This will be my second review within a month. I continually see improvement in my dog Amber. Normally I feel guilt dropping off Amber at doggy day care but every time I pick her up after work, she is so happy. This tells me she is enjoying her time at K9 university. Today I picked her up and she immediately jumps into the back seat. Well, she laid on the floor and did not want to jump into the back seat. I realized she is having such a good time playing at daycare that she didn't want to leave. Response to Owner: Thank you for your response. While I understand that canine cough can be common and sometimes unavoidable, it was distressing to see my puppy come back ill from your facility. My concerns extend beyond this issue, however, and I feel compelled to address them. Canine Cough: While I understand that canine cough can be common, the fact that my puppy contracted it at your facility raises concerns about the cleanliness and health standards maintained. Ensuring a clean and safe environment is crucial, and I believe more proactive measures could have been taken to prevent the spread of illness Veterinarian Consultation: Your claim that I used an "over the phone vet" or Teladoc is incorrect. I consulted with my regular veterinarian, who conducted a full physical examination of my puppy I'm not sure why you think I used an over the phone vet if you state you have records that I provided you. This professional concluded my puppy was ill and also advised against the use of bitter apple spray directly into my puppy's mouth, which your trainer did spray in my dogs mouth, highlighting the potential risks of GI upset and ulcers. This raises further concerns about the appropriateness of the training methods employed at K-9 University. Training Effectiveness and Methods: Despite the multiple training sessions, there was no noticeable improvement in my puppy's behavior. The methods used, particularly the use of bitter apple spray, were concerning and contrary to the advice of my veterinarian. This discrepancy underscores the need for safe and effective training practices. Review: I took my then 6-month-old puppy to K-9 University for a two-week boarding and training program which included multiple one on one trainings then group trainings, and I am extremely disappointed with the experience. The total cost was $1300, but the services provided were far from satisfactory. When I got my puppy back after the two-week boarding portion of the program, I did not observe any improvement in his behavior. On top of that, my puppy came back from boarding with a cough, which was very distressing. The one-on-one trainings that followed the boarding did not seem effective either. Based on what I have seen, these trainings consisted mainly of the trainer walking my puppy around a room for a few minutes, and there wasn't much actual training involved in my opinion. Again, there was no noticeable improvement following this portion of the program. I also inquired about my puppy's problem with biting, and the K-9 University trainer sprayed bitter apple spray directly into his mouth and suggested I do this whenever he bites. When I consulted my vet about this suggestion, I was told not to do this under any circumstances as such practice could cause GI upset and ulcers. The trainer's advice was potentially harmful to my puppy, and I am happy I have gotten a second opinion. After the above experience, I questioned K-9 University about its methods. K-9 University stated that their techniques are considered "positive punishment." As I do not agree with such approach and have seen absolutely no positive impact or changes from my puppy's participation in the boarding portion or the one-on-one trainings, I decided to take my puppy out of the training before the program was complete. Due to the early withdrawal and poor experience, I have requested a refund. After some back and forth, K-9 University offered a partial refund of $300 if I signed an NDA, preventing me from writing a negative review. The practice of payment in exchange to restrict me from sharing my experience seems untrustworthy to me, making me question how often this has happened before. Overall, I had a terrible experience with K-9 University. I do not recommend their services to anyone who cares about their dog's well-being and proper training. I have since found a different training company, which utilizes a positive / reward-based training method, and have been happy with their results. read more

