One random weekday morning, I had a huge craving for champorado and so, my officemates invited me to go have lunch at Kanto Freestyle Breakfast somewhere in Pasig. However, I found out that it was quite far from my office. It was two jeepney rides away in order to reach the place, so we decided not to push through, and I had to settle for instant champorado from the convenience store, which was quite disappointing. However, on my way home, the shuttle van I was in passed by this corner in Concepcion, and apparently, it bore a huge sign that says Kanto Freestyle Breakfast. So I thought, "That's weird. It has the same name as the one my officemates were talking about." That piqued my curiosity. I went off the shuttle and headed towards the food place. It had wooden beams supporting a roof and several tarpaulins that served as something like a curtain. There were also blinds made of wood too, giving it a feel that one is eating at home. I sat on a wooden bench, and a server approached me and handed me the menu. Everything on the menu was interesting, as they had a huge variety of pancakes, as well as silog. The first thing I ordered was the champorado, of course. I also included the fried suman with ube and ice cream. The orders came like almost 30 minutes after I ordered. The servers were friendly but i had to wave around a lot to get their attention. At least they were smiling when they were attending to my needs. Anyway, when i tasted their champorado, I was quite impressed. It was creamy, and they had put a generous serving of dried fish on top. However, the suman was too oily, and the rice was mostly uncooked. It looked like an art installation though, rather than food. It was good to look at and nice to appreciate. Although, my experience was not quite amazing with the place, which is probably because the place was quite new, I might go back so I can try their other interesting dishes. read more
