We rescued a dog and decided to foster him until the right home came along; however, the pup had major separation anxiety, didn't walk well on a leash, bulldozed through doors when opened, and wouldn't step foot in a kennel. Dan came to our home, not once, but twice, and spent well over 4-5 hours with us. His pricing is very reasonable and his care for the dogs is truly evident. So grateful for both Dan and Michelle's assistance with training my street pup, Buddy Duke. so, i've only had cats forever and finally decided i wanted a puppy especially after we bought a house. Nibbler is our ADORABLE, loving, sweet, Australian Shepherd BUT he definitely needed some training. After my husband did some extensive research we decided on Dog's Mind Training and Dan is basically heaven sent. Dan is AMAZING!!! I continue to be impressed with him with every interaction. I adopted a 2 year old pit/boxer/ Great Dayne mix that is the most hyper dog I have ever seen and stubborn. Cute and loveable but only listened when she wanted to, jumped on guests and would'nt let them relax, and had extremely bad anxiety. Obedience training can only do so much. It teaches your dog what its supposed to do, then if they want to do it for you or not is up to the dog. Dans approach is to get the dog to follow you as their leader, to do what you want and enjoy doing it. He does the training in your own home, where most of your dogs problems likley take place (along with outside/walks) My dog was a bit of a terror. Within minutes of coming over my apt he was able to earn trust and control, and my dog was listening to him just by his energy and body language. Then he taught me how to loose leash walk her and reclaim the leadership role in the house, all within one hour! First off Dan's sessions are beyond reasonable and well worth the money (I dont have money to just waste and hope progress comes of it). Additionally he stays in touch and answers all of my questions and concerns via e-mail. He even came back for a free check up and breif session! Dan truely cares about you and your dog's well being. Only two weeks since he first came over, me and my dog are much happier. She knows what she is and is not allowed to do and our communication is much better. My dog and I had recently been through a very traumatic situation where we had discovered that my girlfriend was unresponsive - she would be pronounced dead shortly after once the authorities arrived. After this incident, my dog became extremely over-protective and aggressive towards anyone that came near me. It was very difficult on both of us, but a relative suggested DogsMindTraining as an option to board him and hopefully get him to a point where he was able to socialize again. I got Dan's card from Hollywood Feed pet store in Plano. The sales clerk said he was wonderful and she was correct! We just adopted a 5 year old chocolate lab that had bounced around from foster homes. He was a little aggressive but sweet, didn't do well on the leash and jumped on me every time I got home. Feeding time was challenging because he was so excited to get his food. Dan walked in and within a few minutes he was showing me how to take the lead and teach my big boy how to behave. He came over twice. The first time we worked on walking with the leash and getting him not to jump. He also learned to stay in his place ( his dog bed). I have to say that when I was reading the reviews I was a bit skeptical. I couldn't quite comprehend that they were all accurate. I am a cured skeptic... in this case. Dan spent one hour with my puppy and now we have a whole new animal. Our dog is the sweetest thing, but he was such a spaz that we were beginning to not enjoy his company. We had Dan over on Sunday to meet our 15 month old Pit mix, Hitch, and our 6 year old Beagle, Maggie. Almost immediately, they began responding to him. They stopped barking and jumping. He showed my wife and me how to keep them from going crazy when someone knocks at the front door. He was able to get Hitch to walk on a leash, without pulling. Something that we have never been able to do with Hitch. Dan did this amazing thing where he put a treat on the floor and had Hitch lay down, with it inches from his nose, and wait until he was invited to eat the treat. Dan established himself as the pack leader from the moment that he walked into the house and Hitch and Maggie were incredibly responsive, submissive and CALM. Dan truly has a gift and a rare understanding of how dogs think. It also was obvious that he really loves dogs, which was very important to my wife and me. After spending little more than an hour with our two dogs, they were much calmer and obedient. It has been two days since Dan visited us and showed us a number of techniques to establish ourselves as the "pack leader". Both dogs have responded amazingly well. Hitch has stopped attacking the wooden fence in our backyard when