I ordered two dumplings there, one with veggies and one with beef. Veggies were ok, ones with beef were pretty good. The dipping sauces they provide are good as well. Here's why they get 1 star. The cashier who handles money also packages food. With the same unclean hands she touched inside the container that will have food in it. As i was waiting for the order there was a cook taking a smoke break i guess, he went inside and since there's a window i could see him a split second later working with the dough. Did not even bother to wash his hands. This place is suppose to be above the general take out places and yet when it comes to hygiene even the worst Chinese Food places at least pretend to wash their hands. read more

I've been waiting for this place to open and finally got there today to sample their food. Judging from the amount of people walking in and out of this place I clearly wasn't the only one waiting to see what Kathy's had to offer. We ordered the traditional pan fried pork dumplings, pork juicy buns, beef pie and the #6,#7 and #8 boiled dumplings. I must say everything we had was delicious, the standouts would be the boiled dumplings which are packed with some interesting flavors. I would definitely recommend this place, there are a few tables here (6 seats) and a small bar around one side of the store. It is more of a "to go" place but if you find yourself looking to eat there it's it's very clean and nicely decorated. read more

Kathy's Dumplings is set up to be more of a take out/delivery rather than sit in place. There is seating available, but soups are brought out in to-go containers and dumplings on plastic plates. We were surprised at how clean the food tasted. That alone makes them stand out from other Chinese restaurants in the area. Everything was being made in the kitchen to order so it did take longer than what we're accustomed to... I thought that their dumplings tasted a little bland. I had to drown them in sauce to get a flavor I liked. The wonton soup was very good and I loved the scallion pancake. I was so full that I almost passed on the free milk tea you get from checking into yelp, but I'm glad I didn't -- it was a nice finish to our meal. I would definitely order from here again, but I think we'll ask for delivery next time. read more

