My American relatives are here on vacation and their son served in Afghanistan for multi tours of duty. My cousin loved the local food and wanted to try a meal in Canada which lead us here. Our group dined indoors today (although the patio looked inviting too). After browsing the paper menu, we placed and paid for five dishes at the customer service counter. Each came with rice, salad and Naan. * Watan Lamb Shank - spiced lamb leg, raisin & carrot in basmati rice * Chaplee Kabob (Ground Beef) - hot mince meat marinated with dry crushed & fresh chilies * Chicken Breast Kabob - mild boneless chicken breast * Fish Dinner - marinated boneless fish * Barg Kabob - marinated filet mignon Overall, the meal was flavourful, delicious, and plentiful. The five meals including 5 cold beverages fed all seven of us, plus we had enough to fill 2 takeout containers. The cost per meal & cold beverage was under $20. Excellent value! Will return again...

    Veggie Mantoos

Wanted a bit of change for our weekend lunch and decided to give this location a try. With ads on doors about new veggie options. Ordered two bolanis (stuffed bread with potatoes and some greens - basically like a Indian stuffed paratha) and veggie Mantoo (dumplings with veggies) topped with lentils and some naans. The staff are super nice. Asked them questions on what things were made of and they knew stuff right away and made changes. The Mantoos are topped with yogurt and requested if they can do that in side. They did. No eggs or milk in any other products. The naans are brushed with milk prior to baking and requested they hold off. They did. So just like that everything became vegan. So this place is not only veggie friendly but vegan friend well! The naans are so good. A slight crunch on the outside and soft and airy inside topped with tons of black and white sesame seeds. The bulani is perfect with potatoes and tasted amazing. The mayo based dip the kids enjoyed with bulani. The mantoos grew on us. The lentils on the top, perfectly cooked, very mildly spiced. I had some lentils with naans and it was so good. The stuffing inside the mantoos is OK. Personally would have preferred some more spice in it, the Mrs loved it. We all agreed the the it was also a bit on the greasy side. Overall, we loved it and loved that the staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. Wish they had more choices. Will try the eggplant dish perhaps soon.

Filet mignon was excellent. Kofta was pretty good. Tandoori chicken was advertised as spicy but was hardly spicy; a bit dry but pretty tasty. White sauce is like tartar sauce & is not bad. Red is slightly spicy & is like Mexican salsa & is ok. Bread is pretty good, but the rice is slightly plain. You get quite a big portion but if you don't want rice, opt for the salad + naan option instead of the "dinner" and save $2. Lemonade was freshly made & tasted fresh. There's both sweet & salty versions. The sweet version was pretty sharp & not very sweet.

The food was great overall. We had a party of 11 and had all the different kebob's. They were all delicious. I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan so know about this food very well. The chaplee kabob was not as how it's made traditionally. It's fried and crispy on the outside. It's soft and delicious on the inside. This was not crispy on the outside and was dry on the inside. Maybe they adjusted the recipe for the western audience. I don't know. Five stars for the food. The space was open, and very clean. Five stars for the ambience. We came all the way from the US for a wedding in this town. I researched this store and wanted their afghan bread. See picture below. The lady, who's clearly not afghan, said when asked if they had this afghan bread, said it's some round bread. When we showed her pictures from their Yelp reviews and asked if she had those, she kept on asking if we have ordered already. Strange interaction ensued for a bit to say the least. The Afghan kid however, must be 17, was courteous and gentle. Give that man a raise. Overall it turned out the bread we wanted was the bread they always served. 2 stars for the service and front of the house training by the ownership. Will I go back? Definitely. The food was great, the place was nice and prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. Service could be improved with a bit of training. PS try this bread I'm talking about. They make it well and serve it piping hot. Amazingly delicious.

July 25/2020: This place was very busy. It was busy cause it had decent food at a decent price. Nothing really jumped out at me except two things; 1. It had the best tasting Naan that I've ever had, 2. The place was not very clean although they were trying to observe the distancing rules. The floor was dirty & so was the rest of the place that I could see. The seating area off to the left of the cashiers was disgusting but I'm not sure it made any difference since no one was sitting. There was trash on the floor & boxes strewn about. It tells me that management needs to take more time for clean up. I think I'd go again but if it weren't cleaned up...I'd pass.

We went for dinner and as soon as we sat I noticed that the table was not clean. We ordered food, chapli kebab, kofta kebab. The dinner plate comes with salad, two skewers of beet kebab and chapli kebab also comes in two(s) and each dinner comes with fresh naan. The kofta kebab was good but the chapli kebab was not good at all. It was too dry and not tender. I mostly go to Bamiyan, like it better there.