I recently moved to Texas for a new job with my little fur baby Gambit. He's as mischievous as he is cute and I needed some help in training him. He did the board and train program and came back such a good dog already. Now we're doing follow-ups and he loves it. He also goes multiple days a week for daycare because I work long hours and he has so much puppy energy. I'm a little extra when it comes to my dog and very particular. He's my family and I want nothing but the best for him. Everyone here is super patient and considerate of all my MANY questions and concerns and never make me feel like I'm burdensome or silly... he's always referred to by name which sounds trivial but I think is nice since they see so many dogs... we've gone to other places that weren't as considerate. I have now had 13 dogs trained at K-9 University. I would never use another training school. The trainers are wonderful caring people. I know for a fact other places use breaking the dog down, not giving food and punishment as a training tool. K-9 University doesn't use any of these types of training. They build the dog up with confidence teaching obedience. I have know Chuck for years who is the owner and I had a stroke in 95. My trainer , Anothy , taught me to learn the commands in away I remember. it was really wonderful to have someone help me instead of telling me I could not do it. Every dog I have had trained at their locations love going there and going back if I have to board them. I can not say it enough, I would never go any place else. My trainers I have had and with a wounderful owner you can't go wrong. You can trust that your dog is safe and treated very well. Their only answer to help their awful training is more lessons that won't help! They should give refunds when none of their training is successful. All we asked for is house training and crate training and neither of those were done. They just train the owner when I go there and I do the same exercises with my dog when she's home and she does nothing. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish I could leave a zero star review. Our dog would sit and give paw before we brought her here. Since she has been back from 2 weeks of boarding and training she hasn't done any of that anymore. It seems like she has been untrained. It's ridiculous we cannot get any refund. DO NOT GO HERE. Their methods don't work. Spraying a dog in the face with apple cider vinegar isn't always the solution. All of the training has gone to waste and we cannot get any sort of refund. Their training guarantee is BS. I don't recommend this place at all. She was also to the bone skinny when we picked her up and she doesn't even close to listen now. This is extremely upsetting! read more

I've been taking my dogs to K-9 University for more than 10 years - first in Garland and now in Plano - for grooming, daycare, boarding, and training. My dogs get so excited when I ask them "do you want to go to school?", and that tells me they are comfortable and well cared for. Had my 9 month old Bloodhound Renko there for training. Anthony was our trainer and he has been great dealing with the "Bloodhound " trait of wanting to do what the want to when they want to do it. He has been patient and helpful in over coming that trait. Renko has graduated to group class now and we Re looking forward for his progression in the training. After reading some reviews, we decided to leave our Rhodesian Ridgeback at K-9, when my family and I were going to be away for a long weekend. Upon our return, I went to pick him up, and the first thing I noticed was the odor. He smelled (stunk) like urine. He s also acted very different. Initially, I attributed it to missing us, he's just six months old and never been away from us before. We got home and took him straight to the bath. My wife said that the water turned yellow. We got him out of the tub and as I started drying him off, he was losing hair. Ridgebacks don't generally shed a lot. We wash him often and I've never seen him shed like that before. He then went into the living room and pee'd on the floor. I was thinking, this isn't our dog. He acted nervous and fidgety, completely opposite of the affectionate loving dog that we had dropped off. Thankfully, given some time, he's back to acting like himself. But at the very least, he appears to have been affected by his trip there, and not in a good way! I told my wife, if we had only known what we know now, we would never have left him there! We feel terrible! read more

If there was an option of no stars I would select it. I am just infuriated with our experience with K-9 We boarded our Great Dane for 2 week obedience school. When we picked him up he was underweight, green mucus, foul odor and feces behind his ear. I was told they had just bathed him and they just discovered green mucus. He did not seem bathed to me he stunk, and had feces on him. We knew the minute we saw our pup he did not look right, the trainer insisted in giving us a run through though. Once we picked him up we took him to the Emergency Vet and they provided him antibiotics and started on lab tests. The vet was concerned because from her knowledge he had been sick for a while. Our dane was sick for a week and half. We had to take him to the vet again after a week because he was getting worse, they took chest X-rays and he was diagnosed with kennel cough, lower respiratory infection and pneumonia and other virus that I did not think dogs could get. My dane has a clean history we provide him nothing but the best. We have not seen much change he will obey to sit, but he still has issues obeying etc. PLEASE do not take your loved pets to this place. They do not care and just want your money. We are now 4,000 in boarding/vet bills!!! We trusted this place to take care of our pet and they failed. We will not be taking our dog back not even to finish the obedience training. Please save your money and go else where. read more

I have been taking Samson to K9 University in Plano since I got him in 2006. One of the many things I love about it is that after all these years, there are still staff members working there from the first day I walked in. Since that first time, I've had Bowser there (may he RIP) and Ginger. The team at K9 is WONDERFUL with all the dogs. I never worry when I'm leaving them in their care. I highly recommend them. P.S.