The vegetable dumplings I got were fresh and tasted great. Apparently they're vegan, too. The serving size (I think I got about 8 dumplings.. I ate them too quickly to count) is great for the price. Since I was getting takeout, I was surprised when they didn't ask me if I wanted any condiments, so I figured they just gave me some of each. When I got home and opened up the bag to find they only gave me soy sauce. Not a major problem since I have hot sauce at home, but I would have liked to been offered. I guess Soup Dumplings are not as easy to make as they seem. Stopped by Kathys Dumplings last night when I saw they had them on the menu. Order one soup dumpling (4pcs) and shrimp spring rolls. When the soup dumplings arrived I was eager to dive in. Unfortunately when I poked the SD there was no juice! All of them were completely dry. Idk if i got a bad batch but I was disappointed. Food is FRESH and the place is very CLEAN. My favorite and a must have is the cabbage and pear salad. Simple but WOW! The dumplings (had all of them) are all very good with the exception of the shrimp dumpling. It's just ok. The plain pan fried dumpling is probably most everyone's favorite. It's very good. As it was snow storming in NYC one dark and gloomy Saturday night, it was only fitting to be craving something warm and soupy. I Yelped what was in my general neighborhood vicinity and came across Kathy's dumplings that supposedly had cheap and amazing dumplings/soups. I ordered take out for my family: hot and sour soup, boiled spinach dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings, chinese cabbage salad and the beef noodle soup (Kathy's recommendation). Everything came out to a mere $23.. and I checked in on Yelp for a free milk tea! Overall, the food was above average. I didn't like the hot and sour soup.. it was way more on the sour than hot side and the color/consistency was different. My parents enjoyed the pan fried dumplings opposed to the boiled spinach dumplings. They said the spinach dumplings were tasteless. The chinese cabbage salad was light and delicious and the beef noodle soup was probably my favorite. The broth was flavorful and left a comforting warm feeling in my belly.. exactly what I was looking for. There's a Yelp option to do a pickup/delivery order to make your life easier in terms of having to call and deciding what you want over the phone. This is a cute spot in bay ridge, cleaner than your average Chinese spot so I was excited to try it. However, it was just okay. I ordered a wonton noodle, which came in a plastic container and was minimal... we tried the steamed dumplings (xiao long bao) and they took quite a while and just shouldn't be ordered at a place like this. Should have tried fried dumplings or something. Seems decent enough but the noodles are a bit small and flavorless... Eh, not much to really say except mediocre experience. My husband is a northern Chinese boy and he's obsessed with these dumplings. We've tried the beef sandwiches and Kathy's pancakes and it's all fresh and tasty and pretty darn authentic. I should preface this by stating that I ordered for delivery, I would assume that eating there would be better. But based on delivery: The dumplings weren't bad, not the best I've had, but they were good. I ordered regular pork dumplings, pan-fried pork dumplings, Scallion Pie, and juicy pork dumplings (soup dumplings). Again, they all tasted like standard dumplings but nothing special. Great place for a quick lunch or snack. Many generously sized appetizer options. It's counter service, so you can start with one or two choices and see if you want more. No waiter service makes for a cheaper and more relaxed meal at a place like this. I do wish they had fluffy pork buns on the menu, because we really like those. I decided to order today for lunch. I've never eaten or ordered from here before. I have to say I did really enjoy the whole meal and the prices are way decent. I'll review each item separately. Also, I ordered online from seamless. It did not take long at all and I had a great experience with that! Coconut bubble tea w/ tapioca- really wonderful. The coconut is not overwhelming. I enjoyed this Wonton soup- my least favorite mostly due to personal preference. Surprise! It comes with cilantro! While I was at first excited to see that, since I like cilantro, there was too much of it. I felt like I was eating cilantro soup, which is a shame because the generous helping of 5 wontons was delicious. I also liked the mini bok Choy. It was slightly under seasoned and I really feel I would have loved it without the cilantro. Just a thought. I wouldn't order this again. Veggie Spring rolls- delicious. Crispy and very flavorful. They tasted fresh and not like they came out of a freezer! 2 come in an order. Pan fried pork dumplings- loved them. But then I would expect to love them if a place has the name "dumplings"! They were very tasty, meat is nicely spiced and flavored. The dough is just right and they were not super oily. The dipping sauce is a nice compliment. But oh, Kathy's special pancake was phenomenal. I did not want to share a piece of that crispy flavorful pancake, I do not know what made it so good! This place scores big with me, and we order here pretty frequently. 1. legit dumplings in Bay Ridge in the 70-80 streets 2. Food comes out at reasonable speed, it's not "fast" but not slow either 3. Price to food amount ratio is decent If you have strong preferences as to "WHAT DUMPLINGS SHOULD BE" Kathy's will no doubt continue to fuel that discussion. Fantastic dumplings, made fresh in house. The pan fried pork dumplings are the best but you can't miss with most options. Also the pan fried beef buns are too easy to eat too many. Two must order sides during any visit... Chinese cabbage salad, which is a clean, crisp palate cleanser and the beef/ scallion pancake wrap which is an awesome asian version of a street taco. I thought the dumplings were actually pretty good. I'm not the biggest fan of dumplings but I liked these quite a bit. We got an order of pan-fried dumplings (pork) and an order of steamed dumplings (beef) and we enjoyed both types. I found the spring rolls pretty disappointing. We wanted something on the side and so we chose spring rolls. They were completely overcooked. I like crispy food but really, this was WAY too much. Thus, a star is lost. The place is pretty small, so there isn't much in terms of seating. But I would definitely get dumplings from them again. read more

I love this place because it's not your typical Chinese food take out. Everything is made fresh to order and you can taste it in every bite. I've been to this place twice now and both times I have really enjoyed it. Everything that I have tried has been really good. The food comes out quickly and it is cheap and filling. So far I have tried the noodle soup with beef, the pork dumplings both steamed and pan fried, the scallion pancake wrap and the juicy meat with steamed bun. Literally everything has been awesome. My two favorites have been the noodle soup and the juicy meat with steamed bun. The noodle soup is just like pho which is a personal favorite of mine. The juicy meat is a sandwich that makes for a great appetizer and packs plenty of taste. I will def be making this one of my regular spots to eat. read more

I have always driven by this dumpling store and it gives off an impression that it is a restaurant that sells American versions of dumplings. The name is American and it is located in bay ridge. However I was very pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon this place on yelp. The menu has Chinese descriptions as well which persuaded me to give them a shot because there's nothing more I hate than crappy American versions of Chinese food. Their dumplings are very blah in my opinion. The skin is too doughy and thick. This is one place I'd def opt for the steamed opposed to the fried dumplings. The skin doesn't hold up well when being pan fried. It just tastes mushy to me. However their pork and chive filling does taste fresher than the cheaper Asian hole in the wall dumpling spots. I am however in LOVE with their special pancakes- Thin and crispy filled with finely chopped vermicelli, eggs, chives, and carrots. These are just wonderful and I order them every single time. I'm a huge fan of their hot and sour soup as well. Kathy's does it differently than other places. With every spoonful of soup, there are a ton of ingredients such as bok Choy, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and thinly sliced tofu. It's not as thick and gloppy like the usual fast food restaurant places are. I definitely recommended Kathy's special pancakes and their hot and sour soup! Super fast delivery as well! read more
