A bit conflicted with this review. The food was decent. A solid B tier. The room itself is fantastic. One of the nicer looking places for a somewhat quick serve experience. It could easily double as a higher end restaurant if it made some minor changes. What was weird was the server came by and asked how I liked everything. Which was nice. Then she proceeded to ask me to write a review, and I said that wasn't a problem at all. Then she insisted I do it in front of her. Well, that's where I drew the line. I said no once, but she kept insisting. I became a bit sterner and said I will not be writing a review in front of her. So that kinda soured the experience. I think I'll have to stop going to this place because of the customer service is getting out of hand. I had a bad experience 2 years ago when I ordered Uber Eats and waited for 2 hours. Until I had to call them for them to tell me they never made my food. So they gave 2 extra sodas as an apology so I took it as a one-off. Today I got pick up for kabob and I paid extra for sauce. My family member notified me that when they picked it up there was no sauce and that sauce is for "delivery only". So I walked in to ask about it, when I walked in the cashier was smiling and holding back her laughter looking at me. I didn't even get to the front yet and it made me feel really uncomfortable. I asked about the situation and she said there's no sauce and I said ok but I paid extra is there anything that can be done? And she said "ok but it's 60 cents" in a mean tone. Then she looked at my receipt and leaned over the tip jar so I felt uncomfortable and walked away. It's a shame but I don't feel comfortable ordering here ever again. I ordered the KK Fish they mentioned its a small portion (hit I should have ordered a side) and fellow diner ordered their chicken skewer and kebab combo. The chicken dish went well and it was a decent size portion. I enjoyed my fish dish as it was friend and then grilled I think. Nice spices. Should have ordered a side or two. Fries on the side were decent. Now comes the bad part I took a shawarma for take out and that didn't bode well. Maybe I chose the wrong version as that was flying off the shelf while there. This restaurant is probably one of the most consistently inconsistent places in Toronto! We have dine here and ordered takeout numerous times and most of the time have disappointing experiences. They're inconsistent virtually in every way - the food, service and overall experiences varies radically every time we come here. We've tried their meat kababs including beef/chicken kofta, veal fillet, beef and chicken breast and there are times that they're dry and tough and other times they come out tender and moist. And then their Challow (Afghan Rice) most of the times have an overpowering smell as if it was doused with lots of spices. But when you order it again in another day it tasted just right. Even their mere red chutney sauce is not saved from their inconsistencies. Normally this should be savoury and spicy. We just ordered today and they gave us a red sauce which is sickeningly sweet. Totally so different in taste from the red sauce we got before. I understand their food can be prepared by different cooks at different days and time. But as an experiment, we tried going on the exact same day/time/staff just to see if their dishes will be the same ... and it was as different as night and day. While we have good visits with this place, I don't think we will be returning as we don't want to play Russian roulette and experience the risk of occasionally being hit point-blank with terrible food. read more

Discovered this place by accident after shopping at the supermarket nearby. Intrigued by the pictures of their food, I went in and ordered. The bad parts: they had so many orders that it took forever to order and get the food. On top of that, there is no clear indication of how long it will take or who's turn it will be next. Creates an awkward and unpleasant experience waiting. They could improve a lot in that regard. We ordered from Kandahar with the realization that our plan to (finally) cook at home was just not in our fate due to the power cut. Hence after some searching on Uber eats and the very appealing offer Kandahar had, we went for it. The packaging and delivery was fantastic, no issues and we even got a cute "Enjoy your meal!" message written on the side of our delivery bag. All the food was in foil containers which kept it hot despite the fact that it was about a 30 minute drive from us. We got the beef kebab and rice served with a piece of Afghani naan. The rice was fragrant and plentiful, the naan was a huge piece and the kebab was beautifully spiced and made of great quality meat. The stand out of the show was definitely the two sauces served with the food, a chilli sauce and another garlic and herb sauce. We even considered just going to the restaurant to get more of the sauces, as we loved them so much and licked the tubs clean! The portion size is great for the price and both of us were left with bellies very full and content. Above all a really good dinner, one that we would definitely recommend. read more

