My family has been going to Dr. Lau for over a decade. Love her as a doctor. In recent time they have outsourced much of the care to a third party who is AWFUL. They say they are part of her practice but that is not true. Getting any type of appt. care now takes months and they say tell you things they are scheduling appts but we found they just let things drop. Really sad that Dr. Lau is tarnishing her practice/reputation with the relationship. We are moving practices and have advised the same to a number of family and friends that we have referred to her over the years. Look at the other reviews and you will see a consistent theme of "Great Doctor" but "Horrible Experience". Really sad. read more

I have been with Dr. Lau, for at least 20 years. I will never leave this doctor. She is the most thorough, patient, and intelligent doctor I've ever had. If it hadn't been for Dr. Lau, some of my issues may not have been discovered as early. Also, misdiagnosed findings from other doctors proved to be unwarranted, because Dr. Lau is so on top of her game. If she's hard to get into, it's only because she gives patients her time and makes sure they understand their issues.I have been disappointed so many times with various doctors, but this woman really knows medicine. She stays current in all areas of healthcare, and will choose a more conservative approach before prescribing meds. I'm so happy she is my doctor. Highly recommend! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Karen Lau for about 5 years now and my health has never been better. My old doctor was not very attentive and let a lot of my ailments linger for many years. Before switching to Dr. Lau, I would be in pain a lot and could not get any real answers. Dr. Lau is very attentive to your needs and will definitely give you a proper diagnosis. She will listen and help heal you because she cares. I would definitely recommend her to anyone that needs a primary care physician. She is the best! read more

I have had a horrible experience with Dr. Lau's staff. They are unprofessional, unfriendly, don't have a clue about medicine or terms thereof. They are disorganized and don't care. What a shame! Appointments are not written down that they make and your time is not valued. They have non-medical staff giving you personal test results that they can't explain. Dr Karen Lau has been my doctor forever. Ever since she was in Tustin. Initially it used to be an easy process of setting up an appointment me her and I actually got to see her. Ever since she moved to Orange location she is always booked for next 3-4 mnths in future doing the well-women appointments and her regular patients are seen by her PA Ben. It's been more than 2 years now that I haven't gotten to see Dr Karen and I have been seen my her PA Ben for at least 4 times now. According to best practices in medical every 3rd appointment should be with you Primary Doctor and the in between could be seen by the PA. I have called them and specifically asked them for Dr Karen Lau and I have been surprised with Ben or I have been told that I would have to wait 3-4 mnths to see Dr Karen. What's the point of having a Doc if they are not available for their patients? I could understand if the doctor has been booked for 1-2 weeks but couple months is ridiculously.... specially because you get paid more for well-women checkups than attending regular patients. I called in today at 1:04pm to make an appointment and the answering machine said "you have reached us at after hours"! REALLY? 1:04PM IS AFTERHOURS FOR YOU GUYS? Understand you could be on lunch but at least specify it stating when will the staff be returning. Definitely switching my doc now. I have referred many friends and family to Dr Karen Lau but this just makes me regret it. Will be spreading my word to them. read more

Not too sure what happened with the previous patient/review (1 star review), but I have been seeing Dr. Lau for almost 8+ years, following her from her previous practice to the current one. In comparison, her current office is much more organized and efficient. The waiting time is as expected at any physician's office (much shorter than before). Dr. Lau has always taken care of us, providing extra care that is hard to find nowadays. I would highly recommend her to any one. read more

Dr Lau finally came to the realization the medical office was completely useless and moved to (hopefully) better office. Will update review after I visit her in the new office. *This is for OLD Office* The office manager needs to be shot, revived by the doctors and shot again. Stop over booking the doctors! Telling every patient "oh, its Dr. Lau, she is always behind" doesn't help. A) that means you know, yet do nothing to solve the problem. B) Dr. Lau cares enough about the patients health to spend the appropriate amount of time with each and every patient. The only reason I put up with the crappy office service (or lack there of) was that Dr Lau is a GREAT physician. Talk about taking the doctor away from a bad situation, but not being able to separate the situation from the doctor. It is no surprise that the reviews on Dr. Lau herself are all 5's (I tried to add more but Yelp wouldn't let me) and the previous practice she was attached to are all 1's. The best thing to come out of that office are both Dr. Lau and her fabulous M.A. Sandy! Since their departure, the previous practice declined into oblivion and shattered into a million pieces. Dr Lau is the best doctor I have ever had and that is coming from one who's wife used to be his physician. She is kind, considerate and has the patient in full focus when she is assessing the situation. What really amazes me, is even though she is so busy, you feel like the only patient on her schedule! I have been treated by Dr. Lau for 4 years and have followed her to this new office even though she no longer takes my insurance. She is worth every penny! It's unfortunate that the people who gave 1 star did it for all the right reasons, but aimed at the wrong person on the wrong thread. So this is a case, until more people give her 5 stars and increase her average, where you can't judge a book by its cover because as soon as you open the book you'll be hooked. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. I wasted an hour and a half waiting to see this family physician. I was checked in by their front office staff. However, I was last on the list to be seen during their lunch hour. The doctor was busy attending to other patients. I heard laughing going on in the back office. I couldn't no longer wait due to lack of no responsiveness or time allocation from this doctor. Upon leaving the Orange Optum Care medical office, I encountered Dr. Lau directly. She rudely told me off stating that I was late to this office which was a lie to cover up her overbooked patient scheduling by a satellite appointment desk. This dingbat physician and her staff are extremely rude, disorganized and showed me no courtesy. read more

