This salon is a gem! I've been to so many top salons ranging in location from New York to Chicago to DC to Indy and I can honestly say that Rosa, the store owner is magic! I'm very picky about my hair color and she was able to duplicate exactly what I wanted by pictures and looking at skin tone and eye color. My highlights and color is so on trend and make me feel like a million bucks! Additionally, the salon pampered me to the max. Not only did I get a head and neck massage before highlights were applied, but during the salon washing process I got an amazing head and shoulder rub and hand massage with essential oils. I was also sitting on a massage chair with my eyes covered and a warm pillow on my chest. It was so cozy and snuggly and extremely relaxing! The staff is also amazing and super sweet, along with Rosa. I'm so happy I found this place! If you are very finicky with hair color definitely go here! I have to admit, I'm not an avid salon-goer. So, going to a salon doesn't happen often and even the thought of getting my hair cut makes me nervous. I kept seeing reviews posted about this place and finally, in July I decided to see what all of the hype was about, so I peeped around online. The scheduling process is super easy online, although I don't think all of the stylists are listed. So, if you're wanting a specific stylist and they're not listed as available online, call. The day of my appointment I received a call indicating that Jessica, the stylist that I had scheduled was ill. They offered for me to see Sarom who turned out to be less expensive than the one who I'd initially scheduled. Score! I must mention that even though the cut was cheaper, Ms. Sarom wasn't less than amazing. I'm jumping ahead. It's located in the Chevy Chase area, in the same strip as Starbucks. So, parking could be an issue, but I've always been able to score a spot in the lot in front when I patronize the businesses in that strip mall of sorts behind Louie's Wine Dive. When I checked in, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered warm tea, which just so happened to be fantastic and made the short wait worth the while. So, skip Starbucks before your appointment. As I sat and waited, I noticed Sarom taking her time with the client before me. It was nice to see that she wasn't rushing like other stylists in some of my other previous experiences. I didn't know that she was my scheduled stylist, so that was a welcomed surprise when she introduced herself after she finished up. This is one of the few Aveda featured salons in Lexington. Apparently, all of the locations start with a mini hand and neck massage before your cut. Speaking of my cut, it was perfect and exactly the way that I requested it to be cut. I'd go again. Lacking transparency in pricing. Expensive but the hairdresser can hardly c. Slow service as an attempt to create an illusion of luxury treatment. Offering "free" hand massage, eye mask, etc, but don't be naive: everything has been priced in. Will not recommend. In response to the owners' comment on pricing practice: please provide a quote at the time of the appointment and don't increase the price by $25 for the same service for no reason provided. Giving the price on a piece of paper AFTER the customer already invested time to visit and sat in a chair is not q good pricing strategy. I asked the hairdresser to cut in a certain way and her response is nothing can be done. I have had other hairdressers being able to cut the way I requested, so it is not impossible. She just cannot or will not offer it. The extra "luxury" service (eye mask, hand masses) is probably appreciated by some customers. I am simply expressing my thoughts: for the price paid, I would rather get better haircuts than receiving the extra service that I did not ask. I appreciate the quick response. It is not easy being a business owner and you obviously care about the feedback. But my experience was as described. read more

I am an Aveda salon loyalist and called SimplyBlue frantic after a highlight/lowlight/toner gone bad at another Aveda salon here in town. Even though the other salon told me there was nothing to be done and they could not fix it Simply Blue was willing to do what they could to help. I found Simply Blue on Yelp after moving to Lexington from Wisconsin. I've since moved to Minnesota, but I miss Simply Blue so much that I felt the need to leave a review! I saw Hannah for partial highlights and cuts about 3-4 times over the course of the year. She hit the nail on the head every single time! Her highlights were consistently blended, soft, and natural looking and resulted in a ton of depth and dimension. In terms of the salon in general, Simply Blue is the best salon experience I have ever had. Every encounter with Hannah and several front desk receptionists were friendly, helpful, and warm and welcoming. Every service starts with aromatherapy and a head and neck massage. The room where you get your hair washed is dark and spa-like with calming instrumental music playing. Your chair has a heating pad and you get a chest compress, eye mask, and hand and arm massage during your wash. I recently visited a new Aveda salon near me expecting a similar experience to Simply Blue, but I was let down. The salon was bright, loud, and had zero spa/relaxing elements. Lesson learned: not all Aveda salons are created equal! The experience and service you get at Simply Blue is unmatched. My sister is moving to West Virginia later this year and I am seriously considering taking a detour to Lexington so I can see Hannah! read more

