Unsafe and unacceptable experience. An employee acted aggressively and made me feel threatened. I strongly advise avoiding this restaurant until they address serious safety concerns. Very tender meats. Rice I would say was more subtle in flavour, I thought it would be more fragrant but overall cooked well. Flavourful overall and quite heavy on spices as you can taste the umami in their kabobs. Generous portions, a bit on the higher end in pricing but at least they give you a good variety of food with their meals (salad, rice, veggies, protein, bread). The flatbread/naan that it came with was a bit dry for my liking, and tasted more like a 'foccaccia' texture than what I anticipated to be fluffy. Still decent. Service is good. Each came with rice, salad and Naan. * Watan Lamb Shank - spiced lamb leg, raisin & carrot in basmati rice * Chaplee Kabob (Ground Beef) - hot mince meat marinated with dry crushed & fresh chilies * Chicken Breast Kabob - mild boneless chicken breast * Fish Dinner - marinated boneless fish * Barg Kabob - marinated filet mignon Overall, the meal was flavourful, delicious, and plentiful. Wanted a bit of change for our weekend lunch and decided to give this location a try. With ads on doors about new veggie options. Ordered two bolanis (stuffed bread with potatoes and some greens - basically like a Indian stuffed paratha) and veggie Mantoo (dumplings with veggies) topped with lentils and some naans. The staff are super nice. Asked them questions on what things were made of and they knew stuff right away and made changes. The Mantoos are topped with yogurt and requested if they can do that in side. They did. No eggs or milk in any other products. The naans are brushed with milk prior to baking and requested they hold off. They did. So just like that everything became vegan. So this place is not only veggie friendly but vegan friend well! The naans are so good. A slight crunch on the outside and soft and airy inside topped with tons of black and white sesame seeds. The bulani is perfect with potatoes and tasted amazing. The mayo based dip the kids enjoyed with bulani. The mantoos grew on us. The lentils on the top, perfectly cooked, very mildly spiced. I had some lentils with naans and it was so good. The stuffing inside the mantoos is OK. Personally would have preferred some more spice in it, the Mrs loved it. We all agreed the the it was also a bit on the greasy side. Filet mignon was excellent. Kofta was pretty good. Tandoori chicken was advertised as spicy but was hardly spicy; a bit dry but pretty tasty. White sauce is like tartar sauce & is not bad. Red is slightly spicy & is like Mexican salsa & is ok. Bread is pretty good, but the rice is slightly plain. You get quite a big portion but if you don't want rice, opt for the salad + naan option instead of the "dinner" and save $2. Lemonade was freshly made & tasted fresh. The food was great overall. We had a party of 11 and had all the different kebob's. They were all delicious. I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan so know about this food very well. The chaplee kabob was not as how it's made traditionally. It's fried and crispy on the outside. It's soft and delicious on the inside. This was not crispy on the outside and was dry on the inside. Maybe they adjusted the recipe for the western audience. I don't know. Five stars for the food. The space was open, and very clean. Five stars for the ambience. We came all the way from the US for a wedding in this town. I researched this store and wanted their afghan bread. See picture below. The lady, who's clearly not afghan, said when asked if they had this afghan bread, said it's some round bread. When we showed her pictures from their Yelp reviews and asked if she had those, she kept on asking if we have ordered already. Strange interaction ensued for a bit to say the least. The Afghan kid however, must be 17, was courteous and gentle. Give that man a raise. Overall it turned out the bread we wanted was the bread they always served. 2 stars for the service and front of the house training by the ownership. Will I go back? Definitely. It had the best tasting Naan that I've ever had, 2. The place was not very clean although they were trying to observe the distancing rules. The floor was dirty & so was the rest of the place that I could see. The seating area off to the left of the cashiers was disgusting but I'm not sure it made any difference since no one was sitting. The service at Watan Kabob is mainly self-serve. Once you order at the front, the food is made and your number is called. That's when you pick it up. There are no waiters or waitresses, if you want water you have to buy water at the pop machine. Food is amazing. Extremely busy location especially during dinner time. We were in the area and picked this restaurant due to their high ratings and proximity. We ordered the chicken tandoori wraps and beef mantu. Both the items were flavorful, the wrap was basically a few pieces of tandoori kabab with afghani salata with a side of white sauce and spicy sauce, it was tasty and the price reasonable. The mantu were not traditional small dumplings rather they were large pieces, I personally like the individual bite mantu. The taste was ok, nothing too great. I would visit this place if I was in the neighborhood. The location was nice and clean and many workers. The reason I took one star away is that we had ordered from one of there other three locations and when we arrived we learned we were at the wrong location despite the fact I asked the girl on the phone if this was the Missisauga location, unbeknownst to me all their locations were in Missisauga but different areas , I'm not from this area so I had no idea, I think they should have the different locations within the name because we had to wait an additional half an hour for the order. We arrived at about 1:00 PM on a Saturday and ordered takeout. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, however they had a lot of cashiers open and we were able to place our order right away. The service was friendly and very efficient. They have a somewhat modern setup where you are given a number after ordering and when your order is ready, your number is called out and displayed on a TV screen. Since it was busy, it did take a about 20 minutes until our food was ready. We ordered the following: Wazeri Kabab Dinner: 1 chicken and 1 kofta kabab Sultani Kabab Dinner: 1 filet mignon and 1 kofta kabab Chaplee Kabab Dinner: spicy minced meat patties The portions of the dinners were very large as there provided a lot of meat and rice with each meal. The meat was well seasoned and the Chaplee was nice and spicy, however we were disappointed that all the meat servings were very dry. There were two sauces that came with the dinners, a red sauce which was a purred tomato sauce, and a white which seemed like some sort of ranch dressing. Went there for an early dinner. This during non rush hours, with exception of one table, the rest of the restaurant was empty. The tables had not been cleaned and were not exactly inviting, the seats were covered with food spilled by previous customers and never cleaned. The food was mediocre at best, the kofta kabob was not cooked when served and he salad had no dressing on it at all. Sent back the kofta asking for them to cook it some more, no apology or anything, when it was brought back out still was not cooked and barely heated up. The grilled tomatoes were also undercooked. The only nice thing about this dinner was the naan that came with the dinner and the fact that when I tried to order one as a side, they told me the dinner comes with it and asked me if still wanted an additional order of naan. I've been coming here for years and the place has maintained quality and consistency. We tried the Chicken Kofta kebab & spicy tandoori chicken. The chicken kofta was soft and flavourful and juicy. The tandoori chicken was well marinated and cooked to perfection. The chicken breast was not at all dry. Get the naan and salad option if you dont care for rice and dont want to be too full. The food quality is good, better than average. Service is just about average, with moderately fast turn around time in delivering orders. We tasted almost all the items in the menu in last 2 years!! Rating: The food rating is a 5*. This restaurant always takes me to my happy place. I have yet to find a better place that does Kabobs as well as this one in the GTA. We came on Easter Sunday for lunch and as always, this place was busy. This restaurant is located in the Burger King and Mandarin plaza in the corner of Hurontario and Matheson. There's plenty of parking available even if it's busy. Similar to other Kabobs places, it's a cafeteria style in which you order and pay first, and then pick up your order. First come, first serve in terms of seating. There's sufficient amount of seating but it can get tight when it's busy. The good thing is that there's three registers serving customers. The Good: The food is on point. In terms of taste, there's no equal. We had the Tandoori Chicken, Beef Tikka and the Wazeri. All dinner size along with the Naan. Big serving portion and the Naan was hot and delicious. There's a jar of tap water available along with cups if you don't want to get drinks. They give you the tzatzaki sauce but ask for the hot one too. It's not really hot. The Bad: The waiting is a minimum of 20-25 minutes. Also picking up your order is a bit hectic as the orders do not come in the order of your number. As soon as the food is done, your number gets called. So people who placed their order later might get their food before you. Overall, that's a small price to pay for some amazing Kabobs. Highly recommended! P.S. This place bears the same decor as the restaurant that came before it, with Asian-inspired design and surprisingly, this look works! The space is modern and spacious with the ordering area in the front of the restaurant with additional seating in the back. You order food at the bar and wait for your number to be called on the screen in the seating area, like a hybrid sit-down/take-out restaurant which keeps things moving quickly and efficiently. The food was just as good! We ordered 2 dishes (the tandoori wazeri dinner and a lamb shank with a side of naan) as well as a yogurty drink called doogh. All the meats were moist and incredibly flavorful and the naan was still warm. We'd never had a drink like doogh before although the flavors went really well with the meats + side dishes! Had dinners 1 "spicy" (not really) tandoori chicken and dinner 2 -chicken kebob salad and naan. The dinner option with rice is not worth the extra bit as rice was meh . Average tastes at best all around. Negatives: 1)Wait time longer than they provided - said 20 min turned to 30 minutes 2)Kitchen staff some NOT wearing masks at all! , others wearing inappropriately - nervousness to eat as obviously in a covid19 environment - one would expect adherence (considering dine in entrance has a security guard - however covid19 spacing is NOT enforced either.) I've tried other places but Watan's proteins and sauces always win me over. Firstly, let me say their white sauce and red sauce are fire, if they were to bottle them I would buy them no questions asked. My boyfriend and I typically get the Wazeri dinner or the Tandoori Wazeri Dinner. Each comes with beef kabob and grilled chicken/tandoori chicken with rice, salad and naan. We always fed a chapali piece on the side. You're getting great quality and a good sized portion for what you're paying (for our order, about $22, that 2 people can comfortably eat from). However during our last visit we found that the sauce containers were sparsely filled and they definitely cut back on the amount of rice in the container. I would chalk that up to COVID and/or their demand of orders. They are abiding by COVID rules and only allowing a few people in to retrieve orders at one time. I'm hoping the quality will pick up/continue to be as good as it has been because I'm a loyal customer! read more
