Im surprise by No O's review. It smells a nit fishy. My kids had Ms. Jacobsen in 2 different occasions and I can assure you she will go above and beyond for her students. One of my kids had her for 4th and 5th and did not complain at all. both of my kids still keep in touch with Ms Jacobsen and will say that Ms Jacobsen is a strict teacher but she is also fair and caring. She will not allow disrespect in her class. The kids always had events going on like "Jeopardy" or the novels that se will read with them. When it comes down to bullying she does not let things get out of control. She makes her classroom a safe space for all of her students. If she sees the kids struggling she will make time to help them out. This school is a place that feels like a community. Mrs Vandervilt, Mrs Leong (no longer there), Mrs. Toland, Mr. Streater, Mr Zayas, Mrs Todd, Mr. Schenkberger, Ms Waffles, The principal and assistant principal as well as the ladies at the front are wonderful. The communication between the staff and parents is subpar especially if you're trying to get questions answered. If you have a son it will be hard for him because there's a lot of division between girls and boys, where girls are believed over the boys. I went to school here from 2008-2011 it was very traumatizing, the teachers were very cruel I remember feeling very alienated I was consistently screamed at, sent to the principals office, and humiliated in front of other students I didn't have the greatest experience attending and I see that the some of same staff members work here I wouldn't recommend this place everything about it still haunts me to this day read more

ok sooo I have good reason to write this review I am a student that graduated last year. 1 this school is terrible environment for development. I went in being scared to curse now I do it left and right. There was a lot of bullying too. at recess I played at the community where if you mess with, well, you get beat up. I'm a boy so it was a lot worse for me because for the girls were always nice to each other. Another thing is the segregation between boys and girl. The teachers at the school support boys vs girls and it was horrible. There was a good teacher I had and it was Mrs. Dworkin. the only problem with her is that when she smiled or laugh she would take a piece of paper and hide her face so we can't see her hav emotion. I decided to take my daughter out of Private school and came across Goolsby, seeing as it was in our neighborhood. I can't say enough good things about this school. My daughter checked out when she got to first grade, the private school she attended, we started to notice the teachers weren't wanting to help her get the guidance she truly needed, and you could tell they weren't motivating her, they simply wrote her off and had nothing but negative things to say. She was 6 and had 4 pages of homework a night! I am very thankful we are at Goolsby. The first day she had a huge smile on her face. We've been here about a year now, and her teachers and beyond involved, attentive and very caring toward my daughter. The staff alone is incredible. They also have many after school activities provided and care before and after school if needed. They are very involved in making their school number one and it shows. They have a blue ribbon in reading and writing, number one in the state, so that alone is impressive! They involve parents in everything and have so many fun nights out or events at school to involve us all. They have carnivals, snow cone trucks, charity events, and book fairs. My daughter is finally excited to go to school and loves to do homework again! Thank goodness!! Literally best school I've seen as a whole. They truly love what they do and their dedication and positive attitude shows they truly care about the students as well. I'll be keeping my daughter here from now on! This is my sons' 4th year here! He's ADHD & has a IEP. He has behavioral issues and was kicked out a couple years ago. I actually bought my home so my kids could go to this school! Rated #1 in Vegas with the highest test scores! Very small amount of high poverty kids. Very very clean & much support to many very on hands parents that volunteer so the teachers can TEACH! I'm reading about The principle and I have to disagree. She's wonderful. She's a hardass but my son needs that! She kicked my son out in kinder but he did threaten a child cus he's impulsive ( this was before his diagnoses) & regardless of it all it's about safety and I understand I don't have the perfect snowflake! The school is very under funded ... based on the fact it's in a wealthy area. Most parents make over $150k easily here. They assume you have tablets and computers at home. It is what it is. Not much funding goes back to goolsby it ends up going to other schools. Also from what I personally saw online all the teachers at goolsby has masters or been in the field long enough they are making easily close to 70k or more annually. The counselor is wonderful. Her name is Mrs. Tally. My son has been seeing her for 4 years! We adore her! My daughter is almost 2 & I can't wait for her to go to this school! I'm really shocked by the comments on here. I find it to be very opposite from my experience. Only downfall of goolsby is many snobby stay at home moms. Not all are mean but some were pretty rude to me when I volunteered (I'm a working mom) they were not very welcoming in the teacher's lounge and looked down at me ... very intimidating. They made me feel uncomfortable and not welcomed. Yet, that's probably their only time they feel super powerful and good for them! Anyone that volunteers at the school is being productive in my eyes! Oh one more thing! Ladies up front are all super sweet. My son is the hyper, class clown gets kicked out randomly due to his behaviors but they still are very supportive and understanding. I don't feel like a shitty parent. If anything I feel he gets a lot of support at that school! Teachers are wonderful too. read more

This is an amazing school! The teachers are so great. They always put the students needs first. I feel like my daughter is in a private school without paying the tuition. Every child is treated as an individual not just a numbered student. I've seen first hand how the teachers work with each and every student to help them out whether they are behind or ahead. If there are any concerns the doors to the teachers or principal are always open to discuss and resolve any issues. My daughter and I highly recommend this public school. I only wish they went up to the 12th grade. read more

If you have the option of sending your child elsewhere, please do !!! The principal of this school is obnoxious , and is the most heartless women I have ever met . As a parent we have to see things in a spectrum of colors , not just black and white . This women was very rude to me and was more aggravated she had to speak to me during her lunch break . My family and I have loved Goolsby elementary. We have had three kids in this school. Unfortunately the last year for our first grader. Miss Timpa has been such a fabulous teacher with our first grader. He has greatly improved with his reading and spelling. We appreciate all of Miss Timpa's continuous patience and guidance through the whole year. He is ready for second grade. She is the best. Janelle in the front office has always been considerate and helpful with all of our questions and needs. I have had a terrible experience with how the school administration handles situations. My son's 3rd grade teacher has made my child feel terrible about himself. She has told him that she is going to put him in the kindergarten class because he takes too long to complete assignments, and also tells the other students "I am so sick and tired of each and every one of you." Principal Cunningham is the rudest, most intolerant person I have met in a long time and told me this morning that since I don't seem to be happy with the school, I can take my son elsewhere for the last 2 weeks of school. Are you kidding me??!!! How is that effective? This school seems to only defend the teachers improper behaviors and doesn't want to do anything to help the students that need the extra help. They just want to send the students somewhere else instead of fixing the problem internally. Worthless administration. I'm sure there are lovely teachers and staff at this school, but if you happen to have a child that needs something more, they act like your child is such a bother to them. Don't expect them to work with you on an IEP either. I will be writing Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky about this. read more

We moved our kids from private school to Goolsby a year ago and couldn't be happier with the education, administration, teachers and community. Like all CCSD schools, Goolsby is ridiculously underfunded but it has an impressive parents association that helps bridge the financial gap. The parents are extremely active and supportive, both financially and in volunteer hours. The teachers who my kids have had have all been top notch and several have been the type of teacher you remember for a lifetime. Many hold a masters degree and have extensive experience. As for the principal, Mrs. Cunningham, I couldn't disagree more with the negative reviews above. Goolsby has the highest test scores in the county for several reasons, and a big part of it is Mrs. Cunningham's leadership and dedication. Whenever I am on campus she is racing around talking with staff, assisting students, addressing issues and by all appearance giving 110%. I'm pretty critical of anything having to do with my kids' education and I honestly have nothing but praise for her. read more
