A delightful vegan/vegetarian friendly café complete with catering and to-go options. This is the perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner. At the recommendation of a friend, I stopped in for lunch last week. I ordered the Vegan/Vegetarian Farro salad with dried cranberries and apricots and garbanzo beans and a cinnamon dressing with the Aussie Pudding for desert. My friend has the Chicken lasagna layered with roasted tomato and fennel, artichoke and ricotta/feta cheese with a tomato artichoke cream sauce. Our food was made at the time of order so it took a bit longer but the wait was so worth it. The dried cranberries worked well with the cinnamon dressing and the Farro kept me full till dinner. The Aussie pudding was the icing on the cake. It's like a bread pudding with raisins and while had to take it to-go to get back to the office, it was still warm when I opened it up. Topped with fresh, hand-whipped cream on top, it put me in dreamland for the rest of the day My friend was equally pleased with her meal. She didn't offer to share and I don't blame her; her meal looked just as enticing. With a daily changing menu, I can't wait to come back to see what else they have to offer. read more

We could not be more grateful we decided to hire Kangaroo Kitchen to cater our wedding. The food is phenomenal, as we heard from many of our guests. It is seasonal, interesting, healthy and colorful. Roman also caters exceptionally well to dietary restrictions. Aside from fabulous food, the catering staff was all so kind and made sure everyone had a great time and plenty to eat. The highlight, though, is getting to work with Roman, the owner and chef. Through many COVID-related changes, he was flexible, empathetic, knowledgable, and went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was safe for our guests. We will be getting married in 2022 and with COVID forcing us to be working limited hours, we took advantage of picking our caterer early. We tried a handful of caterers in Grand Rapids and Kangaroo Kitchen won by a landslide. Our wedding venue, Port393 in Holland, gave us the recommendation to Kangaroo Kitchen as being one of their favorites. We scheduled our tasting and just meeting with Chef Roman I understood why! Him and his team are flexible with impeccable customer service, have the most unique menu, and food that is beyond incredible. Kangaroo Kitchen is an amazing restaurant addition to the Fulton Street Farmer's Market neighborhood (it's just a few blocks down from the market) and to GR in general. I recommend this cozy spot for anyone who likes trying new foods (they have a new menu every week based on available ingredients), fresh dishes with big flavor and local ingredients, and a quiet, relaxed and energizing restaurant experience. They are focused heavily on take-out, but there are 5 or 6 tables there to eat and relax. Chef Roman is very friendly, and his skill in his trade comes through crystal clear in his food and presentation. I cannot wait to go back to try more, as well as to use them for catering at work. We were drawn to Kangaroo Kitchen because of the vegan options. Sometimes that means compromise, but the meal itself did not disappoint. The restaurant is quaint and very inviting with a very friendly staff. We ate there and didn't wait more than 15 for our meal. The food was awesome and the presentation was truly something to behold. Roman & his team were absolutely incredible throughout every single step of the planning process. We booked Kangaroo Kitchen in early 2019 for our December 2020 wedding. Unfortunately with COVID we had to postpone and luckily were able to rebook with Kangaroo Kitchen for NYE 2021. Roman and Ashley made the entire date change process easy and helped with every bit of the re-planning as needed. They go above and beyond to make sure your timeline is perfect on your day which makes everything run smoothly! Our catering team the night of our wedding was also just amazing. They moved our guests quickly through the food line and there was plenty of time for people to grab seconds if they wanted! The appetizers were DELICIOUS and everyone is still talking about how delicious the tacos were. Also, you know the food is amazing when all three kids cleaned their plate from their special chicken and rice, too! We so appreciated how much time and effort was put in to making sure the menu & each dish was prepared safely and in mind of our allergies. We have 8/9 top allergens among just the two of us & it's rare my husband and I can go anywhere and eat safely. Roman put our minds at ease throughout everything starting on day one! Absolutely excellent food. Marinated chicken with garlic mash potatoes was amazing and with the most flavorful sauce I've ever had. