This rating is only regarding the esthetician, Skin Care By Cathleen. Let me qualify this review by the fact that I have had one facial in my life and it was not a pleasant experience. However, as I get more mature, I am more and more concerned about my skin. Based on the personal recommendation of a friend, I bought a Groupon so I could give the service a try. Another review on Yelp mentioned the fact that you contact the esthetician personally to make an appointment. I didn't find this strange in the least. I have several friends that have been communicating with stylists and other service professionals for YEARS by text message. I think it's a great feature to be able to get a text confirmation of an appointment or to make appointment changes by text. When I contacted Cathleen by text, she responded promptly and we arranged an appointment. Having only experienced one bad facial, I did a web search to learn what I should expect from a quality facial. I found a great article at http://spas.about.com/od/massage/a/whatisafacial.htm that answered a lot of my questions. On the day of the facial, I arrived on time and was greeted promptly by Cathleen. She happily took my list of medications and skin care products and gave me a pretty little form to fill out. The salon was cute and well-decorated and the spa room where I had my service was pretty and relaxing, even down to the music. Cathleen did everything the article mentioned, from talking to me about my concerns, medications (like how the hormones in my birth control pill affected my skin), skin type, and lifestyle. She examined my skin and tailored the facial just for me. She was friendly and I genuinely enjoyed chatting with her. She answered my many inane questions about what she was doing. She took her time and did things WELL. That attention to detail could be why my appointment time started about 10 minutes late, but this didn't seem unusual to me after years visiting hair stylists and massage therapists. She also told me that I was doing a great job with my skin care regiment and didn't try to sell me any products. This was a pleasant surprise since salons and spas tend to make a lot of money on products. Cathleen was running a post-groupon promotion for a small discount if you pre-booked your next appointment, so I booked my next facial thinking that if I had a bad reaction or my skin looked horrible in the next week that I could cancel it. I did not cancel it. The next day my skin tone was incredibly even and smooth-looking and I didn't even have to wear foundation to work! Pros: - Relaxing experience - Immediate skin improvements - High quality of service - Knowledgeable esthetician - could confidently answer all my questions - Great salon/spa atmosphere Cons: - The location off Clays Mill is a little inconvenient, especially if your appointment is near the time schools let out - Extractions are not fun, but I suppose it's better to be done by a professional and I was surprised at how many blackheads I had Overall, I enjoyed the experience/results and will continue to get a facial by Cathleen on a regular basis. read more

I'm a former "Posh" then "Planet Salon" client (both for several years) and was in need of another stylist/colorist (are drugs just a natural part of that environment?). I took a chance on a Groupon and found Daffney Banta and it has been the BEST Groupon I've bought yet! Not only is she personable, she KNOWS color and corrected what my former stylist/colorist at Planet Salon "created". She has become my new "Go-To Girl" for hair, and I've sent several friends her way. She's great with working around your schedule (extremely flexible)! By the way-there's also a small playroom behind her styling station for kids to play in or watch televistion while mom (or dad) get their treatments. I thought this was a great idea for people with children. I recommend this salon above the "big name" salons any day. The extra money you pay the "name brand" salons don't go for high end training, and you'll come out looking like a victim of an acid trip. Trust me on this. read more

This rating is only regarding the aesthetician... I received a Groupon facial as a gift and it only included the phone number for the aesthetician (Cathleen) directly so I assumed that she was an independent contractor there. I had to leave her two voice messages before she called me back several days later...stating that she was having issues with her phone. I finally got my appointment booked for 6pm yesterday and at 6:20ish she was still not there, I started getting worried. I called and texted before asking for someone to check the schedule to verify that I was on the scheduled. The girl at the front desk was very nice, verified my appointment in the computer but wasn't able to get in touch with Cathleen either. I left at the salon at 6:30. On my way home (on the opposite side of town) I received a text back from Cathleen stating that she thought that she had left me a message to attempt to reschedule but now realizes that she transposed my number.... This morning I called the salon owner (Stephanie) and addressed the issue. She was extremely nice and understanding and apologetic and confirmed that the stylists basically rent the spaces there at the salon. I hate to leave a rating knowing that it will reflect the salon but I think that other people reading through the reviews and pondering using the same service should be aware of my experience. read more