I can't say the service was top-notch - the employees seemed bored and not what you would refer to as "friendly" - but I can't complain given just how delicious the food was. I decided to order the restaurant's namesake, which is "our Signature Kabab made of tender baby veal filet, marinated to perfection, grilled to a juicy finish." Everything included in my rather substantial platter pretty much knocked my socks off. The plentiful meat was so juicy and contained an irresistible char from the grill, and the roasted veggies and flavorful rice were about as ideal a side as you could imagine. The two included sauces were also fantastic, as was the included bread. I'll definitely be returning to try some of their other options, but I feel like I'll probably always order the exact same thing. read more

The proportion of chicken versus chicken was very off. There were only seven small pieces of rice with a whole bunch of rice. When I got gone, I was so disappointed with the food. The meat was dry and super overcooked. The amount of rice vs meat portion was just completely nonsense. The salad was bland with zero seasoning. It was just plain lettuce, one slice of tomate and one piece of cucumber. It was just a sad combo that I paid $15 for. It was a TON of rice for some burned small pieces of meat. I did not eat it. I wish I can give 0 stars, Kandahar Kabab has been one of my fav places but my recent experience has led me to leave this review. After trying to get in touch with someone for 5 minutes, I ordered an Sardhari Kebab over the phone for take out. They told me it will take 20 minutes so I waited. So around 9pm, I went into the restaurant to pick up the order and the cashier tells me they don't have change for $100, the total was $16 and change. I told them I didn't have smaller bills or debit to pay with. And then another employee tells me that they don't have change to give me so if I give them $101.40 then they can process the transaction. I tried to go to the car and get that but I didn't have change so I went back and told them. They didn't even try to do anything about it, I asked for my $100 bill and left. I drove from Ajax to this place after placing a phone order and yet they turned me around because they couldn't break a $100 bill after 9pm? The lack of customer service and empathy has left me with a very disappointing experience. Will never being going here. read more

Arrived at 11:45 and the staff aimed that there's no rice available. The restaurant opens at 11am. The table next to me had rice. I'm still confused about this, how can you not have rice available for lunch? About a 25min wait for my kofta meal with Naan. It's a lot of food and it tasted quite good. I really enjoyed the dressing on the salad and the hot sauce was spicy but with a lot flavour packed in. For about $10, there's a lot of value here. The mango smoothie I got is just basically mango puree from a can, it's still tasty but very basic. I did try my co-worker's fish and fries.. It's a whole grilled fish, a little over cooked and the fries were terrible. I would be open to coming back and hopefully they would be prepared for the lunch rush. read more

