a south asian dinner buffet is relatively rare, so thumbs up to kathmandu for providing AYCE yumminess to the boulder area. my friends and i were quite fond of the options, and each of us had at least three servings (it's a buffet, you best have at least 2 plates...), even those of us who normally have just one plate at buffets. everything was flavorful and spiced well, if not a little on the less spicy side (we like the spice!). the pakoras were particularly nice and crisp (they tend to be a bit soft/stale in buffets). service was great, and the selection plentiful. read more

This spot is a delightful. The atmosphere is quiet and interesting. Very large restaurant with plenty of tables. The service was kind and helpful. The samosa chat was delicious and full of tasty chickpeas. The chicken korma was good, but not amazing. Chicken vindaloo had great flavor and full of rich spices. Visited last Saturday after reading the reviews here. We had the buffet. The food was good with ample vegetarian options. The sweet potato masala was new to us and quite delicious. I'm a fan of the spinach paneer dish and the one here was a bit disappointing. Lots of spinach but little paneer. The rest of the food was good. I rated this a 4 star instead of 5 because of the comfort of the restaurant. It was a very hot Colorado day and the place felt too warm and none of the ceiling fans were on. My rating is more like a 2.5. Didn't feel like giving them a 2 for their service which was one of the only two things I liked about the place. The other one was their chai, which was delicious. We had dinner. The food was okay. We have better indian fare in town. We got the samosa chat for appetizer. It was quite bland. My husband digged it on the other hand. For me, It was quite flavorless. I ordered spinach platter with onion naan for my entree and my husband ordered tofu masala. We asked for medium spice but my spinach platter was very spicy. Also, the chili powder they mixed in to make it spicy was not mixed in well. Some bites of it was real spicy and the other bites were super spicy. The naan was not cooked well and was doughy. Tofu masala was much better than the spinach platter I ordered. It was quite tasty but spicy. Way more spicier than "medium" Portions were pretty big. The entree came with rice, salad and a dal soup. Also want to mention that both of us had an upset stomach and we think it was because of the spice level. I might give this place another try. I came here with two friends on a weeknight, and I thought they had the buffet (as said on the website) but it's only for lunch. We got a meat thali, chicken momos, and a lamb saag. The meat thali didn't include what it said it would include. The shrimp pakora was really delicious, freshly fried and hot. The sauce it came with was also really tasty and flavorful. I'm pretty sure there was a shrimp curry which wasn't on the menu and it was super tasty. There was also a lamb curry and chicken tikka masala, both of which were tasty. We upgraded the naan for garlic naan, and the naan was pretty flat and not chewy. We also didn't get any dal nor salad. The Chai tea was quite sweet as was the mango lassi. I wish we got a higher level of spice though, as we got medium spicy instead of hot. It was a ton of food, and we all really enjoyed it. The lamb saag was really tasty too, and the chicken momos came with a spicy thick sauce. The chicken momos were also delightfully curry-flavored inside, and the wrapping was chewy. We hung out there until they were closing, and we got up to pay. Service was quite nonexistent after getting served the food, and they didn't come check on whether we needed the check nor any to-go boxes. We did sit outside though so I'm not sure whether that made a difference. read more

Just note that some of the dishes are quite spicy so if you don't like spicy food, best to ask the wait staff before trying or just get a tasting and just come back for more. Back in my hometown, there are dozens of Indian/Nepalese buffets all over the place, so I've got an idea of what a good buffet looks like, and who's just trying to hit the bare minimum. Kathmandu is doing it right and then some. Every dish I tried (which was almost every one on the table, left completely stuffed) was delicious, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive (my water was always filled before I could even ask for more). Great spot for adventurous eaters, but they also have all the classics like butter and tandoori chicken, as well as fresh naan and samosas. No complaints, should be part of your regular post-covid rotation now that both the lunch and dinner buffets have re-opened! read more

Ordered to-go food during covid; totally seamless pickup, excellent food, and incredibly professional and kind staff. We got the vegetable korma, chana masala, garlic naan, and a mango lassi- the lassi was packaged with some Saran Wrap to keep the to-go container safe on the drive home and it worked beautifully! The lassi tipped over on the drive home but there was no mess at all. Can't wait to go back in person after the pandemic ends. read more

So the only thing I tend to eat anymore at indian restaurants is Chicken tikka or Butter chicken (if they carry it), so I get to use it as my gauge by which to test indian food. And the one thing I've seen about chicken tikka at Nepalese/Indian combo restaurants compared to straight Indian is that the spicing is more intense and slightly more varied at Nepalese places, and for me and Kathmandu that's a good thing. Their spicing was awesome- just the right amount of heat and goodness. It has a lot more ginger and generally just a broader flavor spectrum than regular indian. The other thing I test a place by is the tandoori chicken quality and tenderness, and Kathmandu's was off the charts. The nan was disappointing however- it clearly had been reheated and was oily and gummy. Also, we got our order to go and they gave us rice pudding- it was good but then there was a wholly unidentifiable item in the rice pudding, so we tossed it and that was a disappointment. The prices are a little higher than Jaipur, our other favorite Indian in Boulder. But I'll definitely be back for the spicinginess. ;) read more
