I was enrolled in flyball class for over 2 years but wasn't improving. I learned the pattern but lacked confidence in the ring. My boyfriend and I took in a 6 year old Lab named Duke at the end of May. Duke is smart as a whip and extremely sweet, but we noticed he had a few issues with obsessive compulsiveness and excitability. At his vet checkup, I mentioned this behavior to the staff and they recommended we get in touch with Fido's Finest. I contacted them to schedule some private in-home training sessions and they connected me with Hannah that same day. Hannah arrived promptly at our scheduled time a few days later for an evaluation and observed all Covid-19 safety precautions (wore a mask, did not get within 6 feet, etc). Luckily, the worst aspects of Duke's behavior were on full display in our first session and Hannah was able to immediately identify that he had obvious signs of over-stimulation.She recommended some very simple changes to his daily routine, such as making him earn his food and putting him down for a nap, that we implemented right away and saw good improvement with. She also showed us a few commands to start working with him on and left very detailed notes of everything we went over for that day. I was extremely satisfied with the knowledge gained over just that one session. I ended up purchasing a five session training pack where we addressed all the commands I had hoped Duke would learn (wait, leave it, watch me, side, let's go, come, and he even learned how to play fetch thanks to Hannah's recommendation of a squeaky ball!). We were taught all the progression levels for each command, so whenever we introduce him to a new environment we will know how to regress the command to the appropriate level. Most importantly, he is significantly calmer than before and we have a lot more confidence in continuing to work with him ourselves. Overall, I found Hannah to be very knowledgeable about dog behavior/psychology and committed to positive reinforcement training. She seemed genuinely invested in helping us and would even text me product recommendations outside of training. Her instructions for us humans was very clear and we learned a lot about our dog. I highly recommend. As far as Fido's Finest the company goes, I will note that I did a lot of research prior to selecting a trainer. Their pricing seems very in line with other trainers that offer similar services. I ultimately selected Fido's Finest due to the vet's recommendation. Casandra is an absolute miracle worker! Before Fido's Finest we had tried all sorts of other types of training for our black lab. We took him to "pet manners" classes, did private training, etc. While he learned the basics with the other trainers, they weren't able to help us with his impulse control when walking and being around people. That's when we found Fido's Finest. We used their Board and Train program with Casandra and she was able to what I thought was impossible. She was able to get a 2 year old lab to focus on the handler and resist the urge to sniff, lick, play with everything in sight. We just rescued an Australian Sheperd who came to us house trained and with a few basic obedience commands down but needs a little help. We worked with Delores to find someone who would be able to work with our pupper but under constraints we felt were necessary to feel safe given COVID-19 (I.e: masks on, outside only). At first we were set to work with Hannah but she did not want to wear her mask outside to train with us so we ended up getting matched with Sarah Maxwell! We are so thankful we did and Sarah came to meet us outside at a park with mask on (properly, might I add) ! Thank you, Sarah. She was very professional and knowledgeable, taking copious notes about our daily routine with our dog and observing him while he lay beside us. I felt she was very knowledgeable about positive reinforcement training and how to use marker words to train our dog, even getting down to the specifics of how to say the words, since tone and body language make a big difference too. She also taught us "down" in this first session, which our dog is starting to pick up! Cassandra is an absolute miracle worker! We brought our seven month old golden retriever puppy to her for a two week board and train. The difference in our dog is night and day! We can now take her on a walk with no pulling, no more eating grass, & no more trying to greet EVERYONE. Previously we were hesitant to take her to public places because she was so hyper and out of control. I like to say that she is friendly to a fault. We just took her over the weekend to an outdoor restaurant that allows dogs. She sat well behaved and good manners for over an hour. We enrolled our 1 year old rescue into the 6 week training program and it was definitely beneficial for our dog and us as well! What was great was that the classes fit our schedules (once a week from 7-8PM )and was located near us in Allen. We met at a pet salon that was available and set up for classes. We usually had 6 other dogs that was enrolled in the class. It was like a co-hort, so we saw the same dogs throughout the program which was cool because we got to see their progress