Been here many times. One of the best afghan food spots. We sat in the back so it was a little quieter. Everything came out perfect. Delicious flavors!

The service at Watan Kabob is mainly self-serve. Once you order at the front, the food is made and your number is called. That's when you pick it up. There are no waiters or waitresses, if you want water you have to buy water at the pop machine. Food is amazing. Extremely busy location especially during dinner time. If you plan to take the food to go, call in advance and it will be ready for you when you get there. Also, make sure to get extra sauce because the naan and garlic sauce together is a GREAT combination! FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM: 416tasty

3.5 Watan Kabob is a solid spot for a halal meal in Mississauga. Located in Meadowvale is this clean takeout spot. There are many cashiers and registers ready to take your order. Upon ordering and paying you get a number, and like McDonald's the numbers are shown on a screen when ready for pick up - so efficient! The restaurant is clean and spacious, both tables and booth seating. I went on a weekday evening for more of a snack so I just ordered a kofta kabob and naan. It was pretty cheap at only $3.50 for the kofta (great if you just want to add additional skewers to another main). The service was quite fast and I was eager to have the naan and kabob. The taste of the kofta was pretty good, but Bamiyan chains are slightly better in my opinion. The bread quality was the same as other Afghani restaurants - soft on the inside and very fragrant! In all a solid spot. If I'm in Mississauga again I would go!

Consistently good halal food every time. Service: A bit slow in preparing the orders, but that's how you know the food is fresh! Staff are friendly in taking orders. Food: The naan bread is very good - crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. The salad is prepared with fresh veggies, and the grilled kabob is mouth-watering. I've had the tenderloin and tandoori chicken, which are a bit on the dry side, but the flavours are great and the meat is well-seasoned. Overall: Hefty halal meal, great for when you're craving grilled meat!

We arrived at about 1:00 PM on a Saturday and ordered takeout. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, however they had a lot of cashiers open and we were able to place our order right away. The service was friendly and very efficient. They have a somewhat modern setup where you are given a number after ordering and when your order is ready, your number is called out and displayed on a TV screen. Since it was busy, it did take a about 20 minutes until our food was ready. We ordered the following: Wazeri Kabab Dinner: 1 chicken and 1 kofta kabab Sultani Kabab Dinner: 1 filet mignon and 1 kofta kabab Chaplee Kabab Dinner: spicy minced meat patties The portions of the dinners were very large as there provided a lot of meat and rice with each meal. The meat was well seasoned and the Chaplee was nice and spicy, however we were disappointed that all the meat servings were very dry. There were two sauces that came with the dinners, a red sauce which was a purred tomato sauce, and a white which seemed like some sort of ranch dressing. Both sauces did not really complement the meal Overall, the service was excellent, the potions were large, however the food was a bit disappointing because meat, although well-seasoned, was dry.

I placed an order for pick up i told the lady that i wanted two dinner meals with tandoori chicken and kebab, everything seemed just fine. Picked up my order 15minutes later and when i was paying for my order i asked the lady for some extra sauce with the meals and she rudely says "NO, IT'S 50 CENTS EXTRA. I said since when do you charge extra for sauce and she points right at this make shift sign that states "extra 50 cents for sauce". Ofcourse i didnt pay for extra sauce!! Why should i? I mean all the other locations give the sauces free of charge. FYI: THE SAUCES PROVIDED WITH YOUR MEAL IS ONLY FILLED HALF WAY, UNBELIEVABLE!! Anyhow my experience doesnt end there, i got back to my place and opened up the meals and seen she only gaved me tandoori chicken without the kebabs. I immediately phoned the restaurant back and spoke to same lady that took my order and i told her, hey you only gave me tandoori chicken when i clearly asked for kebab as well. Now, was i charged extra and just got ripped off? Because tandoori chicken meals cost less She says she didnt charge me extra, she only charged me for the "tandoori chicken meals" but whats odd is the amount didnt add up to two meals of tandoori chicken, it was more!! Her response to the missing kebabs was SORRY I FORGOT and thats it WOOOOOOOOOW!! so i asked what are you going to do now? are you going to make the kebabs since they are clearly missing.. she says: nono sorry. 1. She didnt offer to make the meal correctly and for me to come back. 2. She wasnt honest that she indeed charged me for tandoori chicken and kebab. -instead i was given tandoori chicken meals. Never again. Worst customer service. "She forgot" aka deal with it. Take your money else where!!

We only had to wait about ten minutes before our meals were brought to our table by the kind server that had taken our orders earlier. The food was absolutely amazing! The pork was very tender, and the salad had a nice flavour to it, especially when mixed with the rice. The naan was a great addition, as I ate it with the dipping sauces that were given on the side.
