She blames it on the fact that my nail beds are too slim for her to do the shape that I asked when I always get square nails so today she gave me coffin because she didn't know how to do her job and try to make it seem like I didn't know what I was talking about. Who should go to Kathy's: people looking for a quick, cheap service with an amazing back massage. Gel mani and pedi for only 50$, plus a 5-10 minute back massage with every service, in and out in an hour. This place is a DREAM in my opinion. Who shouldn't go to Kathy's: if you're super picky about what your nails look like, or getting a mani/pedi is a way to get out of the house for a while - maybe you won't love it as much. I've been a long time, happy and devoted patron of Belmont Nails. I stopped into Kathy's today just for a simple and quick mani because the prices and my favorite place have been going up and so is the wait time. I'm super glad I did- I'm switching favorite nail places! Not only was it clean and friendly, the staff was great and very funny (and had excellent language skills--not as though that affects their skill set, or should impact a rating of a salon. The manicure I got was A) less expensive B) done more quickly and C) better quality! *I couldn't believe it!* To top it all off, while you're drying your nails they give you a back rub. I won't lie, I'm not a fan of the creepy nail salon back rubs (or arm rubs) generally, but this was totally worth it. Great manicure+Great staff+Great price=Great experience. I'm a fan. read more

Well...to be honest I liked how my nail turned out kind of but I told her specifically that I made my nails grow just for this and she cut them so short and once we were done it was time for the massage and I was exited because I saw a lady that as before me and her massages looked good, when it was my turn the lady only put the warm towel on me and after a little she massages my neck with the oil and it burned like WHY and my neck cracked which I don't think is good. I can't believe it. Nor, can I believe these reviews! I mean, I believe these reviews....but I had to go see Kathy for myself! A nail place that will do a free massage?! Can't be true, can it? Can it?? It's true, ladies and gentlemen. It. Is. True. You will be asked if you want a massage and a very nice woman will actually knead the knots out of your back and give you a scalp and face massage WHILE another woman is doing your nails. I am serious! This was HEAVEN! The manicure is great, too. It was twelve dollars for a manicure that lasted 2 weeks?! Really! Really! You need to head to Cushing Square in Belmont to get this treat and it is so worth it. I was having a stressful day and needed a manicure. The two stars, is me being nice. I should of stuck to my gut and waited till I could get to my regular salon; but I knew I was going to be busy this week. It sucks to say, but first off these people were shocked (it was written all over there faces), that an African American woman had entered; secondly, they debated in their native tongue over who would service me; yes, you say I'm assuming, but no; I'm no fool. Finally, I picked a color, decent selection of colors by the way. My pedicure was actually really nice. Quick, but nice. She could of stood to scrub the bottom a little better, but my feet aren't bad, so I let it pass. Now my nails...... Terribile. All I got was a polish change; and that was a hassle. They must specialize in Shellac and Gel, because as soon as they saw I had an acrylic overlay it was like, thank goodness I wasn't getting a refill. Just took the polish off and painted. No washing of the hands in between, no oil on the cuticles, just all bad. Then had the nerve to tell me my hair had gotten on the nail. I barely have any hair; I corrected her, and let her know her bristles were quite sticky because she needed to open a new top coat. I actually had to ask her to clean up around my nails. My nails look like I painted them myself. I get my nails done every 9 days; as I said this place was close to my job, so I gave it a try. My paint job is so streaky, and I hate being the customer to keep saying fix this fix that. All they kept saying is nice color, nice color, because it was all over my face how disappointed I was. Two stars for the polish selection, massage chairs, and the massage they give. It's in a very accessible location, but if you can i recommend going elsewhere. I've totally tested out other places in and around Boston, and in other states; this by far is thee worst. read more

