Whether it has to do with education or healthcare (both of which were significantly better in Orange County). I enrolled my child at Shenker after talking to all the parents I would meet at the park in my neighborhood who would sing the school's praises. I am happy to say, Shenker lived up to my expectations. My child does not speak English as his primary language, and I was worried about how that would affect him. Also if I might add, I would get unsolicited comments from other educators concerning my refusal to speak English to my child at home. I am an educator ( I have a Masters in education and another Masters in school counseling) and I knew he would pick up English just as I did. Upon meeting with Dr. Sharon, he agreed with my approach concerning my son learning two languages, and put me at ease. My son has greatly improved academically and socially at Shenker. He is so happy to go to school, and everyone in the front office knows his name, as they do with ALL the students that attend their school. Dr. Sharon has truly been a joy to work with, and I see how much he cares for his staff and for his students at school. He knows every student's name and he works with every family to accommodate their needs. I honestly believe this school's success comes from the top down. The class was organized, communicative, and I felt so at ease knowing my baby was in their hands. Now he is in the Ducklings with Ms Alyssa and I can't say enough positive things about her and her teaching style. My son has learned so much going to this school even though he has only just turned two, he is counting past 10, reading letters, coming home with new learnings every day. We are excited to continue to watch him grow and develop at Shenker.

I truly hope the school reevaluates their approach to kids that are behind. Especially those with physical challenges that require more support. His current school, had an IEP in place within weeks of us moving here . He's had so much support and encouragement, and they've gone out of their way to catch him up. They also recognize that he has an extraordinarily high IQ and have gone out of their way to bring this out in him.. I hope the children at Vasiliadis get this approach in the future.

What I know for sure, is that he's eager to get up and out the door in the morning, and he always has a smile on his face when I pick him up at 3:15. That says it all. I know that he's safe, behind the guard gated, camera laden walls. He's fed well, with a kosher kitchen, hot meals, and fresh fruit available any time of the day. He is exposed to state-of-the-art technology in the incubator lab with 3-D printers, green screens, robotics, battle bot arena, computer lab, and more. The large indoor swimming pools are heated and utilized year round, starting as early as kindergarten in PE classes, and competitively starting in middle school. Other sports include tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, golf, baseball, wrestling, and cross country. (That's right, NO football!) The theater and music program is wonderful for kids that are interested in it, because there is less competition when it comes to getting parts, being that it is a smaller school. And now for education, he has homework almost every night which I think is great for reiterating what he's learned at school. He's a straight A&B student. I have access to all of his grades, homework assignments, and test scores through the Veracross website, so there are NO surprises at the end of the semester. Some of his absolute favorite teachers throughout the years have been Stacy Steele, Steven Paquin, Robin Oshins, Debby Levy, Jenn Nails, Christian Caramanica, and Liat Bodaker. I have heard people complain about the turnover rate, but it's because they do not give tenures at this school, which I believe helps keep the teachers on their toes, and allows the school to not hire them back if they are not a good fit.

From my first contact with the staff and administration, you could tell this place was about providing a nurturing and excellent environment to the children. This school really does foster diversity. It's not just words that are used in advertisement. They foster those values in the classroom and everyone is made to feel included in all they do. In short, they practice what they preach. The academics are excellent. I'm a believer in giving children a balanced learning environment. Hundreds of hours of homework does not make a child enjoy learning. I like that there is work time and play time appropriate for the age. And honestly, at these grade levels, too much homework equates to extra work for the parents. This school chooses an appropriate amount of work for each grade level. My son has thrived since moving to this school. FLA has been a true blessing to our family. My child's kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Margolis, was phenomenal. She was upbeat, professional, engaging, and it was obvious she genuinely cared about the students and loved teaching. Unfortunately, things have steadily gone downhill since then. First grade did not meet the expectations I had hoped for, but I never imagined the experience would decline this much. Mrs. Brown is honestly the worst teacher I have ever encountered. She has a very flat affect, lacks engagement with the students, and struggles to teach material in a way children can actually understand and retain. My child has consistently been an honor roll student, so this is not an issue of capability or effort. What has been equally disappointing is the lack of support from administration. The headmaster, Mrs. Johnson, is not approachable and appears completely uninterested in parent concerns or feedback. Attempts to communicate issues feel dismissed rather than addressed. It is incredibly disheartening to watch a school that once felt nurturing and academically strong become such a frustrating experience for both students and parents.

This school seems very advanced and up to date with their teachings and their technology. Since attending this school, I've noticed my child is a bit more advanced on the academic side compared to her other peers that go to regular in person public schools. Nothing against public schools, this school just works out for us as a family. This school uses real life scenarios in their quarterly projects. For example, they need to research about their dream vacation and how much it cost in real time and create a budget, etc. Surprisingly, as parents, after realizing her dream vacation was definitely more doable budget wise, we were able to actually take her on that dream vacation in less than a year's time.
