After making several rounds of trying different katsu spots, I was prompted to try Katsuya. First, the portions are very generous. We ordered the white snow chilli cheese katsu ($20.75), red carbonara katsu ($22), and karaage chicken thigh ($7.95). It was my first time trying katsu drizzled in sauce -- which is nice if you enjoy lots of sauce with your food. Frankly, I much rather prefer the original katsu with traditional worcestershire sauce on the side because too much sauce leaves the katsu soggy. There's unlimited miso soup and salad refills, but only one rice refill per person. Highly recommend giving Katsuya a try -- A+ on the menu variety. xx Ren read more

I ordered takeout the first time, it was the sweet chilli pork Katsu. The sauce is spicier than anticipated, but I love it. The Katsu still came in reasonably hot and not soggy despite being delivered. The breading is crispy and thin. Today, I went for dine in. All tables were separated with 2m apart. I ordered the Japanese chicken katsu and my husband ordered the curry chicken Katsu. Miso soup is steaming hot, katsu is piping hot, breading is crunchy and thin, chicken filet is moist. My husband's curry katsu is quite flavourful as well. They are also very reasonably priced, I will definitely go back. read more

Eat now diet later...! That's definitely the mindset you have to go by here....who can resist that crispy batter?! Katsuya is a newly opened restaurant serving all things fried! And they do a pretty decent job! We ordered the Terimayo Pork Loin Katsu + Curry Pork Loin Katsu + Honey Butter Powder Fries. The Terimayo was a favourite where it had a lot of great flavouring and the batter remained really crispy! And an added bonus is they offer unlimited miso soup and cabbage and a rice refill too on Katsu sets! The honey butter fries was probably something we could have skipped - the texture of the fries resembles the costco fries quite a lot and it is very lightly coated with the flavored powder. Overall will come back here again for their Katsu. If you eat light you can probably go by sharing a Katsu set and a side! It's pretty filling! . read more

Great local Katsu! Have been here about a half dozen times and I've never been disappointed.

Katsu is crisp and tasty. Fried shrimp cook just right. Udon is great too. Recommend to order it when you come here. read more

This restaurant replaces the C-Lovers fish and chips place in Coquitlam and opened in the summer of 2019. It has a good selection of tonkotsu (breaded pork or chicken) as well as udon. I had the pork cutlet with terri mayo and my wife had pork loin with sweet chilli. You get a generous helping of pork and also a free miso soup. Other options such as fish or chicken tonkotsu are available as well as many sauces. The service is also excellent, I can't wait to go back and try other combinations! read more

The food was absolutely amazing! We ordered the Special Set Katsu and the Terrimayo sweet potato and cheese katsu. We've never had katsu as good as this! The servings were huge and cheap for their size! Good for 2-4 people. The service was amazing as well! Our server was very attentive and friendly. They also brought us potato croquette and udon soup on the house because they thought our food was taking a while which was super sweet of them!! The ambiance was also very cute and clean! They played good music as well. We are very satisfied! read more

The portions are ginormous so definitely come hungry, I wasn't able to finish half! Good value for the amount of food you get in the lunch set (available 12-4pm), the katsu wasn't dry and quite crispy. We tried the fish, chicken and pork loin and they were all good read more

Katsuya provides a Japanese experience that is not so common around here. When you think Japanese food, your mind typically goes to sushi or ramen right? But Japanese katsu is a huge staple of Japanese cuisine that is so often overlooked in North America. I got the Spicy Garlic Cheese Katsu, which is a mixture of pork and mozzarella cheese. While it was good, I don't think I would get this one again. The cheese is a bit much for me, which may or may not be a good thing for others, but it was just a bit too heavy in an already heavy dish. The spicy sauce isn't spicy at all, it's crazy sweet actually which is off putting to me and I would have definitely preferred the one without sauce if I had known the flavour beforehand. Outside that, the katsu was delicious. I love the fried garlic, and along with the juicy meat inside of the deep fried exterior, it's basically a match made in heaven. Pricing is not bad at 21 dollars for this plate, which easily filled me up. They seem to have deals on cash and takeout which would put it at a fair price to even have for lunch. At regular price, I'd say it's decent for dinner but too much for lunch. Location is comes with parking which is always nice. Overall, I liked the food, and I'd definitely come again. While I have some gripes, maybe they can be remedied by ordering something else. I recommend getting something without cheese or sauce if you're not a heavy eater or a big sweets + salty kinda person. read more