Dr. Lau has been so helpful. I have nothing but good things to say about her and I would and have recommended her to several friends. After spending time with me at my first appointment she discovered that I have post nasal drip and prescribed a full panel of bloodwork. No other PCP has done that for me. After years and years of having sneezing fits we found out WHY I was having these fits...allergies to many things in my environment. I didn't even go in for this reason so I was impressed at the very get go. Among many other reasons why one might choose her as their PCP, she is highly knowledgeable and is extremely good at educating you on any issues or concerns you might have. I had a concern with taking too much medication so she mentioned a product that is natural rather than loaded with steroids that I'd been using in the cream(s) that my previous PCP prescribed. Dr. Lau is also so very personable and doesn't make her patients feel that she is so above them. It's true, it can be a long wait but she does spend time with you and that in and of itself is worth it! You will be hard pressed to find a doctor who will do that much less talk about how life is for her. She is very in touch with her patients and doesn't speak in doctor lingo. I would say that just because the office staff isn't the most friendly, it's worth it. read more

I switched to Dr. Lau this year, and I've waited for a few visits to pass before reviewing so that I could get a good feel for the place. First, let's get the one bad thing out of the way. You will wait. You will wait a lot. I have never waited less than an hour after my appointment time to see this doctor. BUT... She is ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE WAIT. You probably wait because she spends time addressing each and every one of your concerns in depth. (And because this office is also a pulmonary specialist office dealing with a lot of slower moving seniors who need a lot of care.) You won't leave with questions. If something is concerning you, she will take care of it. I told Dr. Lau that my last doctor just didn't do much and I really wanted to keep better tabs on my health. She got me full blood work and discovered my high cholesterol and has me on a plan to try to fix it, with another check scheduled for 6 months out. My last doctor once saw high numbers and just said, "Eh, you probably ate red meat the night before the test." I told Dr. Lau I was concerned about skin cancer due to being a ginger and having been burned a whole lot as a kid. She does a full head-to-toe check for me and has removed (in office) several areas of concern. She keeps me up to date on my vaccines, which my last doctor never even mentioned once. She's making referrals for me to a neurologist to figure out what's going on with my carpal tunnel, etc. She gets me the medications I need and always makes sure they are safe for a breastfeeding mom (without the weird judgment about nursing a toddler my last doc gave). I have been so pleased with the care I've received from Dr. Lau that I will gladly overlook the long wait to see her. If you're pressed for time and need to be in and out in 10 minutes, this is not the doc for you. If you want to know you're getting attentive, evidence based care, then this is the doctor for you. read more

Dr Lau left the Old Office (1010 W. LaVeta, Orange) and is in a new office (2540 N. Santiago Blvd.) I have only called the new office once and got right through and spoke with a very helpful lady. I can tell you that Dr Lau is FAULOUS. Her assistant is wonderful too. I can attest to the fact that everyone talking trash about the "old" office staff is 100% correct. The old office sent out a letter announcing that Dr Lau had left and gave the wrong phone number to her new office. They then sent out a "corrected letter" stating that: "We understand that the previous letter "in forming" you..." That is how they do things in that office (LaVeta). Re: Dr Lau, she is really amazing. She takes her time, asks questions and listens. She has a great sense of humor, is direct, reasonable, fair and very caring. I usually have to wait so I bring something to do so it is not too bad. I agree that she should just start her own practice. She is an amazing doctor and deserves amazing support staff. I hope her assistant is able to follow her to the new location. She is super sweet and mellow too. read more

I have had several doctors in my 66 years, but none as completely thorough, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping their patience. She is the doctor everyone wants and no one can find. We, myself and family, have loved and used her for years. The reason we had put up with the old staff was because we knew it would be a gamble to find another doctor with her ability. Don't even bother trying to make an appointment. I was on hold for 45 minutes in total. I had to call four times before someone actually picked up they just kept putting me on hold. Then when I finally got through they asked for information that my insurance provider assured me that they would be able to find if they just put in my member ID number. Lazy, and incompetent staff.
