Ok for in person shopping. Selection is hit or miss. Ordering a book online is a terrible experience. A nice cookbook came wrapped in flimsy plastic and was ripped to shreds. The DVDs are too expensive. They should be cheap considering not a lot of people use them nowadays.

Extremely disappointed! I went there to sell over 100 books in great and fair condition and all they offered was $3. I spent more in gas and a 80 minutes drive back and forth than anything else. I had 8 books in my hands that I thought I will be able to exchange and I could not get any books for my daughter with that. Also, if you are looking for Spanish books don't bother going there either. On the phone they said they had a lot of Spanish books for kids, but they don't have that many. read more

I love books, but most of all I love losing myself in a good story . I've been buying a lot of books lately due to a bookclub I joined. I started buying my books at Borders and Barnes and Noble, but that has stopped. I have found a reader's Utopia (at least for that reader's bank!). I have been to this particular store a few times and I love (love!) the sales section! Let me just say that I purchased a book at Barnes and Noble for $26 and my sister got it at Half Price Books on sale for $1!!!! Omg, I felt like screaming!! Those people cheated me out of $25 dollars( it was like a year ago though)!! Now, you may wonder how are they able to do this, sell these books so cheap?! I shall let you in on their business strategy: They buy new and used books and resell them to you. Yes, that's the trick! I personally don't mind buying used books as I did it anytime I could in college (and saved me lots of money!). I 100% recommend this particular store. I found the book I needed for our next meeting and paid $5.93 after tax! How I love the sound of my money not being spent! Half Price Books, I think we've started something special here! read more

For the most part the staff was very helpful over the phone. But when I came into the store there was a bit of arrogance that subsided with all of this staff. If you can Overlook that it's a great place to go to get books at half price. My favorite place to buy books... Any books... I bought my planner here, bought CDs & DVDs here, bought magazines here, bought most of my vampire novels here too... lol I have lots of novels, like 3 trunk-full of them... Never been dissapointed with this place. The employees are nice & give good reading recommendation. I've sold my school textbooks here, sold my magazines here... They give a good fair price. The process is easy enough. Bring the stuff you want to sell, they'll review it & give you an offer. In the end it's up to you if you want to sell it to them or not. Their new release walls are comparable to barnes & noble or other book stores. Ofcourse the books aren't brand new, that's why they're wayyy cheaper... Sometimes you can find some brand new stuff too here. They also have lots of stuff for kids. read more

Love coming here. They usually have a great selection at really good prices. The kids have found so many of their favorites in the Clearance section and the books are in good to great condition. Selling with them is also really easy, but can sometimes take a while (especially if there are several other people selling before you). We come by once a week / every other week. The staff has always been helpful when needed. The place is clean and well organized. read more

These folks are the BEST. Amber helped me to find some additional books I wanted to get for gifts. She not only found more in their store but searched in other stores and ordered them. They called when it came in like they said they would. A week later, I called looking for another book. Again they were SO HELPFUL. I ordered it while at home, paid for it and in a couple of weeks, we should receive it. She was helpful in telling us about pricing, shipping plus some additional information. read more

Sold them some movies (all of my gangster films) sold them some books too (books i didn't think i'd get a return on) and got a few duckets for the merchandise. Surely they get offered more books than can sell. i looked in their stock room and it is a library of its own, so i didn't expect much in return. Can't hate the book selection, especially when they're marked down tramendously. They only shelf books in presentable condition, so if you're ok with the content then its a sell. Lest i fail to mention that their vinyl section serves them well. Not that its all the tunes i enjoy listening to, albeit a small selection, they sell records! i don't visit as often as i'd like b/c i try to read too many books at a time; i can hardly help it as a victim of the TV generation which is why i read to de-frag all of that mess from the tube. read more

I went in today to sell some books and, most likely, buy a couple of books that I've been wanting. I normally avoid book stores because I can usually find what I am looking for so much cheaper online or at thrift stores. I brought in some books I had priced on eBay. I knew I could get around $60-$70 on eBay for the books. I buy and sell a lot on eBay. I knew I would get low-balled at HPB, but I figured if they offered me around $35-$40, I would be ok with that, as I have other books to list on eBay and selling to HPB would save me time with having to take pictures and list items. I was quite shocked when they offered me $11 for all my books. I really felt insulted. Also, when I brought my books to the sales counter, the girl that helped me told me that they sell all books in the store at half price or less. While I was looking at books while waiting for my sales call, I noticed several books that were more than half the original price of the book. No, not old, vintage/antique books. Regular, recent books. So, I felt insulted and lied to. I will no longer give HPB my business. That said, this particular store is not as nice as the one on Westheimer that I've been to before. read more