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. Perfect portion sizes. We also had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it was so rich and decadent with a texture to die for. Will definitely be coming back here. Kangaroo Catering exceeded all expectations for our wedding last weekend in Montague, MI. We hired Chef Roman to cater not only the reception Saturday night, but also lunch and dinner Thursday and Friday for over 80 people, AND brunch on Sunday. Roman helped us with everything from the start - menu planning and budgeting (almost a year previous) to meeting at the rental place (6 months previous) to putting together a team for 4 days of flawless execution. The fact that the whole event was out of town didn't slow him down one bit. Everyone at the wedding was very impressed with all of the food and service and will be talking about it for a long time. This review is for the catering services only. I don't believe the restaurant is currently open as the Chef is in high demand for his professional services. We had the delightful experience of attending an event that Chef Roman (who paradoxically hails from Australia) prepared. The food was flavorful in a way that murmered pleasant sweet nothings to your palette as you ate. Meaning...don't expect the usual pairings. The Chef is inventive and adventerous in the way the way he put combinations together. The plating of the food is pure art - art d'gastronomique! The food does really look as pretty as the pics on his website. Seriously, if I know he's catering your event and I'm busy...I will consider re-arranging my schedule to make an appearance. :) read more

Three adults (one senior) and two small children attending 12/30/13 and couldn't have imagined a better experience (so much so, and we eat out all the time, that I had to post a review for the first time!) They were very accommodating to the small children (in fact bringing a tasting of the Korean chili sauce used on the hot wings to make sure not too hot for the children). Everything on the plate was thoughtful/well put together and healthy (including shredded pork with cilantro, crab cakes with dill, much more). Great vegetarian/vegan options - the salads were delicious (including a brussel sprout/kale mustard medley), vibe was eclectic/cozy, and the staff was super friendly. We had a 3 day party for our wedding and Chef Roman and his staff catered 6 meals and every single meal was absolutely delicious. We met with Chef Roman a year before, he set the entire menu for all 6 meals based on what kind of food we said we liked and the meals he came up with were so impressive we hired him without tasting a single thing! Everything he did from the food, to the service to the clean up was above and beyond anything that we could have asked for. Chef Roman catered our wedding in November 2016 and the food was game changing! Roman and his staff at Kangaroo Kitchen were so wonderful with our guests and very accommodating on our wedding day. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Out of all the compliments about our wedding, the most received by far was "the food was the best we've ever had at a wedding." So many of our guests asked who our caterer was and wanted Roman's contact information. The appetizers, salads, and main courses were perfect. In a world where wedding food has become dull and predictable, Roman and his staff at Kangaroo Kitchen provide a delicious change of pace turning the catering world on its head by offering dishes that are creative and fresh. Our guests raved about all of the dishes ranging from the Vietnamese pulled pork served with daikon and red cabbage relish with siracha aioli, to the salmon served over Moroccan couscous with tomato, cucumber, capers candied walnut and raisins. The food was also beautifully presented, especially the assorted roasted and grilled vegetable platter with roasted beet aioli. Chef Roman met with us prior to our wedding and allowed us to taste all of the dishes prior to signing the contract. We know that when our families think of our wedding day 10 years from now, they will still be raving about the food. My husband and I love to eat and we have a lot of good cooks in the family so naturally we wanted delicious food for our wedding this July and Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering delivered! Chef Roman was very professional and his food was to die for. Guests were raving about the food (especially the apricot glazed salmon and the arugula dill potato mash--SO GOOD!). They are a class act! Dinner buffet service was a breeze, they cut our cakes for us and we had a delicious meal without a single snag (and we even got to eat as bride and groom so believe me! YUM). This was Chef Roman's first time working at our venue and was able to coordinate with the venue staff to make everything work out the way we wanted it! One of the best decisions that I made in planning our wedding reception was to hire Chef Roman and his team at Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering. Chef Roman was very professional and reliable, but also super friendly. He has a lot of experience and I really felt like I could trust him through the whole process, which really put my mind at ease. And he is such a hard worker! I planned the wedding basically long distance. Chef Roman took the time to plan a menu specific to our needs and food tastes. He was able to answer a lot of logistical questions in terms of planning the event. He was able to make several accommodations based on our requests. And then on the day of the wedding he and his team executed everything flawlessly. From the moment his team arrived and the guests started coming, I didn't have one worry or moment of stress the whole evening. And the food tasted delicious! Everything was very fresh with high quality ingredients. He is really talented in cooking with different flavors and the food all turned out great. We received many compliments from our guests and many people asked about the caterer. Best of all, we felt that we had a wedding meal that was truly unique, memorable, and special for us.