as well. Every week we focused on a command/trick, such as "sit", "down", "watch me", and "leave it". We used treats to help train them, and positive reinforcement is emphasized. Throughout the program we definitely saw improvement with our dog; he waited for us to give him the green light to eat his food, he doesn't escape when we open the door, and he generally became a better behaved dog. At the end of the 6 weeks, he "graduated" which we were super surprised how emotional and proud we were, especially when he put on his graduation cap HAHA! Overall, this was a great training program for our dog and we are so happy we were able to have our dog go through with it. I'm also happy to see they provide other training programs, like puppy training, obstacle courses, and boarding with training over a weekend. We recently fostered and then adopted a 2 1/2 year old Beagle mix girl, who is incredibly smart and well-behaved, but she had some issues with loose-leash walking and on-leash aggression towards other dogs. We called Fidos Finest and set up a First Impressions session at hour house. She took the time to ask and answer lots of questions, explain her dog-training philosophy (which is totally in line with mine, see below) and spent time doing some leash training with us. She stayed as long as it took to answer all our questions (of which there were a lot!) without complaint even though it extended the time a bit. One thing I really appreciated was that she didn't speak to us in a condescending way (several trainers I've spoken with have, assuming we know nothing about dog training and need to be lectured to), but rather explained things in a friendly, helpful way. She then gave us some instructions on how to work with Curry (that's our dog's name) on the leash aggression issue, as well as a few other obedience commands to train her with before bringing her to the Intermediate group class in January. A few days after our training session, I had a situation with our doggie daycare that I was concerned about, so I texted her for advice and she was very prompt and responsive to my questions. Absolutely awesome service! One more thing that I really want to commend Fido's Finest for is their commitment to using positive training methods and the most up to date research on dog behavior and training. I can't tell you how many times I've been out and about, doing training with our dog, and people ask me if I watch "The Dog Whisperer" or if I have tried a "pinch" collar, or that she shouldn't walk in front of me at all because she's trying to be the "pack leader", etc. I had one woman tell me that if the dog didn't sit on the instant of my command that I needed to push her butt to the floor, and I should never repeat a command more than once. I know this kind of training may work, but I don't think it's the only way, or the best way. I want my dog to learn to communicate with me and to think for herself, and I find positive training methods, like those Fidos Finest adheres to, are the best way to really develop that. I have had Curry (that's her name) for a little over one month and in that time she has learned: sit, wait, come, stay, down, look at me, leave it, sit-pretty, army crawl, jump (over objects), back up, spin, play dead, 'on your feet', bring it, drop it, and others. We are working on proofing these with distance, distraction and duration and she is doing awesome. Her leash behavior has gotten so much better than when we first brought her home (still work to do though) and I just really have a problem with people not having patience to allow me to work with her until she gets it - insisting that I need to do leash jerks and pinch collars, etc. to MAKE her behave correctly. Okay, well, that was a rant, wasn't it? Anyway, if you're a fan of trainers like Ian Dunbar, Zak George, and Victoria Stillwell, then you'll love Fido's Finest! read more

I have a pit bull puppy that is very rambunctious and overly loving to guests that step into our home. Our dog was 1-2 years old when we adopted him from the SPCA. Chili is a yellow lab mix, and knew very few commands. Fido's Finest offers multiple training options, and we felt this was a good starting point with our dog. We started with the Beginner group class. This class is great! Chili now knows all of the basic commands--sit, stay, down, watch me (this is a great command!), leave it, shake,,,. Our class had 5-6 dogs, depending on the week. The trainers teach a command, and then spend time with each dog to insure you are performing the command correctly. Recently we decided to have 3 private lessons at home. This allowed us to work on specific bad behaviors, and learn commands to counteract these. Casandra was our trainer, and she is amazing with dogs. Each week we learned several new commands, and now Chili is much more restrained when anyone comes to visit. I think the trainers are training the owners the correct commands and behaviors, as much as training the dogs. I highly recommend Fido's Finest. The trainers know and understand dogs. Cassandra is amazing. I have a crazy Yorkie and a timid sweet little Maltese. My Yorkie is a bit aggressive and attacked my Maltese frequently.