This place just opened but I have to say the girls that work there are super sweet and know what they are doing! If you want your hair done, Stephanie definitely knows what she is doing and gives you that sexy hair. Cathleen knows how to make you feel relaxed and pampered! To have a facial from her is the best I have had in a long time! Plus, they have something that no where else in town has a kids playroom!!!!! I can bring my kids get my hair done or a facial and I know my kids are fine and I don't have to pay a sitter or wait for my husband or family member to watch them. My kids have a great time watching movies and drawing on the chalkboard painted wall or playing with any of the other toys they have there. read more

I got a Groupon for a cut with Kenzie and it was the best cut I've had! I'll have to get my hair cut every time I come to Lexington. She was very friendly, the salon was warm and welcoming, and it was totally worth it. I have pretty long hair and she was able to shampoo and do a great cut in under an hour. Okay, so I recently just moved to Lexington from Chicago, and back home I had being see the same stylist for quite some time (thanks to grouping for introducing me to her) and same goes for this stylist. When I walked into Kasa I loved the decor, simple yet chic look and the friendliness from the stylist. When I say in the chair, I'm not going to lie I was crazy nervous, I think most anyone would be? I mean, hello! Someone you've never even MET before is just doing your hair and not to mention its with a Groupon. Well, Michelle is FABULOUS- she listened to what I wanted, I showed a picture of how I wanted my hair color and did just that. I told her I wanted lots of layers and a side sweep bang, everything she did was above and beyond fantastic. She and I clicked pretty much instantly and I'm so incredibly thankful to have found a new stylist in a new city where I don't know anyone at all. I've been to Kasa Salon a few times and each time has been great. I saw Daffney both times and wouldn't even think about going to another salon due to bad experiences. Daffney is extremely easy to get along with and gives you what you ask for. She is very precise and makes sure you are satisfied with your service, even giving a 7 day come back window for free is something isn't working out. If you need something done immediately, there may be times you can't get in, but both times I've went she has contacted me letting me know an earlier slot has opened up if I wanted to come in earlier. Stylish, knowledgable, and friendly is how I would describe this salon! I've used box color on my hair for years and recently decided I'd like to go back to my natural. I have been seeing Daffney Kasa Salon for years now. I don't trust anyone else with my hair and never will again after many other bad experiences. I have never once even told her what to do with my hair. I just sit down and trust that she will make it look fabulous. She picks my color and cut for me and she nails it every time! She is very friendly and she cares about what's going on in your life beyond the salon. Not to mention, she's hilarious and cracks me up every time I sit down in her chair. It makes a long hair session fun and it breezes by quickly. True, she's booked and hard to get in with, but she SHOULD BE! AND...she squeezes me in if I have something important at the last minute I need help with. I'll give you two great examples. One...I'm a published author, and when I needed my hair done for my first author bio photo shoot, she squeezed me in the very next day after I called her and my bio shots are AMAZING, thanks to her! I get compliments on my hair all the time. Two...tonight was my daughter's first prom. We procrastinated and waited until the last minute to ask her to do her hair for prom. BUT, she once again found the time to do my daughter's hair beautifully for prom. The picture on this post shows the back of her hair. It's hard to see, but TRUST ME, she did an amazing job! Bottom line is, if you're looking for a hairdresser that is skilled, sweet, and fun to be around, Daffney is who you want! She's well worth the wait. Side, note...Kasa Salon is also a very pretty, well-maintained salon with gorgeous décor and a very friendly staff of highly-trained and professional ladies who are helpful and kind, even if you're not there to see them.