I bought Chicken Chaplee Kabab lunch. I got two huge Kababs with Rice, Salad and Naan. The Kababs were quite tasty. The amount of meat used is quite generous. The portions are big and good value for money. I was only able to eat half and save the rest. I ordered take out during the day and it took about 15 minutes. They have a spacious and clean restaurant. June 29, 2018 This time they were out of both of Chaplee Kababs and Lamb Chops. I ordered a meal of Chicken Kababs and asked if I could substitute the salad for something else. I confirmed that it would be at the same price. The lady gave me fries and later I noticed they had charged me extra. The fries were cold and stale. I left most of them untouched. It was 7pm and the restaurant was busy. It was also disorganized. The servers do not serve tables but, as is usual in self serve places, there is no place to get your own water. I went looking for water and a gentleman standing by kitchen doors asked me what I wanted and then directed a server to bring me a glass of water. I did not have the heart to ask for another glass as the servers looked pretty busy behind the till. The same person was helpful when I needed a carry-home container as they are stacked quite high. The place where you leave your trays was full. They really need one person clearing that space constantly when it is busy. And someone to bring water to customers. Went for dinner last night with a friend . What a mistake. Approached the front counter and had a few questions for the order taker who seemed bothered by my asking them . Very rude and short , we're not off to a good start. Ordered lamb chops and ground chicken kebabs with salad and rice . " Salad" was iceberg lettuce , 2 unripe tomato pieces and some onion ! No salad dressing. Rice was plain with some yellow turmeric solution poured over to simulate seasoning . Lamb was precooked , reheated and was fatty and gristle. A strong smell wafted from it . Chicken kebabs were OK, but heavily spiced. So heavy my dining companion was belching for 2 days and had some bountiful spice farts for 2 days as well . Not cheap either. With 2 mango drinks the cost was over $ 53.00 . Here's the deal breaker. I asked for extra yogurt Herb sauce and an extra hot sauce . Our front cashier , the rude one , told me that they didn't have extra and the ones standing right behind her were for the customers later that ?evening. Fuck I almost lost it . I informed her we had just spent $ 53.00 and if she couldn't provide an extra sauce she could have her meals returned for my money back . I think she realized at that point that she messed up and then blamed her manager for the situation of limiting extra condiments . Just not a lot of common sense was used and pleasing customer service skills are non existent. Food was basically horrible . Not pleased a father let his 3 yr old son dance on the table across from our booth though . Maybe that's ok in the old country but not in Canada . It's our regular go-to place for minced chicken kabob dinner. the Kofta Kabob is meh, not as good as the other Kabob place. I come here for the slightly larger portions for take-out. I have been to Kandahar Kabob twice and have mixed feelings. I have tried two of the vegetarian options on the menu. The first visit I had the veggie chapli plate. I found the taste of the plate a bit dry and starchy because of the bread, rice and chapli patties. I did like the mixed spices in the patties and the side salad and two dip options broke up the starchy taste a little. The plate was large and filling, but I didn't like it enough to want to order this plate the second time I visited. If you are not able to finish your meal you can grab your own to-go containers by the garbages. I have not tried the other vegetarian plate called veggie mince kabob. There is also the bolani vegan flat bread that can be either potato or mixed veggie filling. On my second visit, I had the veggie shawarma wrap. I was much happier with this option for $6. It consisted of the shwarma toppings, but no main filling. I found it a little heavy on the salt, but because of the great selection of toppings, it was flavourful and satisfying as a lighter fare. The wrap and sauces were great. The atmosphere of this restaurant is definitely not relaxing, despite its fire and water themed features. I like that there is no table service, but it is noisy and you can hardly hear the counter staff calling order numbers because of the distortion on the microphone and the awful acoustics. The wait time in my experience was reasonable. The large space allows a lot of seating making this is a great place to bring families. They offer a kids menu, sweet drinks and desserts. read more

