I went to the ER and got the best care... Checking in was easy. Triage was fast. Registration was smooth and easy. And getting seen by a nurse practitioner was quick. I received the care I needed and the staff was very caring, polite, professional, and kind. They worked very fast and handled me with compassion. There's absolutely nothing bad I could say about my visit. Thank you to the ED for taking care of me when I needed emergency care. I even cried there because I was going through so much physical pain due to a freak accident injury, so they were very kind to me. Made me comfortable since I was scared and I went alone during my visit. I was quite scared and didn't know what was going to happen, but I felt very taken care of. I actually like UCI Health, but it was my first time needing to visit without health insurance and I literally paid the price. I was billed $1800+ for a 15 minute Dr visit + blood work. I was advised at front desk check-in the approximate Dr visit amount of $600+. Unfortunately the Dr only instructed me to check on MRI pricing due to me not having insurance, but referred me for blood work on-site with no mention it would add $1100 to my bill. Due to the unexpected high bill amount, I did inquire with UCI Health about bill assistance, but they declined because I didn't already have medical expenses for the year. The star is for the lack of pricing transparency. It's very unfortunate the way the health industry operates. I would have declined blood work to save myself money. The visit itself was inconclusive as well as the blood panel and I'm just out of a lot of money. read more

Wow! This place is remarkable. Firstly they have extremely easy parking right in front of the building. Since the entire second floor is all dedicated to UCI, it made it very comfortable and easy to find. This was my first time to a UCI facility and I truly loved how the staff welcomed me in such a friendly manner. I also appreciated that they helped me understand what is covered and not covered under my insurance. They really helped me also understand how I can improve my health. My son was rushed to UCI Health after fainting in the bathroom, and I truly believe it was a blessing he ended up here. He was in an induced coma for two weeks, and we stayed nearly three weeks in total. The doctors and staff did everything they could to avoid brain surgery, and because of their expert care, my son is now home and recovering well--expected to return to work in about a month. The nursing staff was incredibly compassionate and professional--special thanks to Jorge, Yungmi, Kendra, Kathy, Meelan, Leon, Matt, Brenda, and Maggy. Our social worker, Emma, was also very helpful and supportive. The medical team was amazing. Dr. Mohyeldin, Dr. Chen, Dr. Goodwin, Dr. de Virgilio, and the others truly saved my son's life. As someone who is managing my treatments while still working full time, I have yet to understand why it takes 1hr after vitals are taken for the nurses to obtain the medicine they need for my 45min treatment. I have arrived early from 30-5 min for my appointment and it's the same thing. I have shared my concerns with nurses several times and the pharmacy is blamed. But this makes no logical sense. Every month I arrive for the same treatment and it takes me 4 hrs to drive to and from this location then 2.5 hrs for a 45 min infusion. Something has to give ... are there other locations and less turnaround for medication from the pharmacy. If I have to confirm my appointment months, weeks, days and even minutes prior to check in, you know I'm coming, please do better to prepare and consider that 7 hrs I have to get local prescheduled care. read more

I have been trying for four days to cancel a CT Scan imaging appointment. I cannot do this through their website and their phone system is so convoluted that I can't speak to a real person. I am told by the machine that they will return my call in 17 hours, 5 minutes. Since I called at 9:00 am, I will expect a call at 2:05 in the morning. I am glad that they were so precise on the time so I can set the clock appropriately and get an extra five-minute sleep. I feel sure that the compensation package for the UCI medical facility director is a dozen times more than the salaries required to adequately staff a group of employees who will communicate in person with their patients, and still leave the director with enough money for a comfortable existence. This place has nice doctors and facilities and that would be great and all if it weren't for the fact this establishment is just like any big hospital and dead set to take your money. I've come here twice and gotten absolutely absurdly large bills that have taken MONTHS for me to be able to pay off (the first bill I got took me 8 months). The last time I went (and the final time I will ever go) I went in because I thought I might have a tumor. Doctor comes in for 5 minutes and says it's not then asks if I want my COVID and flu shot. I'm already there why not right? It's free at CVS so it must be free here. Nope. Try $300. I'm trying not to get nasty with my language here but I was fuming. I called their billing office asking for the itemized bill and the lady on the phone explained that it's because they charge $300 because it's administered by a professional and it's a patient visit. Yeah? The doctor was in the room for FIVE MINUTES then the nurses came for another ten maybe. Well that would have been nice to know because at that point I would have liked to drive my ass over to the CVS 5 minutes away and get it FOR FREE. I have health insurance mind you, and that was after all the BS charges so I had to pay that $300 out of pocket, which the billing services tried to spin and say "well your insurance covered the other $X amount!" Don't go here if you don't have the patience to fight their billing department and call insurance to get them to charge you fairly. No one should have to pay $300 for shots that can be administered for free at most other establishments. read more

If I had known that a 45-minute consultation with a resident neurologist would cost nearly $1,000, I would never have scheduled the appointment with UCI Health. After being rear-ended in a car accident, I was concerned about a possible concussion. Unfortunately, not only were the charges excessive, but the care provided was also disappointing. The information given by the resident neurologist (a doctor-in-training) was basic--something I could have easily found on any medical website--and they labeled this as a "treatment plan." The resident was briefly supervised by Dr. Crystal Jicha, who only spent about five minutes in the room at the end of the consultation. When I disputed the charges, UCI Health justified them by saying that since I was seen at a hospital, they were entitled to bill $797 for the appointment and an additional $180 as a facility fee. At no point during the scheduling process was I informed that the appointment would be treated as a hospital visit, which would result in such high costs. Based on my experience with the sub-par patient care and lack of transparency around pricing, I would not recommend UCI Health to anyone. read more