Yummy Katsu house! We came with the family (7people) so we could share all the Katsu dishes I learned from th chef that they bake their bread for the panko! The staff were helpful but it took awhile for them to take our orders, and to serve the food Each set comes with soup, cabbage salad and soup. The refills of soup, salad and 1 bowl of rice are free. I think 2 people can share 1 set and add a side Katsu Our favorites were the carbonara katsu, brick cheese katsu, Teri Mayo Katsu (with bonito flakes) The honey butter fries is a Must Try! Uuuuuum flakey deep fried goodness! Katsuya's batter is super flakey and crunchy. The meat is thicker than the competitors and portions are huge! My family ordered the carbonara, garlic chilli, silver brick cheese katsu, croquettes, kfc and fish katsu. The carbonara sauce has a bit of a kick, personally not my favourite but my family seems to like it. I prefer the garlic chilli because of the deep fried garlic on top. You can do without the croquette imo, it was slightly bland but I guess that's what the tartare sauce is for. We got one in loin and one in tender - tender meat is white ($1 more) and loin is dark - I prefer the loin, because tender was slightly dry. Both are all in all cooked well, moist and flavourful. The silver brick Katsu is cheesy goodness! and they make it a round, cylinder not a square brick like their photos, but very yummy! I think they make it better than what I had tried in Korea. Can't go wrong with korean fried chicken!! It was a bit saucy but it was finger licking good - if you like sweet, a little cinnamony chicken with a kick, order this. My fave was the fish katsu!! Fish is seasoned very well, light batter and crispy *salivating just thinking about it! 4 stars because of the poor service that my mother experienced TWICE when ordering and picking up the food. Employees chatting away at the cash register not acknowledging their customers is a NONO in my books. 4.5 stars for the food 3 stars for service read more

Did you guys know that you can get 30% off Take-Out at Katsuya when you pay with cash? Skip the delivery apps and call them directly! (The base prices are lower) My bro and I ordered two katsu dishes (original and carbonara) and the crab meat cheese croquettes). Even though we picked the dishes up a little later, the crispness of the meat and croquettes were still amazing. I would say it's much more worth than Saku. There are so many options available at Katsuya. Their Katsu's are Korean/Japanese fusion, which is the best of both worlds (we do think it's more Korean than Japanese). Did you know that they make their own breadcrumbs everyday, hence the crispy and flaky Katsu we had. We noticed that their breadcrumbs stuck on pretty well and didn't leave much crumbs after each bite, that was definitely a bonus for us because more of that goes into our bellies. The pork was not dry at all, in fact it was quite juicy. However, we do think that the Katsu is lacking a bit of flavour. When we took a bite of the Katsu on its own, it was quite bland, so the sauce was much needed. Covid Protocols: Tables were 2M apart, all employees were wearing masks. Decent variety of a every thing deep fried. Like. Wish it doesn't give me inflammation..... Had the original pork loin with rice and my partner in crime had the cheese version. Both tasty. Also had the "crab" ahem potatoes croquet. Also delish. When we got on to pay, cashier inform us the special discount is only for take out only. Still good. Note to others they are offering 30% off for take out only. Nice new joint in the hot and hip Burquitlam hood. Lots of newness all around. Check them out read more

First time visiting this place. First impression of the interiors is its very clean, modern and welcoming. Their freshly baked in-house bread were all displayed on the wall. They are apparently used as bread crumbs but not for sell unfortunately. To reveal the menus, a QR code on the tables can be scanned. The menus online were all pretty clear, they even have pictures of what the food may look like. So after they took our order, we were started off with miso soups and a small appetizer which were complimentary. (with unlimited refills) Individual reviews... Japanese ketsu pork loin: -sweet to the taste -comes with seaseme seeds Sweet chilli pork loin: -i find it not spicy at all, could be spicier -tomato paste like kind of sauce Spicy pork loin: -spicy enough for my tasting but not too spicy that will burn your tongue for a while -taste like tomato sauce Overall, the pork itself is very deicious, very big portion of meat was served. I am quite happy with the meat but the sauce part is very personal to everyone's liking. Also, they will give you an extra bowl of rice at no charge if you would like more. I will definitely come again next time! read more

We came here for dine in as we were craving Japanese food. They have a large variety of options to choose from and we got the pork tender katsu and the pork loin curry. Both were well made with delicious panko but I would say the katsu is not at the level of Saku in Vancouver or Katsu San in Richmond. The curry was good but we wish there was a little more sauce. I would recommend Mr Japanese Curry in Vancouver if looking for Japanese curry. I also do not know if they offer free refills of rice or salad as we weren't asked. Would come again if in the neighborhood but wouldn't make a special trip out. read more

I found this restaurant thanks to a quick Yelp search. We stopped by at 2 pm so the restaurant was not busy. We were seated right away. I was impressed at the menu options available. We ordered the cheese crabmeat croquette, garlic chili pork tender katsu, carbonara cheese pork loin katsu with mozzarella and curry fish katsu. A small dish of cabbage and jalapeño slices were dropped off shortly after we place our order. Miso soup was dropped off next. It was pipping hot. The croquettes arrived next. It was soft potato goodness with bits of crabmeat. Our child loved it so much that he ate two of them. The katsu sets were dropped off after a short wait. I was impressed with the portion size. I ordered the garlic chili pork tender katsu set. The pork was nicely fried. I loved the garlic chips. I had leftovers to pack home for lunch the next day. Miso soup and cabbage were unlimited refills. Rice had one refill. Service was good. Our server stopped by a number of times to clear plates. read more