Last minute call for a much-needed mani/pedi. I only do this about once a year, and I always wait until it's desperately needed. Overall, the pedicure was fine, but a little excruciating if you're not a fan of someone handling your feet in such a way as to get them all neat and trim. I do think, as another poster said, that the callous/skin smoothing part could have been better, but my toes are at least sandal-worthy now, which was my goal. Same with the finger nails. Fast, efficient, good job all around. I do not have a knack for picking nail colors, but I didn't feel especially comfortable asking the woman doing my nails her opinion. But the massage. Wow. Not very private - the salon was nearly full when Kathy stopped to do my shoulders, head and neck while my nails were drying. Seeing as I had actually gotten a disappointing massage (like my manicures, once a year, and when desperately needed) earlier in the week, I was delighted by Kathy immediately noticing the knots in both shoulders and went to work on them. It was a little strange admittedly. Incongruous somehow, but I left there being able to look over my shoulder again - no more pain. For $35 a mani/pedi and first rate shoulder/neck/head massage. I have mixed feelings about this place but overall I left feeling "Meh. I've experienced better". I've been a couple times and while they pride themselves on their massages their nail skills are lacking. I got a pedicure which was decent. The technician spent a good amount of time massaging my feet but there was no scrub or hot towels. She totally rushed through my manicure. She made my pinky bleed (I can't remember the last time that happened) and didn't seem to care. The filing and paint job wasn't bad though. After the mani you are moved over for a complimentary massage - which they don't communicate well. I knew it was coming but if I didn't I'd be like WTH is going on here? They do spend a good while massaging. I'd say 15 minutes and go over your back, shoulders, arms, head. I was alarmed at first when she didn't lotion my hands during the mani (again no hot towel) but she did it during the massage. What really bothered me is one of the other manicurists NUDGED me over to make room for her client - no excuse me no vocalized communication just kind of pushed me over - I would have said something but my nails were finally dry and I was dying to get out of there. The salon is on the cheaper side - $35 for a mani/pedi but I really believe you get what you pay for. Kathy's is really small, dingy, has no decor. They have a limited color selection. I moved two years ago, and still don't mind driving an hour to Kathy's because it's the most affordable quality mani/pedi with good customer service. They're always friendly, you get a free, quick back/neck massage at the end of each visit, and I can go three or for weeks between each gel mani with no chips. I just file them a little when they get too long. I love Kathy's and will continue to come here as long as they're open! read more

I stumbled upon this little nail place when I was headed to The Spirited Gourmet. I was in need of a fill and a pedi so I thought "why not? They weren't busy so I walked in and was taken right away. This should have been my first red flag since it was Saturday (peak time in the nail biz). Honestly, it is one of those moments where you wish you could stop and rewind. I have acrylic nails (I long for nails that are strong enough to grow past my fingertip but alas, I am cursed by genetics). The first problem? As she was drilling off the old acrylic she actually drilled into my fingernail. Three times. After living through that trauma, she (Kathy) proceeded to put a ton of acrylic on, then drilled AFTER I washed my hands, then did a horrible job with the polish (I actually have polish glopped by my cuticle. I think I could have done a better job myself.) After the fill, I was set for my pedicure. The girl who was supposed to do my pedicure was still with another customer. I was fine waiting, after all, I was a walk-in. Next thing I know, Kathy started giving me one of the roughest massages I've ever had. Now people, I know most of you love massages, I on the other hand, abhor being touched my strangers. Hate it. DO. NOT. TOUCH. ME. I kindly asked her to stop to which she exclaimed "it is free, you not like?" No dammit, I do not. To make matter worse-the next day my nails turned yellow from the cheap acrylic. Yuck. I look like a 60 year old who's smoked 3 packs a day since the age of 14. My pedicure? Horrible. I think I get more dead skin off by putting lotion on at night. The girl put no elbow grease into it. My heels show absolutely no improvement. All in all, save your money. Unless you are there for the free massage, you're not going to get your monies worth. read more

This is a gem of a place. I moved to the area 2 years ago and stumbled upon this place while wondering around. Kathy and all the women are very sweet and accommodating; I've always just walked in and never had to wait. I do know they get a bit busy on the weekends when it's nice, but if you have to wait there's a Starbucks and some little shops you can browse. I've always had beautiful manis and pedis. The color selection is fun, I like bright interesting colors, but there are also plenty of shades of red and pink for those on the more conservative side. After your nails are done you get a very relaxing neck/back/arm massage. If decor is a deal breaker for you then you might want to try someplace else. Kathy keeps it simple. The price is right and the atmosphere is friendly. read more