This hospital was incredibly rude during my stay after spine surgery. Their pain meds don't help with pain only put me to sleep and waking up in extreme pain and no one comes to help you. Some of the nurses have a really bad attitude and would only come close to me to give me meds. mind you the meds they give are tylenol and refused to give me a iv. They made me feel like i was making up my pain. One of the other staff came into my room and said i was gonna wake their baby patient because i was screaming in pain because they wouldn't give me pain meds. read more

I've had mixed results with UCI health. Loved my primary care doctor who was at the on Campus facility. Then they started charging a $100. Per visit 'access fee'. Of course insurance doesn't cover this since it isn't part of your care, so you get a bill in the mail the next month for a couple of hundred dollars. They were super efficient with their COVID vaccine clinics on campus - they could have been the model for efficiency and the way they managed everything. My last visit was for my booster at the Laguna Hills office. The nurse was super, however I spent 40 minutes waiting in the lobby. Apparently this was because they had some of their 'big wigs' there for a tour. The receptionist and office staff weren't super helpful or nice. Given the choice Hoag is a better option and maybe Providence is a better option as well. read more

It has taken 10+ hours to prove to them with countless calls, EOBs and even my insurance calling with me on the line to get things taken care of. I verified with a director of billing that the account would be paid in full finally, and then months later I get the wonderful call..."youre going to collections for $40" even after its been cleared out and closed. When I spoke to the woman on the phone, she got confrontational and rude again, and explained that I've spoken to so many people and have an EOB showing zero, but she didnt care. I am a healthcare worker and I received a bill from them after my Primary requested some labworks. It was my first time to go to UCI. I usually go to Quest but after my Primary Physician convinced me to go to UCI, I followed her instruction. When I received the bill, the first thing I did was to compare the prices at Fairhealthconsumer.org. I noted a lot of the tests were overpriced compared to the average prices in California. I called the billing department to seek explanation or clarify regarding my bills. Unfortunately, I have encountered an operator who not only failed to provide satisfactory answers but also raised her voice and exhibited an unprofessional demeanor. Such behavior is highly unbecoming of an institution like UCI and leaves a lasting negative impression on individuals who are already seeking resolution in a challenging situation. Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the exorbitant out-of-network laboratory prices imposed by UCI. It is disheartening to learn that the laboratory charges are significantly higher rates compared to other labs offering similar services. The exorbitant pricing scheme creates an unnecessary burden for patients who are already grappling with medical expenses. As a result, in the future, I will explore alternative, more cost-effective options elsewhere. Adding to my frustration, it has come to my attention that the UCI billing department refuses to negotiate or offer any form of discount, even when patients are willing to pay in cash. How long is too long to wait to be admitted to the Oncology unit from the Emergency room. I've been waiting for 8 hours. I think that is a bit much to ask. They keep telling me they are waiting for a room to be ready. It's now 1:00 am. I doubt they are discharging anyone at that hour. Why does it take so long. I'm so miserable. I have been suffering ear ringing since Nov. 2022 and after my primary doctor ran all tests that he could, but couldn't find out the reason, he suggested to get a second doctor's opinion at UCI Health, Anaheim location and I saw Dr. Hamid R Djalilian on April 27th, 2023. I spent most of the time waiting in the lobby, talking to assistant and Dr. Hamid spent not more than 20 minutes with me and below was how did the appointment go. I brought a copy of my X-ray image and Dr. Hamid's assistant uploaded and he viewed it with me for like less than a few minutes, then said to me that he did see there was anything wrong. I did have some nasal infections, then he suggested me to participate a medication that is NOT approved by FDA for migraine, I politely declined, trying to bring back to the reason that I came to see him for, and trying to ask some questions related to my symptoms, but Dr. Hamid brushed me off and brought up the experimental medication for the second time and tried harder to convince me to participate, I declined it again, but he did not back up, he insisted that I should consider, citing "think about it, your participation could possibly help others who are suffering." I was pretty upset at that point, said to him:"doctor, I came here to see if you can help ease or end my suffering, and I don't even have any migraine, why should I participate this experiment?!" I added, :"call me selfish if you like, I am more concerned about my suffering than others". I left the facility very disappointed for all the time I spent and I got nothing in return. I couple of weeks later, I received their bill - total of $1,090 before applied my insurance. So I reached out to their billing and explained my experience, in the past five months, after I have been kicked between multiple departments, all the times that I've spent, UCI Health insist the billing is "up to code", so no adjustment. I am stunned by how their arrogant decision. From time to time, I read stories about how many Americans got into financial difficulties due to being overcharged by medical facilities, here is my very first terrible experience - the most unreasonable and unethical experience that I ever had. Are medical institutes above the law? They can just charge whatever they want, even though their doctor was not even spending time on me, but busy promoting his experimental medicine? Since I didn't get a reasonable from them, I will seek for other department that protect my right. read more

I have been going to UC Irvine medical Center in the city of Orange California. I see my heart doctor there. Who actually comes down from UCLA a couple times a month. Every experience that I've had in my visits has been nothing but exceptional. Staff is great. My doctor Dr. Jeanette Lin is one of the best. A few months back as I was entering the building I tripped and fell. Scraped my knees. The receptionist saw me and came to my aid right away. They immediately took me in one of the examining rooms looked at my knee gave me ice for Idid a thorough incident report and even followed up the next day to see how I was. Excellent care. read more

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the doctors in this office but after reading reviews we decided to see Dr. Regan Chan at this office for our primary care doctor when we moved in 2016. Dr. Chan is a phenomenal D.O. and as my first D.O. - being a computer systems engineer myself, appreitate the holistic approach taken and focus on my entire body and mind. I never feel rushed off when at this clinic with Dr. Chan, nurse Karla, the phlebotomists or the fine people at the front desk.