My girlfriend and I wanted to try something different than Sushi or Pizza for dinner, so since we were in the area, we decided to stop in and try this place. I ordered the Carbonara Udon, and it was very surprisingly good. It was my first experience of combining an asian style noodle with a european style creamy & rich sauce. I understand it isn't necessarily considered "fusion cuisine" to some people but to me it certainly felt like it. I have to say that never in my life would I have thought that it would be so good. The service was pretty good as well, and the price was very reasonable for the size of ortion and quality of the dish. the decor worked really well with the restaurant's ambiance and it felt chic, clean and inviting. The one place this restaurant lost some points from me was because when I came, it was near the end of the COVID19 pandemic restrictions. I presented my usual proof of vaccination/ID that was conveniently in my apple wallet. It is important to note that Ive never had any issues with this form of ID/Vaccine Passport. The hostess insisted that I still pull out my Driver's license and vaccine card as she had never seen such proof of vaccination so it couldn't be valid. Her lack of knowledge and closed-mindedness should not have resulted in irritating both of us, embarrassing me in front of many other guests and leaving a bit of a "bitter taste" in my mouth. At least the food was delicious and that made up for the unpleasantness of the situation. I will likely return to try this again when the memories of the pandemic will be well in the rear view mirror. read more

Very good Katsu for the suburbs. This was pretty covid times. No lineup the day my friends and I were there. The parking lot was jam packed though. I enjoyed the terimayo the most, it was saucy and not so dry. the original curry katsu was pretty well done. They make the batter with crumbs from bread they bake. I felt the carbonara katsu was a bit odd and carbonara didn't really go with katsu. The honey butter fries are good. They taste like the honey butter Asian potato chips. This restaurant is transit friendly & easy to get to. Katsuya's interior is not too big, but it's pretty cool as one side has a glass window where you can peer into the kitchen. I went during the weekday around 12pm. There weren't too many people when I was there, however, it was difficult to catch the waitress's attention a couple of times for more water. I ordered the pork tenderloin katsu, while my friend ordered the cheese katsu. I found the food to be mediocre. The breadcrumbs weren't as airy and light as I hoped for it to be. The pork also seemed a bit dry... I feel like my dish was probably fried for too long? I also wasn't a big fan of their sauces (for both the salad and katsu). However, the waitresses allowed my friend and I to stay there for quite a while. No one rushed us out so we were able to take our time eating and catching up - which I appreciated. read more

If you like katsu, you got to check this place out! We ended up coming here twice in 1 week because I enjoyed my meal so much. Within the two visits, we tried: - Takoyaki $6.75 - Chicken Kaarage $6.95 - Sweet Chilli Cheese Katsu (forgot exact price but around $18-20) - Katsuya Original Cheese Katsu (forgot exact price but around $16-18) - Japanese Pork Tender $14.95 I recommend getting their: 1) Takoyaki --- Easily the BEST takoyaki I've ever had! It's not your typical soft takoyaki you get at a night market. Instead it is extra crispy on the outside and the inside is jam packed with filling. 2) Japanese Pork Tender Katsu --- Such a classic. It is so juicy and so simple but delicious. I wasn't crazy about their Katsuya original sauce or their sweet chilli sauce. I would definitely recommend getting the sauce on the side if you want to try it. The chicken karaage was average and would not get it again. I think this place is a good place to grab a quick meal by yourself, cute little date or even a small gathering. Most tables are meant for 2-4 people. You might want to call ahead if you plan on bringing 4+ people. The last time I was there, I saw a gathering of 10+ however I'm not sure how likely you would be able to fit everyone in during peak time. Overall, I'm a fan. Katsuya has great customer service, their ambiance is cozy and cute, they make all their breading for their katsu in house and their portions and prices are very fair. read more

Huge Portions calls for a big appetite. This place has crazy big portions, and their menu is very big with lots of different options. The best part when you order a katsu set it comes with unlimited miso soup and salad refills and 1 refill on the rice. The salad (cabbage) it comes with has an amazing dressing which makes it so tasty and refreshing. * Cheese Crabmeat Croquette (3pcs -$5.25 // 5pcs - $7.75) ~ We ordered 3 pieces to share with the 3 of us, and it was super delicious, The sauce with it is a tartar like sauce and it was so good and tasty. I really enjoyed the sweet-ish tartar sauce pairing. The crab croquette was good too, had lots of flavour and good pieces of crab meat. Only regret not ordering more! * Pork Loin Curry ($18.75) ~ I like their japanese curry. I do wish there was more onions in the dish as it gave it flavour but lacked a bit. The katsu was super crunchy and crisp, and the curry was good with the rice. * Also got the Pork Loin Carbonara ($18.75). * 8/10 ~ I really enjoyed the croquette and the sauce it came with! The curry lacked a bit of onions and pepper but overall still delicious. * 8/10 ~ its pretty cheap compared to most katsu places and the portion is fantastic here, the miso soup and cabbage salad is unlimited refill and the rice has 1 refill. Total bill before tip: $45.00 (3 people). * read more

While Saku and Katsu San offers a single variety of cheese, typically mozzarella, in their cheese katsu, Katsuya gives you the option of having two different varieties of cheese.