The kanadahar kebabs is exactly the same as the other two orders but with an added spice rub which was nice. But I really wish the meat wasn't so well done. The interior has been decorated really well. There's a waterfall on a glass wall as you enter the eatery, and nice dark brown tiling on the walls leading you to the main seating area. The lighting inside is a bit dull, but there's enough natural light flowing through the big windows. The service pattern follows the usual at many Afghani places - you take your seats, and then go up to the counter to order and pay. The cashier calls your receipt number when the food is ready, and you go pick it up from the counter (Self serve). The menu was diverse, and had something for everyone. There is a Single Kabab section, where you can order single skewers of various kababs, with salad and naan included or you can substitute salad for rice. There's a section called Double Kababs, which has two kababs instead of one, and a plate of rice, salad and naan also included in the price or you can substitute rice for salad or salad for rice if you wish which will double up your portion of either rice or salad. If you just want the kabab, without any extras, they have that option as well. Tip to consider when having your meal :#1: Add a bit of Sumac seasoning (dark red powder in small packets which you can ask at the counter) onto your kabob meat. It has an almost sour fruity taste which really balances out and adds a unique edge to the kabobs. #2: You'll get small packets of butter that you're supposed to mix & melt into your rice that makes the rice taste even better. Overall, I would recommend Kandahar Kabab for their kababs and rice. Their food was very authentic & good quality. The service was quite friendly too. Also their prices are really competitive. I was so excited to visit the new Ajax Kandahar location but wow what a disappointment!! First no one knows how to take your order property, I asked for an order of quails which is showing on the menu but apparently it's sold out even though it's only 12pm in the afternoon. Then I decided to order something else and the cashier charged me a different price and when I questioned her she had to go and get someone else to help her on cash. I asked the cashier if I can have 2 dough for the drink, she had no clue what I am talking about. I had to point it out on the menu, so she can understand and her reply was we don't have that right now. I was even fine with this, since they just opened and even though they could be more organized and if you hire none Afghan cashiers, then please train them so they can understand the afghan menu. But once I received my food, I was extremely upset. I ordered lamb chops for myself and for my mom, wow... This must have been the worse lamb chops ever. Lastly after the disappointing dinner, I went to use the washrooms. Well you can't find any toilet paper in any of the bathrooms and when you get to the sink, of course there is no soap. Saying that I had a terrible experience here would be the understatement of the year. I am sad to say that I wasted a "cheat day" on one of the worst customer service experiences in recent memory. My tale begins when I decided to call in an order at 7:20 PM on Saturday night. The order was rather easy and painless and I was told my a rather cheery voice "Your meal will be ready in 20 minutes." By the time I got to the restaurant it was 7:45 and I quickly queued up and paid for my order. I waited 5 minutes, then 10, and finally the cashier asked me what my order was. When she spoke to the girl sorting out orders in front of the kitchen I could over hear them say my order had been given to another customer. When the cashier returned she told me, "we are about to prepare your food, sorry for the wait." For some odd reason she had not felt it important to communicate the error to me, i guess honesty isn't their best policy. In any case, I waited another 10 mins, then 15 minutes. I asked them what the hold up was and they said "it was coming, be patient". I stood around waiting for a further 10 minutes before I saw some activity where 3 staff members were looking up at the order screen confused as if they were trying to read ancient hieroglyphs. They finally sorted the orders out and one employee walked over and handed me my food, saying "sorry, we have added extra kebabs". As I attempted to voice my concerns about their service the staff member who handed me my food walked away from me as I was talking to her! For anyone following along, the total time spent standing around waiting for my food was?...anyone?...35 minutes, not including the 20 minutes they quoted me when I placed my order, in addition to the 20% of battery loss on my phone while perusing Facebook. The kicker! When I got home and opened the container there wasn't any extra food comped for the excruciatingly long wait. In all fairness... the food was OK, but the service I experienced that night was among the worst I have witnessed. With service like that, I cant imagine how they will be able to survive against the likes of Bamiyan or Afghan Cuisine just down the road. Absolutely abysmal - 1 Star read more

There were many spaces available (Went on a Tuesday evening around 4pm) basically the place was empty. You have to go up to the counter to order. They didn't have some of their items available from their menu (no mantu, no veggie mince skewers, no lassi, no ice cream.) Service was not the greatest. Food was okay...barg kabab was over cooked but the bread was really good. No one checks up on you at any point. read more

Overall, you do get good value for the money at this place. However, I found my beef filet mignon kabob had too many spices on it, drowning out the flavour of the meat itself. I wish they used fewer spices in order to bring out the natural flavour of the meet or used a different combination of spices. It took them about 10-15 minutes to prepare my order from scratch. The portions are way too big IMHO. I'd prefer less rice and the same amount of vegetables. As of now, the portions are way too big for one person. I felt heavy afterwards, I'll be honest. I guess it was the meat. Next time, I'll go for the tried and true chicken. The decor is nothing to write home about. Your average tacky decor, nothing to write home about. Would I be back here?