Like other reviewers, I noticed the massages going on around me while my toes were being painted. Though the "Free" massage at the end of my pedicure was awesome, it didn't totally make up for the fact that my pedicure took all of 15 minutes. For $25, I got a 25-minute pedicure (i.e. not a lot of scrubbing of my sandal feet) and a 5-8 minute shoulder/neck massage while my toes were drying. If you're one who likes her personal space, this place is not for you. I'm a bit torn as to whether or not I'll go back. I prefer pedicures that really scrub my heels. I work nearby, and everyone kept saying the same thing: "FREE MASSAGE. FREE MASSAGE. FREE MASSAGE." Of course I had to check it out. Normally I go to a nail place down the street that I love, and I felt terrible passing them up one weekend for this new place. But I really, really, really love massages. There's not a lot of street parking, so if you arrive at night on a Friday or during the day on Saturday you may have to park around the block, or in a pay to park lot across the street. The inside was typical of any local suburban nail salon; the inside is small & the decor outdated. The owner and employees are very sweet and attentive. They have a decent nail polish selection and the manicures are nicely done- the price is $12.00. The best part about my visit was, of course, the massage. While you're sitting down, either while have your nails done or while they are drying, someone will give you a pillow to put your head down on. Then, they go to town on your neck, shoulders, arms, and upper back. They know where knots are and how to work stressed parts out. I was massaged while my nails dried- it lasted around 15 minutes and at the end, I was relaxed and ready to go. I really enjoyed it and would go again. I would definitely suggest this place to someone who is trying to treat themselves/ relax and spend less than $20 doing so! read more

I got a full set of acrylics and they did a terrible job. They chose the wrong tip size which has caused pain. Also I have had full sets done and the nails always lasted a full 3 weeks before causing any pain whatsoever. This time however, I didn't even make it a week. Then my nails were hurting and I was afraid to take them off. Also they nicked me with the drill and all she did was look up at me. This place always does a top notch job! My niece and I go and she does gel and I do regular mani/pedi. They always have new nail polishes and the ladies do a thorough job and really take their time. I get calluses on my feet and they will take the time to get rid of them. I also get my eye brows waxed and they do a great job! You can conveniently pay through Venmo if you want or cash or credit card. And the best part is a free massage after! Not like 5 minute massage, I have legitimately gotten like a 15-20 minute massage after. The ladies are nice and the seats give good massages. Always a relaxing experience. Ohhh...I love this place. Kathy is a sweetheart and some times her little daughter is in there too who is also cute as a button. Its not a fancy nail place, but it gets the job done. The prices are reasonable and I like being in in out of there fairly quickly. The customer service there is pretty good too. Free massage was a huge draw for me to this very small nail salon which was enjoyable enough. When it came to the actual nails they did an o.k job. They rushed through not doing a very thorough job and the paint job was streaky and ran into my cuticles they didn't even cut. Note: I just went in for a basic manicure- no acrylic nails, nothing fancy. I did not know about the free massage going in, and personally, that was worth the price of the manicure just by itself. I love massages, and my favorite part of manicures are the hand massages, so getting not only a hand massage, but also a shoulder, neck and head massage is absolutely awesome. my experience at Kathy's Nails was EXTREMELY TERRIBLE! I went there, hoping to get a fabulous set of acrilic nails... When I entred the salon, all except one of the staff members (who was attending to another client) were totally ENGROSSED in PLAYING CARDS!! As I entred I mentioned I had an appointment - to which they asked me to take a seat and wait for the already busy staff member to get free. All of them resumed to playing cards and GIGGLED, uttering words in their native language, which was really RUDE!!! The owner was not around, so they were taking full advantage! The busy staff member (I wish I could remember her name - she was wrinkled and petite) got free after about 45mins... She stared drilling and filing my nails... It was slightly irritating at first and then it became EXTREMELY PAINFUL as she kept poking my cuticles with her bloody nails!!! I told her that I was getting uncomfortable, but she just wouldn't let go or consider my request to be gentle with my nails... At the begining of the session, I had requested her to keep the nails as thin as possible to maintain a natural look and feel... instead she coated my nails heavily with the gel solution and made it look extremely atrocious!!! At the end of the session, I has my cuticles bleeding and it was extremely painful... I got so harrased by the awful staff at Kathy's... immidiately I asked them to remove the gel nails.!! And I walked out of the salon, sobbing... never to return again!! I would NEVER RECOMMEND KATHY's SALON to anyone. THE FREE MASSAGE PROMOTION IS A BAIT TO BRING CUSTOMERS TO THEIR SALON... I just went here for the first time and am a very happy customer. They take walk-ins which is essential for me. Got a clear coat manicure and spa pedicure with all of the usual procedures.