the neighbor's dog is outside. If he starts barking at something in our alley, all I do is calmly walk into the backyard, snap my fingers, and point to the house, and Hitch immediately stops barking and goes back into the house. When we go on our morning walks, Hitch and Maggie will wait inside the house, with the door wide open, and wait until they are invited to step outside. Hitch "WALKS" on a leash, without pulling me down the street, now. Something that he has never done in the 13 months, since we rescued him from the shelter. Dan is a really great trainer. I have a four year old female pit bull who loves to jump when greeting people. Dan immediately became the pack leader when he walked into my apartment. He was very gentle and loving with my dog. He showed me various exercises to implement in order to stop the jumping and unwanted attention. I felt that he genuinely cared about my dog and didn't use any type of anger towards her. He was firm but loving. My husband and I had Dan over this past Sunday to help us with our dogs. We've had one of our pups for 2 years now and recently acquired a new dog who was starting to act very dominant. Since we didn't want to let this behavior go too far down the wrong road, we decided to nip this in the bud as fast as possible (read in less than 24 hours). I gave Dan a call to see if he was available on Sunday at the last minute and he said he would be able to fit us in. Thank god he was. He helped both of us to learn how to treat the dogs in a way that both dogs would respect us. To be more blunt, even our dog that we have had for 2 years didn't think of us as pack leaders; we weren't acting like ones! Dan was very patient and talked through all of the different tips and techniques we would need to let our little boys know who was in charge. After he left, both dogs were on their best behavior and we're excited that we're finally in control of them (rather than it being the other way around). Also, I agree with the other reviewer; Dan's rates are extremely reasonable and he actually comes to your home and works in the environment with you and your dog. We could not be happier with the results we saw from Dan's training. He is someone who truly loves dogs and does not believe in yelling or simply treat based training. In fact, what he teaches you is far more effective for both you and your dogs (seriously, we took an obedience class with our first dog two years ago and we learned more in 2 hours with Dan than we did in the 8 week training class we took in Chicago). I did lots of research on trainers before deciding on Dan and I am 100% glad I chose him. You will read all the fantastic reviews on Dan and think "it can't be true - he can't be that good" but he is that good! Dan started working with us and our Golden Doodle puppy a month after we brought him home. Although I work with our puppy every day, he was still exhibiting some behaviors that I could tell were going to be more and more difficult to control as he got older. Dan walked into our home and Dakota immediately responded to him. He calmed down like I had never seen him before, paid attention to Dan and within an hour was a different puppy. And, we were different owners - Dan taught us the difference between obedience training and behavior training. The difference in communication and understanding between us and Dakota is truly amazing. It's obvious that Dan loves dogs and his work! Dan helped me with our stubborn 3 month old mix breed puppy, Max (Husky, German Shepherd, Collie and Border Collie). I was very impressed with Dan and his training techniques. They didn't require fancy things like some training places, we just used the treats and toys at my house. Dan established his place with Max from the minute he walked in the door and Max absolutely loved him. We did three sessions with Dan, plus one quick follow up. I went from not being able to pet Max, take him on a walk or even walk down my stairs without getting bitten to Max laying peacefully on the couch next to me and being able to lay on the floor without fear of being bitten (he just comes up and licks you now). I was really at my wits end with Max and now I finally able to enjoy having a puppy and his little puppy quirks. He is walking better on a leash, understands I am the boss (most of the time, he is still learning) and is overall much more enjoyable to be around. Dan was very patient and worked with Max and myself to make sure I knew exactly what to do to establish myself as the pack leader and what to do step by step when Max was misbehaving. My husband and I have worked with both Dan and Michelle and both are amazing at what they do! Recently, we asked Michelle to come help us introduce two new foster dogs (a pit bull and a larger mix, probably St. Bernard) to our already feisty and protective german shepherd and we couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
