This place is off the chain great. I love coming here on rainy days, the interior is dark and cozy, the food spicy and rich. The service is good. The price keeps most of the younger college crowd moving down the road. On Saturdays you can find them at a stall at the Davis Farmer's Market as well. Hands down best Indian food in Davis!!! There curry is amazing. Tikka Masala is delicious, so is the vindaloo. They will ask you how spicy to make the vindaloo which is nice, since they usually make it mild for customers...they will make it hot, if you ask (after a friendly warning) also, the nann bread is fresh. Went here for buffet on Sunday and I thought i read on their ad in the little green machine coupon book, they do buffets everyday...they do not do buffets on Sundays. Kathmandu Kitchen often does groupon deals and has Ads in the local coupon book, which makes going here often possible. Without the discounts, they are a little pricey. read more

Love this place for Indian food ! They have a great lunch buffet with a discount for students. Also great deals on Groupon. There are many times when I have placed an order by phone while in school and after finishing my classes I have taken out the food. The food is great too, the spice level might be a bit mild but then that's with pretty much all the restaurants in Davis. First of all, I love there food. I always love go dining in their place so in a day like today, when I am really ill, I was trilled to use there delivery service for the first time. And I decided to never go back. As soon as I got a delivery, I unpacked all the foods and start eating. When I saw their Chicken Tikka Masala and there was no chicken visible, I only thought it was because they are sunk in the bottom. But later, when I was dipping my spoon in to the Chicken Tikka Masala for a chicken, I figured out that there is NO CHICKEN in it. I decided to just dump some chicken breast into it by myself because I already started to eat Chicken Tikka Masala and I know this things could happen in busy time of the restaurant. And I decided to call restaurant to let them know that there was no chicken and it is okay this time. But the "BOSS" called me and saying that there is no mistake and they get so many miss accusation. Really? Why I would lie about it when I do not want any refund or new food? Even though I was keep inform him that I do not want anything from this call, he was keep saying HE COUNTED THE CHICKEN... Hope he knows how to count. I've eaten their food both at the restaurant as well as from their stand at the Davis farmer's market. Both are very good, but the food from this restaurant at the farmer's market is a better deal. Most of the food is not-very-spicy Indian but there is also some very good Nepali food. At the sit-down restaurant I had a very good vegetable momo with several side dishes, and beer, for $22 total including tip. They were very good about splitting a group bill (4 people) into individual bills -- rare for restaurants in the U.S. and much appreciated. read more

One of my favorite Indian food places, and certainly my favorite in davis. The makhani is great, as are the vegetarian samosas.

Favorite restaurant in Davis. The service is always exceptionally good. One waitress seems to always be there when we are, and has always done a fantastic job making sure we are happy and satisfied with out food. Also, they are wise to realize that they are serving Indian food, and thus promptly come by to refill our water glasses whenever it gets close to being empty. The food is delicious, we 'shopped' around other Indian restaurants in Davis, but found that no one's food stacks up to Kathmandu Kitchen. Crispy samosa, delicious naan, and great curry dishes. Everyone will find a favorite dish eventually, and we can't help but order the same thing time and time again even though we know there are probably other great, undiscovered options to choose from. As an added bonus, full bar and a happy hour until 6. Never had a wait for a table, and atmosphere has always felt private and comfortable enough to go on dates there. read more

Lately the reviews have been terrible because I heard the ownership has changed. It's been a year or so I believe. The four star reviews were based on the previous owners. I have been dining at Kathmandu Kitchen in Davis for many years, but since the ownership change, their food hasn't been the same. I ordered the Chicken Korma and I found a cockroach in my dish. YUCK!!!!!!!!!! I let my waittress know and she was very rude about it and didn't even show up to my table the rest of the evening. Later I found they even had a health inspection too where they had to close down the place for a couple of days due to nasty cockroaches and unhygienic practices. I am never going there again. Try Kathmandu Kitchen in Sacramento, it's the same owners who started the business many many years ago and I've never had a problem with them. read more

I was visiting a friend in Davis and we decided to go get something to eat around 9. Spontaneously we decided to go into this restaurant because the smells were oozing onto the street and it enticed us to go in and try their food. We walked in there was one table in the place but that was understandable because it was about 9:15-9:30 at this point. There hours said they were open until 10. Anyhow we walked in and were totally ignored by an older indian man that was standing behind the bar listening to something on his phone at FULL volume. Honsetly I wasn't surprised he didn't notice us come in because how could he when his phone was so loud...very weird and unprofessional! Finally once he noticed us he came over stone faced and asked if wanted take out. We said we wanted to dine in and apparently he didn't like that because he gruffly grabbed menus and motioned for a table not saying anything but his body language clearly gave us the impression he did not want to deal with us. I felt like I was in an alternate universe! This guy was obviously done for the night and didn't want anymore customers there. I ordered tikka masala and samosas both were outstanding! Throughout our entire meal this man continued to watch his phone at an obnoxious volume with no regard for the fact that there were customers trying to enjoy themselves and didn't want to listen to whatever yelling was coming from his device. Not to mention the death STARES he was giving us! Finally before we were even done he brings our check without us asking and says they are closing soon and he has been there all day. I looked at my clock to see if we had accidently stayed past 10 - which is when they close- but it was only 9:55. The food was great but I can not give this place a good recommendation because of the atrocious service that we received. read more

What an awesome place! Picnic Day night + downtown Davis= chaos. My friend and I decided to look for a place to eat amongst the craziness and it seemed hopeless! Thank goodness we were able to find this gem! The decor is surprisingly classy and you get seated right away. The waitress was super nice! We ordered the combo platter and the lamb masala (spicy). Both came in big portions and after being super full, we still had a ton of leftovers. The combo plate is an absolute must because it comes with a bunch of tasty appetizers (naan bread, deep fried shrimp and chicken, dumplings, and some pork?) and four different dipping sauces (the green basil sauce was the best!) We barely touched the lamb masala because the combo plate was so filling. The wine was okay, came luke warm but still good. Really great prices for the amount of food you get and the service made my dining experience all the more memorable. So if you're ever in downtown and feel like something different from the usual burgers etc, try this place out! Even if you don't think you'll like Indian food, the combo plate is soo worth it! =) read more

I've been to Kathmandu Kitchen at least 10 times, but what finally pushed me to write a review was their online ordering and free delivery to anywhere in Davis. After a hard day of skiing, the bf and I got home and it took no less than a flier in the mailbox to get us both craving Kathmandu. When I saw they would deliver to us in South Davis, and for free, they had us. The whole menu is online, you can just put items into your cart (and specify how spicy you want the entrees), and build your order. They call to confirm and you can add any coupons you might have. So awesome! I have also been to their lunch buffet a half dozen times and always leave happy and stuffed. Gone there for dinner with a huge group, too, and they are so accommodating always. Will split checks however you want without a problem. I'd have to say they are one of my favorite restaurants in Davis and I have never been disappointed. read more
