When you identify a problem...like having kids go inside their underwear waist...searching kids..no safety in this.. females doing searches on males..with no male present.. teachers having melt downs in their classrooms taking it out on children thru retaliation in grades, emails which are toxic coming from educators...The unfortunate thing is this school operates in dysfunction total chaos. Unable to articulate their own handbook..everything that looks gold ain't gold. A hall aide told me to shush when I was going to speak up about their outrageous unclear rules and directions. I paused and said to myself be quiet in astonishment...absolutely Not! I will call out every wrong intent or action. Nevertheless the uniform is the only nice thing. Its can be expensive for some. It doesn't actually match the school academics/substance. Parents save yourself the hassle and kids find a school that practice what they preach. Which have qualified teachers and administrators. Anyone can open a school...and not be an educator. I disapprove of this charter school 100%

Principal Gerry Born is the best principal ever! Very attentive and very engaging with both teachers, students and parents. The teachers are spectacular! They really care about educating the children. They make sure they make it a fun environment, so the children feel at ease. Making it easier for them to learn new information. This school seems very advanced and up to date with their teachings and their technology. Since attending this school, I've noticed my child is a bit more advanced on the academic side compared to her other peers that go to regular in person public schools. Nothing against public schools, this school just works out for us as a family. This school uses real life scenarios in their quarterly projects. For example, they need to research about their dream vacation and how much it cost in real time and create a budget, etc. Surprisingly, as parents, after realizing her dream vacation was definitely more doable budget wise, we were able to actually take her on that dream vacation in less than a year's time. It not only teaches the students, but every assignment and project teaches us as parents as well. We highly recommend this charter school.

From my first contact with the staff and administration, you could tell this place was about providing a nurturing and excellent environment to the children. This school really does foster diversity. It's not just words that are used in advertisement. They foster those values in the classroom and everyone is made to feel included in all they do. In short, they practice what they preach. The academics are excellent. I'm a believer in giving children a balanced learning environment. Hundreds of hours of homework does not make a child enjoy learning. I like that there is work time and play time appropriate for the age. And honestly, at these grade levels, too much homework equates to extra work for the parents. This school chooses an appropriate amount of work for each grade level. My son has thrived since moving to this school. FLA has been a true blessing to our family. I'm so happy we found this school and I'm forever grateful to all the teachers and administrative staff. My son once again has a love for school.

We are happy with the school and staff. Coming from the over-crowded, over-stretched public school system, we are relieved to see our children accepted and not just doing well, but thriving. The upper campus kids especially love the block scheduling, as they are able to truly get some valuable class time in each subject. The homework is a perfect blend of rehashing the days learning and getting prepared for the exams. The teachers actually get to know the kids since class size is never a problem. My 4th grader loves his teacher, and with that comes respect and a desire to be the best student he can become. And being a Christian school, the true focus is on a rounded and grounded Cristian education. As with all schools, there are mistakes that have been made, and there are the occasional small problem. But the difference is that the staff and leadership truly will try to correct them. A parent is always welcome to speak with any of the staff, and the superintendent holds monthly meetings where anyone can come and voice concern or praise. What more could a parent want?

My children have known nothing but Awaken Christian Academy (formerly Calvary Chapel Christian…read moreSchool). For many years, our family had wonderful experiences there. We built lifelong friendships, our children developed meaningful relationships, and at one time we enthusiastically recommended the school to others. Unfortunately, our perception of the school changed significantly during our children's middle school and high school years. While there were still several outstanding teachers who genuinely cared about students, many of those educators eventually left. In our experience, some of the replacements did not maintain the same level of quality, and several programs appeared to suffer from a lack of resources and investment. One ongoing concern for our family was the increasing tuition costs without a clear understanding of how funds were being allocated. Tuition increased regularly, yet many parents felt there was insufficient communication regarding the school's financial priorities and long-term plans. While Awaken often seemed to aspire to be viewed alongside schools like Faith Lutheran and Bishop Gorman, our experience was that the school was not providing the same level of programs, resources, or overall educational experience. When Mrs. Lehman became principal, we were hopeful. She had always demonstrated genuine care for students and families, and we believed she was committed to improving the school. Unfortunately, by that point significant challenges already existed, and it seemed she was placed in the difficult position of trying to reverse years of decline. I genuinely believe she cared about the students and was doing her best under very difficult circumstances. My greatest frustration was with the communication from school leadership and the school board. On multiple occasions, Fred Adams, who was presented as the head of the school board, held brief meetings where information was delivered to parents but questions were not taken directly. Parents were invited to submit questions beforehand, but not all concerns were addressed. I specifically asked about financial transparency and never received an answer. The format often felt one-sided, leaving families with more questions than answers. The most disappointing moment came when the decision was announced to close the high school. Parents were informed late in the enrollment cycle, after many charter school and specialized program application deadlines had already passed. For families who had invested years of time, money, and trust into the school, this created significant stress and uncertainty about our children's educational future. At the meeting announcing the closure, Fred Adams presented the financial realities facing the school and explained why the high school could not continue operating. After delivering the presentation, he left and directed questions to Mrs. Lehman. As a parent, that was frustrating. This was one of the most significant decisions in the school's history, and many families were looking for accountability and answers from the people responsible for making it. During that meeting, I spoke publicly and emotionally about the impact this decision would have on my family and many others. Afterward, Fred Adams did not approach me, and neither Pastor Derek nor his wife Rachel acknowledged my concerns. I remember seeing them nearby, yet there was no attempt to engage with families who were visibly upset by the announcement. As a parent who had trusted the school's leadership with my children's education for many years, that experience left me feeling unheard and unsupported. That moment fundamentally changed my view of the school's leadership. While others may have had different experiences, I came away believing that the concerns of families were not being given the level of attention, communication, and compassion that such a significant decision deserved. This review is difficult to write because our family genuinely loved this school for many years. We are grateful for the teachers, staff members, coaches, and friendships that positively impacted our children. Those individuals made Awaken special. However, in our experience, a lack of transparency, communication, accountability, and long-term planning ultimately contributed to the decline of a school that once meant so much to our family.

My daughter started at Brilliant Mont in preschool and grew beautifully through the years, wrapped in care, encouragement, and excellence. Every teacher she had played a role in shaping her, but it was Ms. Melissa in kindergarten who truly left a mark. The bond they built was so special. She showed up during a season when life wasn't easy. Her love and patience got us through a difficult time--we're forever grateful. She didn't just teach my daughter; she covered her in peace and gave her joy when things were uncertain. That's a gift you can't put a price on. From the ladies at the front desk to Mr. Alex at security--everyone at Brilliant Mont treats you like family. And I don't say that lightly. The love is real, the community is strong, and the environment is anointed. You feel safe, seen, and supported from day one. We're heartbroken to go, but so thankful to have been part of this amazing community. If you're considering a place where your child can grow not just academically but emotionally and spiritually too--this is the one. Brilliant Mont isn't just a school--it's a village. And for us, it'll always feel like home.
