From my first contact with the staff and administration, you could tell this place was about providing a nurturing and excellent environment to the children. This school really does foster diversity. It's not just words that are used in advertisement. They foster those values in the classroom and everyone is made to feel included in all they do. In short, they practice what they preach. The academics are excellent. I'm a believer in giving children a balanced learning environment. Hundreds of hours of homework does not make a child enjoy learning. I like that there is work time and play time appropriate for the age. And honestly, at these grade levels, too much homework equates to extra work for the parents. This school chooses an appropriate amount of work for each grade level. My son has thrived since moving to this school. FLA has been a true blessing to our family. I'm so happy we found this school and I'm forever grateful to all the teachers and administrative staff. My son once again has a love for school.

One of my kids had her for 4th and 5th and did not complain at all. both of my kids still keep in touch with Ms Jacobsen and will say that Ms Jacobsen is a strict teacher but she is also fair and caring. She will not allow disrespect in her class. The kids always had events going on like "Jeopardy" or the novels that se will read with them. When it comes down to bullying she does not let things get out of control. She makes her classroom a safe space for all of her students. If she sees the kids struggling she will make time to help them out. This school is a place that feels like a community. The kids barely get 15 minutes of free time, and even then, there are barely any balls or sports equipment available for them to use. When they are available, they're quickly taken away or locked up, making it nearly impossible for the students to enjoy their short break. It's gotten to the point where some teachers are having to bring in their own balls just so the kids can have something to play with. That shouldn't be the responsibility of teachers -- it should be something the school provides consistently and reliably. Recess is not just "free time," it's a vital part of the day for students to release energy, socialize, and reset before heading back to the classroom. The lack of access to basic play equipment really undermines that, and it's frustrating to see such an easy fix being ignored.
