We have three dogs, all rescues with their own past drama. The newest of the bunch was causing chaos in our house and we desparately needed help. We refused to give up on the new guy, but life was rough (ruff wouldv'e been preferred - ha!). We opted for 5 days of reverse boarding and our trainer was Sammi. She was a great addition to the family for those 5 days. Things aren't perfect - but she helped highlight some of the behaviors we were exhibiting that added to the problem. She also spent time with all three pups to train them some important basics and get them used to taking instruction. There's a lot of hard work ahead of us still, but we have the tools now. We have been going to Karma and working with Sammi for a couple months now and our experience has been great. The puppy socialization classes have been amazing for teaching the basics and allowing the pup to make friends and learn to play properly. We also grabbed two reverse board and train packages with Sammi to work on our dogs fear of neighborhood walks, reactivity, and excessive barking. We have made quite a bit of progress with Sammi's help. She has been so helpful increasing our Puppy's confidence and giving us the tools and advice to continue to improve in the areas he has been struggling. The barking indoors is now about 90% under control and his fear outside has improved quite a bit. Her knowledge, her demeanor, how she interacted with our pup and how well the pup responded to her was great. I can not say enough for Sammi and to thank her for all her help so far. It's hard to recommend taking Karma's puppy class. It wasn't particularly well run, and the benefit for my puppy was dubious at best. In the several weeks I attended, Karma did nothing to segregate small dogs from big dogs. The big dogs that would attend stretched the definition of what most of us would call a puppy. I would frequently watch, week after week, hyper, large goldendoodles stampede in circles around the room, while terrified, true puppies would cower near the walls. I would greatly warn against bringing a dog that doesn't weigh at least 10 pounds. Your teacup Yorkie is going to pee on the floor in fear. I've seen it happen. The lessons given in puppy class might be useful if you're doing nothing at home to train your dog. The trainers themselves are very kind and are eager to give advice. What I truly wanted out of the class was an opportunity for my puppy to socialize with other puppies, but that hardly ever occurred due to how poorly it was segregated. If you have a big dog, this may be a better class for you than it was for me. read more

We discovered Karma Dog Training after adopting Bailey, our 4-month-old mini Golden Doodle. My hubby and I quickly signed up for Puppy Kindergarten class after receiving a first session free. Our trainer was Samantha. After class, we felt completely confidant that this was THE class for us and we signed up right away. Sam is amazing! We made sure to purchase a package that included the puppy kindergarten class and three private sessions because we knew she was so good with Bailey. In a class setting, Sam makes each pup (and owner) feel like the only one in the room. This can be hard to do when there are more than a handful of dogs. Karma dog also has assistants that help the trainers in class. Leslie is our favorite assistant, and like Sam, she makes sure that each dog and parent understands the task at hand. I can't say enough about Samantha. I hired her to do the reverse board and train with my four poodles (two standard and two mini) while I was in Colorado for five days. She stayed in touch the who week with updates and pictures of the pups, and I felt extremely confident that I had left them all in extremely capable, but gentle hands. When I got back at the end of the week to my still-clean home, my pups were quick to show off their new skills. Even the babies can now follow basic sit, down, and stay commands. With next-day follow up on what I need to do to continue the progress, and six-months of included group lessons, it was money well spent to iron out minor anxiety and potty-training issues and teach basic skills. I highly recommend Karma Dog Training! Their services are very reasonably priced when compared to other dog trainers in the DFW area. If you purchase one of their "starter packages" they also include 7 weeks of puppy-kindergarten classes at no additional cost. Karma is a great value even without the classes, but with the classes included they offer an incredible value. Our trainer, Robin, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Our 9 week-old golden retriever took to him immediately, and in the 3 hours since Robin left we have already noticed improvements in our pup's behavior. Robin gave us lots of information and direction to work with. We can't wait to continue our pup's training with Karma and with Robin. We love Beth! She cares so much about our puppy. He is very smart (the humble parents we are), so he gets extra attention from her and she stays late to talk after class. She sent us harness information and links to videos. Given the minimal cost, this place goes above and beyond in terms of dog training that you'll find in the DFW area. And my dog wont' stop looking through the fridge for the food/training treats that they recommended. We do the Puppy Kindergarten on Sundays at the Carrollton location (Social Pack Dogs building) with Beth. We absolutely love it. We get so much out of the class, and our puppy gets a safe, clean place to interact with other dogs while he's still too young for dog parks. Beth is wonderful. She's well-spoken and informed. She is thorough when she answers questions and always asks if anyone is having any problems at home or issues that weren't dealt with in class. She comes