Dan @ dogs mind training has been the best thing we could ever do for our dog Leo. Leo is our recent rescue pup and after a month into our adoption he started to display his true personality which consisted of biting at my husbands hand, lunging and heavy breathing at other dogs or random people that are within his sight and constant pulling at his leash. Professor Dan, A TRUE MODEL OF LEADERSHIP-I have been a client of "Dogs Mind Training" for 5 years, with 3 different dogs. As an artist, gallery director/professor, and long-term sarcoma survivor with a disability, I always considered me and my dogs to be difficult cases. Our dogs are pretty well behaved but needed help in walking and keeping calm when seeing squirrels/rabbits/other dogs during our daily walks. We reached out to Dog's Mind Training and scheduling was pretty easy. Dan was our trainer for our two dogs and he was really nice, helpful and informative. In the first "class", our over wiggly dog was immediately calm and was able to walk well. Dan gave us practice techniques on how to stay calm and stay (place) and how to walk better to the point where it's enjoyable for both sides. As good as it gets. We have a particularly high energy border collie and a nervous/anxious reactive mixed-bag pup. Dan seamlessly addressed both dog's needs. I had sent quite the laundry list of issues prior to the session and he took his time to explain and show how to work towards resolving each and every one of them. Holy cow! My wife and I are still in shock after our first session with Dan. We have an 11 month old corgi with tons of personality, but is super hard headed. He won't come when called, loves to play "catch the corgi" when we're out in the backyard, and will not stay back when someone comes to the door with a delivery or if we have guests, and lots of jumping. We needed training for his safety and our sanity. By the end of the hour, Dan had him coming to each of us (our dog had a habit of tuning out my wife), staying back from the door, sitting and waiting to get one of his favorite treats on the floor. He also stopped the jumping. This morning, he sat for me while I wiped his feet (it was a wrestling match usually until this point). We had Dan out to our house about 2 weeks ago for a specific problem we were having with one of my parent's pups. Studly is an English lab (we think) who was running wild near their house for several months prior to my dad being able to catch him and bring him home. That was over a year ago. He is gentle, loving, and the most well-behaved of all the dogs in the family (total of 4). One problem: he would NOT get in the car. We have lake property about 2 hours away and the whole family (dogs and all) love to go out there for long weekends, holidays, etc. Since Studly's been around, someone has to stay back with him. His size (@100lbs) and reluctance to get in the car prevents any of us from simply picking him up and putting him in. I contacted MANY places who wanted to sell us a $1200 package. Or wanted us to bring him to their training center (Hello? He won't get in the car!!) THANK YOU, Dan! We are long-time dog owners. We proudly trained and enjoyed two Boston Terriers as we shared their life until they passed at 14 and 15 years old. We managed to train those dogs without notable problems and only a limited consultation with a professional trainer. They lived a wonderful and very long life. In return, they gave us tremendous joy. We now have three beautiful and loving Brussels Griffons. The breed is difficult to train on many levels but our patience and their sweetness made the effort worth the frustration we felt. We managed to get Gatsby and Garbo in line with little to complain of! Our first two were a breeze compared to our third. Our baby, Bogart, tested us from day one. Barking, biting, and general chaos ensued when he arrived. We loved his energy but the barking drove us mad! The biting was unacceptable. We called Dan a year too late! He arrived today and taught us how to correct this behavior right away. He trained us and calmed our excitable young boy. He was very open to the additional people we brought into our home for training (housekeeper and personal assistant- past victims of Bogart's fearfulness) Dan spent hours patiently guiding us and calmly testing us all as we learned how to deal with Bogart's behavior. We didn't realize how the first two dogs were following his anxious/dominant behavior. A few months ago I rescued a young Golden Retriever who was heartworm positive, not spayed, and still full of puppy energy. After she destroyed nearly all of the thick wooden blinds in my apartment while I was at work, I realized I had to do something to get her under control. She had never been crate trained, and she had major separation anxiety issues to the point of nearly getting me evicted with her destruction and barking. I'm lost of words to describe what this guy can do for your dog and for you as well. I noticed that my dog respected him right off the bat, when he stepped into our house. Max is a 5 month golden retriever puppy and we were looking for someone to help us to build a strong obedience foundation, once we have plans to Max to become a therapy dog in the future. I was using a prong collar to "communicate" with my dog, but Dan showed me that this tool wasn't really necessary t our case, and it could hurt more than help. We took it off and what I saw was incredible: Dan as able to get Max off his constant excited mode and put him in a very calm state of mind, where things started to make sense to me and to my dog as well. I was able to learn how to do all the things I have been doing, using the prong and other tools, but differently and with much more trust, respect and attention from my dog. I'm going to do another session next week and keep working on all the good stuff we learned from Dan. Then I have plans to bring him to another session to reinforce what we've been doing. Our dog Moose, was having some agggression issues toward other dogs.