I have not had a haircut in three years. As a result, my hair was crazy long and desperately in need of styling. I have tried a few other stylists in Lexington with mixed results, so I decided to try someone new this time. So, I turned to Yelp. I found Simply Blue just by checking out highly rated salons on Yelp. And I was not disappointed at all in Simply Blue. I made an appointment online with Rosa. The online appointment process was very quick and easy. I was even able to prepay through PayPal, which made it really easy when the day of my appointment came. I arrived a few minutes early, and was led to a seating area and offered coffee or tea. When it was my turn, Rosa welcomed me (knowing it was my first visit) and was very thorough in her consultation with me. She showed me pictures of what she was thinking, and took the time to look at the picture I brought as well. I felt very comfortable with leaving the massive change that was about to happen to my hair in Rosa's hands as soon as I met her. After the consultation, she gave me a neck and head massage using aromatherapy oils, which helped to put me at ease. Then, she cut off about 11" of hair, and banded it up to send in for donation. She did most of my cut with my hair dry, which was different for me, but worked well since I am very happy with the result. Then, she shampooed my hair...this is why I cannot wait to return. I got an eye mask and a weighted "bib" to relax me. The seat gave me a very nice back massage. Not only did she massage my head again while shampooing, but while the conditioner was settling in, she gave me a hand massage as well. I was so relaxed when she was done that I wasn't sure I could walk back to the chair. But, I did, and she finished up the cut and dried and styled my hair. She even gave me a little makeup to make the reveal all that much more exciting. I cried when I saw how good I looked. It was an amazing experience all around, and well worth every penny I paid for it. I highly recommend Simply Blue and Rosa. Update to 04/03/17 Within a day of writing the review of my first appointment at Simply Blue, Rosa called me to ask if Simply Blue could make things right. Given that I'd just had my hair redone, we had to wait until yesterday (06/09/17) for a follow up appointment. Yesterday, Rosa re-colored and highlighted my hair and did an awesome job. The color blends with my base really well, and the new highlights continued to break up the banding I mentioned in my first review. My husband loves it, and I'm very grateful that Rosa did all the things that a good business owner does to make sure the client is satisfied. Can I give this place 10 stars? Seriously so happy with the service I was given and I cannot wait to be back. I have been looking to switch salons for a while now and I finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I made an appointment online for Saturday morning on New Year's Eve and it worked out perfectly. Once I arrived and got checked, the front desk girl took my coat and offered me a drink. Once it was time for my appointment I was escorted over to a salon chair and was given a neck and shoulder massage. After that we went over to get my hair washed and I got to sit in a heated massage chair while I got my hair washed and scalp massaged. All while this was happening I had a scented eye pillow and chest pillow on. To add EVEN MORE to the relaxation a different girl came over and gave me a hand massage and lip scrub. I was in disbelief at how great it was-and I hadn't even gotten my hair cut yet!! So after that I went over to my stylist, Jordan. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and styled it perfectly. While she was finishing up curling my hair after having blown it out the front desk girl came over and recommended a lip gloss that perfectly matched the matte lipstick I was wearing. I am rarely compelled to take the time to write a review of any business but my experience at Simply Blue spa in Chevy Chase neighborhood a few weeks ago has been gnawing away at me that I should take a few minutes and record my experience. I had trepidation going in to Simply Blue I have to admit. It looks fancy and lies in the middle of Chevy Chase so I feared it would be a typical snooty and pretentious salon but I was in need of a good hair cut for my unruly curly hair. Kelsey, one of the stylists immediately greeted my with a bubbly inviting hello and thus began my decent into an hour of true salon bliss. Simply Blue is an Avada salon first and foremost. I personally love their products and if you are familiar with the product, the SMELL of an Avada salon is wonderful in itself. Kelsey sat me in her chair and listened to my curly hair dilemma and offered suggestions without being pushy or dismissive. She was training another stylist and seemed to be very knowledgeable but never made me feel like I was being ignored. While she washed my hair she placed what I can only describe as an aromatherapy warming pad? over my chest and massaged my head, shoulders and face for what seemed like forever. AWESOME. The haircut was great and she really took the time to explain to the trainee why her technique works for curly hair without leaving me out. She went out of her way to include me in the conversation, and kept it personalized to me and my experience. She took the time to let it dry a bit to see how it would lay in its curly state and then went further and blew it out so I could see how it looked straight. She explained all of the relevant products in their line and even gave me several samples to try without ever being pushy or pretentious. They are amazing. The salon offers all the hair salon needs you would ever require as well as nails, waxing and they even have a make up line. Amazing. Kelsey is WONDERFUL! I was visiting Lexington and had some unexpected time available, so I called to see if there were any openings that day. The receptionist, who I later found out was the owner, squeezed me into her schedule after finding out I was just visiting for a few days and had an impromptu chance for a haircut. How nice was that, points scored there before even setting foot in the salon! Simply Blue is an Aveda Salon, so immediately upon arrival you are greeted with that wonderful, all natural, plant scent and an offer for herbal tea. The experience I had in an unknown random salon was as nice as if I had been a long time loyal customer. My hair cut was well done and updated my look entirely. This salon manages to feel pampering without being overly pretentious which is hard to fine! I had my hair cut by Rachel and I felt that her prices were fair and she did a great job. I like Aveda products and appreciated that everything they used smelled really good and my hair felt great afterwards. They advertise including a neck and hand massage with every hair cut, which sounds amazing, but the reality is pretty underwhelming. The neck massage is a couple of minutes and fairly minimal, but does feel nice. The hand massage is really just an assistant smoothing a little bit of lotion on your hands during your shampoo. Not bad, but definitely not a massage. If you modify expectations a little from what is advertised, I'd be surprised if anybody was disappointed with their experience here. read more

