I think the staff is helpful and caring and I have never had any issues with any teachers or any problems with any of the staff, it's all positive. Wonderful school! It is highly ranked and my children are thriving! We have been at the elementary school now for three years and each year it keeps getting better. Their fine arts program is top notch. They learn violin, Spanish, yoga... they use critical thinking skills! They have clubs such as kindness club, karaoke club and they put on awesome school productions. This is a parent involved school... the more you get involved the more you will see what's going on and how to get into Ptso, clubs, sports and other fun things. Do not allow your child or children attend this school. The staff alone are careless and lack serious problem solving skills. My daughter was bullied and humiliated by 3 girls so bad that it caused her to eat her lunch in the school bathroom stall. The schools solution was to change her class and lunch schedule. The problem was still on going after that and I found my daughter on the ground in her closet after she hung herself. The school's solution was still no consequences for the 3 girls and make my daughter do home school when she returned home AFTER barely making it to the trauma unit when she was hospitalized. She missed two tests on the last day of home school and wasn't given a grace period to take them so Doral Academy failed her and said she needed to repeat 8th grade again. I've went to the school, I've emailed, and I've even called and they don't believe in giving her a fair chance and just ignore the problem! read more

My grandchildren attend this school. I have found over the years that personal bias and intimidation are prominent in this school. As a person of color I made sure to give my grandchildren "the talk". It is evident in there sports programs, after school programs that it is who you know that is fine and my grandchildren need to understand this process. Some of the teachers are good but they are the luck of the draw (work with your own child). They have a bias over reaching staff (that make decisions based on their experiences and ethnicity) they need to be more diverse and less judgmental! School should be a safe place. First of all let me start by saying the teachers and staff that work in the school, also are in-charge of traffic, and I have to say that I couldn't believe how they treated me on the first day of school when I simply did not even know all the rules and still trying to get acquainted with my surroundings there was no understanding whatsoever. We enjoyed the elementary side of this school but once we moved onto middle school there has been much to be desired. The lack of teacher involvement with some students, administration is extremely slow to find resolutions if any. Last year there was no toilet paper or soap, I had to send my kids there with it in their bags. Dress code? They should just not bother with that one anymore. Bullying is a huge problem there and there is a blind eye turned in most cases. If you donate money I'm sure you will be heard. Need to make an appointment to speak to admin? Good luck. I have found some real gems at that school but for the most part they need a complete overhaul. How does a middle school only have one teacher for some core subjects like Math, English, Science or History? The draw of a charter school can be very appealing but there are so many issues at this one. Doral has worked around the clock to roll out an online learning program to be implemented since the schools were shut down. After 1 week of its inception and implementation, I must say they seemed to really cover all areas of learning and I believe my kids have not missed a beat. I have a high school student and a middle school student and they were both able to access all instruction with ease. Doral not only is providing instruction but also the support to access the instruction. I attribute the success of this program on several factors. First, the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to academic excellence on the part of the administration, teachers and support staff has been impeccable. They appear to have covered all the basis in providing equal education to all students grades K-12. Not an easy feat. Second, the nurturance, guidance and instruction provided by the teachers is a testament to the education that was provider prior to the schools closing. The teachers at Doral Redrock know each of students and are continuing to provide the same level, if not better level of instruction as always. Third, through instruction, trainings, developing and continuing with community partnerships, support staff continues to go above and beyond in supporting student learning in areas of academics, emotional skill building, technology and basic human needs such as receiving access to food and other essential items and services. Finally, the ease at which students were able to transition to online, web based learning speaks to the preparedness the students already had before the Covid19 Pandemic closed our schools. Most of the technology was already being used by students each day in their learning, so the transition has been smooth, uncomplicated and fun. Please note, this is not a school system that functions in a perfect manner at all times and yes, as a relatively new school they have had their share of growing pains. However, due to the dedication of the administration to build a solid educational environment; the genuine concern of the teachers and the nurturance of the support staff to assist every student; Doral Academy demonstrates a thorough, thoughtful, creative and effective approach to problem solving. Remember, it's not about waiting for the storm to pass but about learning how to dance in the rain. Doral, you are dancing beautifully! Keep on dancing!!! The instructors and staff here don't care for the kids, they do not know how to handle difficult situations. The school cares more about raising money than they do about the kids. Some of the parents behavior when dropping off or picking up their students is horrendous! Weak teachers, if you are not white don't expect them to treat your children fair. Now, before I begin this review let me just say that I cannot speak on behalf of the middle/elementary school. But let me explain a little bit to you about the highschool. This is, by all standards, physically the worst possible high school you can send your children to. PLEASE, if you ever had to listen to one yelp review make it this one!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL. Firstly, Doral Academy has quite possibly the worst education in the valley. My child previously excelled in all subjects in school. After attending the high school here, he struggled in almost every single core subject at public school. THEY DO NOT TEACH ANYTHING! Even the worst public schools in the valley get through all of the core subjects for high school. This school does not. Your student will lack in Math and English proficiency for however many years they attend. When you switch them out of this school to another, they will be left behind by the other students due to the terrible education Doral can provide. It is absolutely atrocious. Furthermore, the teachers do not provide homework, or even extensive assignments, which means the students get used to slacking off and earning good grades for nothing. Definitely a wake up call for them when they switch schools! Additionally, this school does absolutely 0 prep for the state-issued ACT in their junior year. Please, save you and your student some money by sending them to a different school so they can earn scholarships! Second, Doral Academy has some of the worst teachers I have ever had to deal with. From teachers confiscating items for no reason, to being entirely unethical when it comes to punishment, this school is ran like a madhouse. I personally know of a student here who was publicly shamed (in front of their peers!) for breaking rules. They were placed in the middle of the room, while other students had the opportunity to laugh and poke fun at them. The teachers here are racist, rude and unnerving to talk to. PLEASE, save your students the trouble and do not send them here! Now, as a parent, you are thinking the exact same thing I was. You have heard good reviews, and you want to send your child here because it seems like a good high school experience. Do not be fooled. It is not. The school had no homecoming dance for incoming students, restricted and treated students like they were in elementary, and based all their punishments off of previous prejudice. It is absurd that this school has the rating that it does. They tried to implement a system of no cell phones during lunch for crying out loud! Absolutely absurd, please save yourself and your student the pain and move them to a different school for high school. Also, they have no real football team, and their basketball and soccer leagues are with other charters. I mean seriously, what high school have you seen that offers only flag football?? It's like they think the students are 6 years old! To conclude, this is quite possibly The worst school in the valley.
