I wanted to come back and update my review because the owner of NYC Sugaring reached out to me…read moreright away and asked me to come in so she could take a look and figure out what happened. After going in, we were able to determine that what I experienced was actually an allergic reaction--not a burn. It turns out my skin was already irritated because I had gone a long time between services and my hair was thicker/longer than usual. On top of that, a healing balm was used that I had never had before, and my skin reacted badly to it. So to be clear--this was not due to the technique, the sugarista, or the business itself. They handled the situation very professionally. I was refunded for my visit and they also provided me with a complimentary service. I went back for a lip sugaring without the healing balm, and everything was perfectly fine. I really appreciate how quickly and seriously the owner addressed this and took the time to figure it out. Going forward, I'll just be avoiding the healing balm, but I will continue to return as a client.

Please read the entire review!…read more I tried sugaring today. When I first walked into Sugaring NYC, I absolutely loved the spa aroma and perfectly pink interior. I am all about pink, and the theme was executed pink-tactically! Now... What is sugaring, you ask? Waxing and sugaring are basically the hair-removal version of "pick your poison." Waxing is like ripping off a Band-Aid, except instead of a Band-Aid, it's a layer of hot goo that yanks out your soul along with your hair. Sugaring, on the other hand, sounds sweet and innocent--like a dessert for your skin--until you realize it's just melted sugar turning into medieval torture taffy. Either way, you're paying someone to make you question your life choices while they assure you, "This will get easier!" (It doesn't.) My aesthetician, Brooke, was the nicest person I've ever met in a waxing establishment. While sugaring was not for me, she switched to wax halfway through without hesitation, and the wax was much better. Actually, the wax was much better than the other chain establishments I've visited in Lexington. 10/10 for wax! Sugaring will 100% be something you have to try for yourself - on a poll to my girlfriends, it was a 50/50 split. While sugaring was not for me - I will not hesitate to come back to Sugaring NYC and book a wax with Brooke! #WaxGirl #SugarCoatedLies #SweetButPsycho #SugarAintSweet #LeaveTheSugarForTheCookies

I've used Anne's "services" for about a year now. When I first started going to see her, she was located in a nearby spa/salon. I like this location much better. Anne is a nurse and is very professional. She is originally from California and is a Yelper herself. The first time that I went to see her I had a lot of questions and I was quite nervous. I think that she spent about an hour explaining the process and the expected results. She also does laser hair removal and I think that the price is the most reasonable in town. There is another lady at this location, her name is Susan, she does the spray tans, facials and more of the spa end of the business. I've never used her services, but my friend raves about her... so she's definitely on my radar. If you're thinking about starting what I call maintenance, this place is the best of the best.

I kept seeing reviews posted about this place and finally, in July I decided to see what all of the hype was about, so I peeped around online. The scheduling process is super easy online, although I don't think all of the stylists are listed. So, if you're wanting a specific stylist and they're not listed as available online, call. The day of my appointment I received a call indicating that Jessica, the stylist that I had scheduled was ill. They offered for me to see Sarom who turned out to be less expensive than the one who I'd initially scheduled. Score! I must mention that even though the cut was cheaper, Ms. Sarom wasn't less than amazing. I'm jumping ahead. It's located in the Chevy Chase area, in the same strip as Starbucks. So, parking could be an issue, but I've always been able to score a spot in the lot in front when I patronize the businesses in that strip mall of sorts behind Louie's Wine Dive. When I checked in, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered warm tea, which just so happened to be fantastic and made the short wait worth the while. So, skip Starbucks before your appointment. As I sat and waited, I noticed Sarom taking her time with the client before me. It was nice to see that she wasn't rushing like other stylists in some of my other previous experiences. I didn't know that she was my scheduled stylist, so that was a welcomed surprise when she introduced herself after she finished up. This is one of the few Aveda featured salons in Lexington. Apparently, all of the locations start with a mini hand and neck massage before your cut. Speaking of my cut, it was perfect and exactly the way that I requested it to be cut. I'd go again. Maybe next time I'll have less anxiety about it.