The quality of the haircuts/styling is decent, but very poor customer service at check-in/scheduling. For the third time it felt like I was a nuisance to the receptionist as I walk in and try to schedule an appointment. Additionally, the stylists keep quitting or being fired, so it's hard to have the same person cut your hair every time. Will not be returning. read more

This place is nice to look at but pricing is very shady. I had to pay a $100 deposit to book an appointment. That was fine. Get there and they tell me I'd have to buy two bowls of hair color!!!! Went along because I knew I'd lose my $100 deposit if I refused. Said the $100 deposit would go towards it. Wrong again. They appeared to do everything right, however, what they showed and what was received were no where close to the same. My charge at end of treatment was $400!!!!!!!!! Who wants to spend $400 on hair color that's only a couple shades different than where I started. I was shocked and appalled. I wasn't given anything on paper showing how much they charged. I wasn't even given a receipt for my $400 payment. Maybe if you're just getting a trim it's worth it but $400 for what I got was a joke. I won't recommend this place to anyone simply because they are SO overpriced. Maybe it's only for rich people but it doesn't say very expensive anywhere that I could find. Live and learn on my part but this place is overrated and overpriced. Hair was a couple shades lighter on ends but I had better color done for half that price elsewhere. Really chose this place because of location so I'll definitely do more research next time. If you're on a budget I wouldn't go to Simply Blue. read more

I went for highlights, cut, and brow wax. I was very disappointed in my experience. I have been to multiple Avesta salons and this was by far the worst. Small complaint first- the chest pad they use during the wash was not warmed at all. That's not a huge deal, but the color of my hair was terrible! For reference, I am blonde. I asked to go a little lighter with a little ash. When I was finished I looked like I had grey hair with pink/purple around my face. I commented on the purplish tint and was told it was because of the ash she put in and it was reflecting the warm base I had. She said if it didn't go away in a few days to call back. Well I went home and washed myself and still purple and very gray. So the next day I called back and they said to come in that afternoon. When I went back I left looking even worse. My hair was white and orange and yellow. It was horrendous! I went straight to the grocery store to buy a box of hair color to try to remedy the awful situation as much as possible. My hair looks better with the $12 box of color than the $300 job a professional stylist did. To say I am pissed is an understatement. The only positive at this place is that my hair cut turned out fine. The brow wax was ok, but I still had to pluck when I left. This place is not worth the money AT ALL! I have contacted the store through email and we will see if they try to right the situation at all, but I really don't trust anyone there to touch my hair anymore. Edited to add: I met with Rosa the owner and she was lovely and very apologetic. I was given a refund and product to help strengthen my hair which I very much appreciate. I had a relaxing and amazing appointment at this salon. The moment you walk in, you're greeted warmly and offered a beverage and a cozy place to sit and relax. After a consultation with my stylist, I was given a neck and shoulder massage and the pampering didn't end there. The seats for a hair wash are comfortable with a heated lower back pad and massaging rhythm. A warm face mask covered my eyes as my hair was washed, conditioned, and massaged and I received a relaxing hand and arm massage (all complimentary). My stylist, Rosa, listened carefully to my request for a cut and did an excellent job. It's wonderful to have someone actually listen to my needs and execute perfectly. Update.. My daughter used my $150 gift certificate to get her hair highlighted, trimmed and her eye brows waxed. They did partial highlights, trimmed her hair and no eyebrow wax and it cost her $235 to walk out the door. I've had my hair done in NYC in a top salon and it didn't cost this much. They need a reality check because their prices are ridiculous for Lex. If you like spending your money on sub par service that's WAY OVERPRICED then go here. read more

This was probably the best haircut experience I have ever had! For $25 I felt so pampered with a massage, shampoo, and they style your hair! Hannah was a great stylist and really listened to my vision and added her professional opinion and it ended up being exactly what I was looking for!