up with creative solutions when one or more puppies can't focus. She's also really good about giving frequent breaks and interacting with each puppy, no matter how many there are. (Though I definitely preferred the holiday weekend where only two of us showed up! The one on one attention is invaluable. The upside of the fuller classes is that our puppy has more playmates, though.) She answers her emails very quickly, and she's really understanding and flexible in case of emergencies. I like all of her assistants (students?), too. They're always really delightful and friendly and excited to see us. To say finding Karma Dog and Karah Wilkes, CPDT-KA Karma Dog Trainer & Behavior Specialist was a God send would be understating it! I'm not sure if you know this, but puppies are super narcissists. Our new lab puppy while VERY VERY cute really needed to learn manners! We attended Karah's puppy socialization class to get our baby confident around other puppies and to teach her some social skills. However, the best thing we did was do "board and train" with Karah. She kept our puppy for a week and returned to us a sweet obedient puppy who mastered commands like "sit" and "down". She helped tremendously with kennel training and was walking on a leash like a champ! Karah even made videos of her training for us to refer back to so we could continue our training at home. We decided to go with Karma Dog Training to start training our 14 week-old beagle puppy. We opted for the in-home boarding program where a trainer worked one-on-one with our dog own in our house for 6 hours a day for 5 days. Roseanna was our trainer, and we cannot say enough good things about her. We were very impressed at what she was able to teach in such a short amount of time. Rumour learned "sit," "down," "touch" (similar to "come"), "roll over," "leave it," and "spin." She left us daily notes on what commands they had worked on that day and areas that we could work on with her further. She also helped us with housebreaking and left a note each day that told us how many times she had peed and/or pooped outside and if she had any accidents in the house. She started laying the foundation for leash walking, and we're eager to work with Rumour on this more once all her shots are finished. Most days we would arrive home before they were finished training for the day, and Roseanna would show us the new commands she had learned and let us practice them with her there so that she could provide feedback. Working with Rumour in the evenings to practice and reinforce the new commands was easy and fun because Roseanna had done such a good job with her lessons during the day. Additionally, she helped work on Rumour's socialization with other dogs by letting her play with her huskies one day and with people with a field trip to Home Depot. Finally, she was a wealth of knowledge for all of our puppy questions such as: teething/chewing, suggestions for getting along with our senior dog, housebreaking and crating tips, what to expect in the stages of the first year, desensitizing to touch, how to deal with finicky eating, how to help accustom to car rides, etc. I would recommend Roseanna and Karma Dog Training to anyone looking to start training. The in-home boarding program we chose includes 6 months of free group classes, and we are most likely going to take advantage of those. We were very pleased with Roseanna and her knowledge, skill, patience, and friendly demeanor, and we could tell that Rumour really liked her and felt comfortable around her. Karma has been such an amazing experience for our new puppies. We enrolled them in the puppy kindergarten class and Katie has been a fabulous teacher. They quickly picked up on the new commands and we're so much better around other dogs and people. I'm very disappointed with their unresponsiveness before and after our initial session. Despite the 5 stars rating, I should've realized their unprofessionalism when it took 3 days for a trainer to contact me after I submitted a request online. I scheduled our first private in-house session on August 24, the trainer talked about random topics for 1.5 hrs and "trained" for 15-30mins. She kept saying that she'd email me all the info and recommendations she's talking about. At the end of the session she charged me 1/2 of the session's fee and recommended that another trainer does the training......On September 1, I texted to see if she had emailed me all the info she'd promised but she said that she'd been "swamped". September 11, I texted her again and she still hasn't gotten back to me. Maybe she will after reading this. I've been more than patient for over a month but I don't intend on using their service again or recommend them to anyone. It's been a waste of time and money. read more

She spent an hour on the phone with me before our consultation to just talk through what to expect and how my dog was feeling. During our training session, Samantha knew what she was doing exactly and at one point almost told me that my dog might have been beyond her. Amazing! Samantha is the VERY BEST at training, and I've been fostering/rescuing for over a decade. She worked with our last two furrkid additions, which are Australian Shepherd puppy rescues. When we added two more rescues to a growing family of senior-aged boxers, we were a little worried. Our pack integration was quit challenging to begin with due to some existing behavioral issues (we have all rescues), but Samantha was able to overcome all serious roadblocks and turned our puppy monsters into puppy angels. I thought KDTs training of my young dog/late pup was great, and would highly recommend them..., to any and all - unfortunately I have to caveat that (and unfortunately take away 1 star) because I've struggled with the cost/benefit