You never know what books you can find here for cheap. I found a book I needed for class and it was only $4. If I bought it elsewhere, it would've been $10. It might not sound much, but imagine trying to buy 13-15 books in one semester. It'll definitely add up. The more I can save, the better! The books are in good condition too. They aren't new, but you can find some that are for very cheap as well. You probably won't be able to find every book you're looking for. It's very limited, but it's always worth a try to stop here first before you go to a bookstore. read more

I love this store! I found so many books that were $20 at Barnes and nobles for $10 here in good condition. Literally HALF priced lol. There isn't many selections at this location. They have a small section for each genre. I am mostly in the science/math section whenever I come here to find books and I find that the science section here to be smaller than the other location on westheimer or any other store but speaking of the store itself as a whole, I would recommend half price books to anyone. I saw textbooks here that I wish I would of known before to have bought here instead of online, I would of saved so much money! read more

Okay, this is place is awesome. I'm a TOTAL book fanatic, and I always seem to find something great. This place sells magazines, young adult fiction, children's books, manga, even video games and records. They have an absolutely astounding science and computer section. They also have board games, and basically everything that Barnes and Noble sells, but cheaper. And get this: they give you cash for books. They might not give you a ton, but hey. It's cash. For books. And last I checked, nobody else does that. So, all in all, I give this place 5 stars. read more

This Half Price Books is a bit out of the way, but a solid location. The store seems to be a bit on the suburban side, somewhat akin to the Pearland store, but as an older location there tends to be a bit more eclectic. I've found the history and business sections to be better than average, but the art section could use more local trades. read more

Do I even have to give a star? One of the worst stores I have ever been to. A very rude larger last employee should not be working here. She was rude my daughter, and could not make me an offer on a book because "she doesn't make individual offers." They do not offer a decent price what so ever. Super helpful in assisting me to find YA books appropriate for my classroom library. HPB even has books they will donate to teachers but unfortunately none were available for High School students at this time. I was able to give my classroom library a small facelift for about $65. This is my favorite book store. It feels much cozier and intimate compared to large bookstores. I like coming here because you never know what kind of "treasure" you're going to find. I've stumbled across rare books, collectibles, and even a computer game that would have cost me over $200 on amazon. With Half Price Books price and a coupon I got it for less than $100 out of the door. The staff is also very helpful and knowledgable, especially compared to other larger bookstores. read more

Worst place to sell back books. The excuse "we have a lot of those" doesn't hold water if you only have a copy or two on the shelf and any copies you do have are only slightly cheaper then Barnes and Noble. The prices at Half-Price are becoming more and more expensive while the price they are paying for books they buy from their customers is getting smaller and smaller. Nope, used to come here on regular basis to sell books and DVDs but no more. Would rather donate than contribute to this scam. read more

Love this book store! Staff is very helpful and nice :) My daughter always leaves with 3 or 4 reasonably priced (EUC) books.

The store name should be changed to Full Price Book Store. Most of what I was looking for was at or over regular price. Some of the employees are lacking is social skills also. They had one book priced higher than you can buy online, even with shipping it would have been the same and you would have a new book. I will not shop there anyone longer. read more

Great store. I can always get lost in the Memoir section...but it took me forever to find it! Mostly well-organized, good selection, and the employees are helpful. I've sold a lot of books here, and while it doesn't seem like I get much money for them, at least it's something! They do have to make a profit, and their prices for the books I've bought are pretty fair. Have purchase and sold here. I usually find what I'm looking for... And if they don't have a certain book they usually have one by the same author. The only thing I will say is that I wish there yoga section was bigger. I'm a yoga teacher who is always looking for awesome yoga books but they usually fall short. read more

I enjoyed this location, but it's easy to miss since the road next to it is so busy. I was able to get a Physics textbook for $5! I tried to sell a book here though and that wasn't a great idea. Only wanted $3 for my book but they offered only $1.50. :( Great to buy, not so great to sell. read more

Great prices on text books and even video games! I went in today and they were giving off 20% discounts on every item in the store which I thought was cool because they're already discounted on the previous items that they are selling. I also love how they are opened late even on holidays which is also convenient for me. read more
