of mine to peruse their selection. They had a pretty wide variety of books to choose from. I would say that they are heavier on the fiction side of offerings, but I found two books that I wanted and I prefer non fiction. The value for the books are great. If it has a barcode on the back it means its a new book and is face value. If it doesnt then its half of the msrp which is great. I will definitely be coming back. They also host events that they were telling me about such as bringing independent authors in and kids events. read more

Yet when my husband and I found 5 paperback books to apply toward our current paperback 'fund' we still owed over $7. We DID purchase a bookmark at $2.95+tax OK! But really we still owed? And once we drove out of the parking lot on the way home, I scratched my head and said wait...what? Katy Budget Books charged me $15 for a 15 year old book!! WTF? We checked to see what the current book trade-in policy was. Make an appointment, bring enough books to fill the cardboard box on the table out front and no more. They take the books inside and figure out how much credit you have. They implemented this policy during the height of covid and it worked so well they've kept doing it. In the past people would all show up at the same time with a ton of books and expect their books to be tallied up forthwith.....by the time we'd browsed the shelves our credit totals were ready....we like the new system. They have a few shelves near the back with marked down prices, 2 dollars each or 5 for five....mostly hardbacks. read more

I have been a customer for 19 years, since they were located on N. Fry Rd. Since the move and the owner not being more involved in the stores daily business, I have the hardest time finding my books, the kids and biblical sections are minuscule. Previously to use my store credit I used to pay 10% of the original cost, now I pay more and there is $3.97 fee added. This place used to be a gem. read more

I visited Katy Budget books after I was referred there while browsing in the Target book selection. It was crowded on the day I visited which was a Friday. They have new and used books and give a credit when you bring in used books but you have to make an appointment. Their customer service needs improvement I was not greeted upon entering the store and I had to search for assistance. Everyone working was preoccupied with checking in books or other tasks and no one was on the sales floor. It was hard to understand their pricing but I found someone who explained it to me. The new books are pretty much regular price and not really a deal. I can find them on Amazon cheaper or at Target. The used selection I found just ok. Most of the books I wanted were in poor condition. I don't like old, used books . I like my books gently used and most books I wanted were not in great condition. I probably wouldn't visit again but if you like old books it's your spot. The selection probably varies daily but I can always go to the library. read more

Borderline fraud. No prices on most books. If a book is misplaced, and it's in the "used section" and happens to be full price book. It is your responsibility to recognize that, even though there are no prices on any of the books. Some of the books that they had were the same price that I would've paid in 1993 for a brand new book in the same copy. It's ridiculous. A 30 year old book should not be six dollars. Limitations on books can't be a negative for a bookstore that sells used, cheap, recycled books. I loved this place so much it smelled like heaven and home and a rocking chair by a fireplace and a window with snow outside. The aesthetic is simple - books books everywhere! Piled in piles and stacked on the shelves. The place was just bursting with books and old pages, I honestly fell in love. I remember there being a little cafe with small trinkets and goodies and actual breakable mugs drying by the coffee, seats that begged for you to just chill and read all day. While looking for a medical book, I found myself wandering towards the back (I think bathroom area), and I came across an actual maze of stacked books that led to a little kitchen storage area. This is one of the best second hand bookstores around. Katy Budget Books is certainly worth a look if you're in the market to buy or sell books of any type. At the beginning of the summer, my daughter and I went to Katy Budget Books to sell some of the books she'd outgrown and some I didn't need anymore. The store gave us credit that never expires that we can use to buy other used books in the store. Sure, we didn't get cash but we got more than enough credit to keep us recycling books there for a long time. In addition to the great selection and set up to the store, there are active book clubs that organize through Katy Budget Books. I wish I could give this place a ZERO Star rating...why? I bought a brand new book by Fannie Flag on Friday around 5:15! I returned the book on Saturday around 1:30 but was told no way! It was explained that you must return the book the same day or you don't get your money back! So if you buy a book 5 minutes before closing you have a 5 minute return policy! What a bunch of crap is that? It is a huge pile of CRAP! I have no idea why they have a horrible return policy and I really don't care. I love used book stores, and I really wanted to love this one. Whatever organizational system is in place, I don't really get it. It's hard to distinguish between the used and the new merchandise. There are no prices on anything. Basically, new stuff is list price (not a great deal) and used stuff is half off list price (regardless of condition). I picked out several books for my kids then wandered the store looking for books for myself, but was kinda turned off by the weird, chaotic shelving system. At the back I found a shelf with stacks of books that were labeled with specific categories, and started looking at a really interesting book about emotions (for toddlers). I was gonna add it to my stack when I was told, a bit abruptly, by a nearby employee that "those books aren't for sale yet." Um, ok. How about not leaving them out on a shelf in the store? read more

This place sells cheap used books that are in great condition and it's a fraction of the cost of buying new or even online. They know their stock well and take good care of each customer. My children and I ended up buying over a dozen books in one visit because their prices are so low. You will also find other rare finds in vinyls, comic books and their children section is a lot of fun. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for cheap books in excellent condition.