ratio. To me price has to be part of this. If I was ever going to do a "make sure I start out my young dog in the best direction EVEN at a high cost" this would be it. I'm glad I used them as they seem to truly have helped get a couple KEY fundamentals in my dog; sit, some concept of heel - reinforced and developed touch older and more at next trainers - so THAT seems pretty invaluable. Since my young dog seemed to really take up heeling when I really needed (as I was about to have a crippling surgery to recover from) at next trainer(s)ing - and IT was notably less I've wondered about the value side(?). And since this flat cost a lot, I have to hope there may be better value elsewhere - but perhaps in this market it's just all not modest cost and I may ask too much? But who can say for sure about making sure, yet having value, when another alternative's outcome, at same time/conditions is not known? [It' called a "joint testing" problem of unknowables.] And relatively speaking, by that yardstick I could not give anyone here 5 stars? So don't think not having 5 stars is a must. By all means KDT deserves top recommendations on making sure your pet gets trained in the most positive enduring ways. If that - even a higher cost is worth it - I'd expect you'll be quite happy with them. I am glad I did. But guess this nets out in summary to my thinking KDT is of most value at the most important times in a younger dog's life. If you wait until later it's likely to be reduced benefit and higher cost relative to other choices you may have done by that point. read more

Ive now seen the impossible! Samantha Elkins with Karma Dog stayed with our spoiled untrained boxers (one of which is deaf) for one week while we were out of town. I returned to find two of the most well behaved dogs Ive ever experienced. Contacted Karma Dog in a very desperate place. My dog Lucy started showing extremely concerning behaviors on leash and it made our walks so stressful to the point of me dreading taking her out. She was impossible to control and scaring me as well as causing a scene over other dogs when on leash. The owner Jeff assured me that he would send me his best trainer who would help us love walks again. I spoke with Sam Elkins prior to our first evaluation and immediately started to feel some peace of mind with her kind nature and reassuring knowledge. Karma may be a decent training program, but my experience was not good. We have a young Chow Chow - 9 months old. I have had many Chows and know the breed well. We only buy from well-known quality breeders. We purchased Brutus from a breeder in Detroit at 8 weeks old. This pup is smart and sweet. BUT, he is rowdy. He wants to play all the time and will not take no for an answer when he decides it is time to play. He can get rough when he decides it's time to play and nips at our ankles and pants legs and stuff. He is also very scared of strangers and will not allow anyone but my wife and I to pet him. He will eventually warm up to people, but it takes at least an hour after they come over before he will let them close to him. He is not aggressive, just scared. We hired Karma for a private training visit at our home. Katie from Karma showed up Sunday night and when we opened the door she instantly, before doing anything, started throwing treats to Brutus. This continued non-stop for an hour and a half. I am sure she fed him a full bowl of food that evening. She also showed up with her little girl...8 or 9 years old I am guessing? No warning and no explanation for that. Throughout the evening she was unable to get Brutus to come up to her at all. He stayed at least 4 feet away barking most of the time. Katie had no answer. She left promising to send us an email with a plan for Brutus's training going forward. Curiously she did not charge us for the visit. We never heard from her. I waited a bit over a week and then called Karma, thinking I would give them a chance to comment before posting a review. I called and asked for Jeff, owner of the company; since he is the one I originally spoke with when I hired the company. It took about a day to get hold of someone. Jeff was unavailable. They were quite apologetic and "shocked" to hear what had happened. I was told Jeff would call me. A day later I received a call from another representative. She explained that Jeff had a death in the family and would not be back until Friday. She was also very sympathetic and "shocked" at what I told her. She assured me they would follow up. It has been another week now and no follow up. The rest of the story: I hired another dog trainer several days after Katie left and BEFORE calling Karma to tell them what had transpired. Her name is Loren and her company is "The Traveling Dog Trainer". She arrived with no treats and had no need of them. Within a few minutes of her arrival Brutus pretty much calmed down. Within 20 minutes he had approached her and licked her hand. After maybe half an hour she had him on a leash and was demonstrating commands. She talked CONSTANTLY! Awesome information. At the end of that hour we knew more about dog behavior than I would ever have believed. For the following week we practiced the techniques she had taught us (in one session) and saw a marked improvement in Brutus' behavior. She has since returned for another hour and Brutus is a changed dog. Actually, he is the same dog, but we now know better how to interact with him. I think I must have been lucky with all my former Chows...either that or as I grew older I lost my dog communication skills! I would recommend Loren 1000 times. Wow. read more

Samantha is AMAZING! She came to my house and worked with my 5month Bouvier. In one day she fine tuned his basic commands of sit, stay, come, down, leave it, and nipping and jumping.
