I love the flavours of all the Afghan food I've had in the past so I was looking forward to the opening of Kandahar Kabab in Pickering, close to home. They have a fairly big menu to choose from, including chicken, beef, veal, lamb, fish, and vegetarian dishes. I decided on the Chaplie Kabab, which was two ground beef patties, rice, salad, and naan. At only $12.50, it was a great deal for the generous portion size. It was spicier than I had anticipated but the flavour was good. This was a good meal. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience at Kandahar Kabab left a lot to be desired. Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was trays and litter on a lot of the tables. They hadn't been cleared. I later saw a young girl clearing and sanitizing tables while frequently checking her phone. Their order/pickup counter is located across the back of the restaurant, with the menu displayed on a cluster of six TVs. It looked attractive until I tried to read it. The fonts were so small, I was squinting. To make things worse, the screens kept changing content. The people behind me had the same problem. Luckily, I spotted a page taped to the counter which had a QR Code that I scanned to access the menu on my phone. I placed and paid for my order and joined the other people waiting around at the counter. Apparently, some of them were getting frustrated with the wait time. It was easy to see in their expressions. The wait turned out to be 25 minutes for me. Yes, they were busy, but they also didn't seem to know what they were doing. Some of the staff seemed to be standing around waiting for instructions. The noise level was fairly high, with a lot of echoes, due mainly to the hard wall and ceiling surfaces. This could easily be fixed with sound absorbing panels. The counter staff shouting out pickup numbers didn't help. I finally got my food and found a clean table near the entrance. While eating, I noticed a man and woman kinda wandering around the restaurant, occasionally puttering around with taping up signs and then sitting and eating. I assume they were managers. She was nicely dressed while he was very casual in sweatpants, running shoes, and baseball cap. Neither was wearing a mask. Am I being too harsh? Were these issues the result of new inexperienced staff? Maybe some of it, but with the experience of their other locations, they could/should have been better prepared. I liked the food and I'll be back at a later date. Hopefully, they will have corrected most of these issues.

Ordered a veggie falafel shWarma for 5$ and a lamb kebab for 17$. No tip option! Nice! Lamb kabab was good. Falafel was so so. Must try for the freshness of the food. Bread was very very bad thatsy 3/5. Ambience was not bad. Service was great!

Ordered pickup from Kandahar. The food is always good but the service is pathetic. The servers are super rude. Uber eats said food was ready for pickup but we had to wait for 20min to actually pick up food. This has happened multiple times when we order food for pickup and it is never ready on time. We come back only because food is good but if I can find same food elsewhere, I will stop coming here. The staff is the absolute worst. We could see the people standing behind counter laughing and joking meanwhile there were 6 people waiting in line to be tended to.

Very spacious beautifully decorated and designed the restaurant. Nice for a family outing or hang out with the friends. I always get the chicken thigh pieces skewer. Always tasty. However I think it's a little bit more flavorful at the Scarborough Markham and Finch location. It's never a miss there, but much bigger and beautiful here. Lots of parking. Halal.

5 star food. Wow, get the whole fish. Get some skewers, rice, bread. It's not for everyone, but try the lamb shank - it has a sweeter rice with plump raisins. Enjoy the virtual bride taking selfies with the menu!! Docking a point for minor operational issues, but know you've come here for the food, not the service. (Owners - fix the door open button in the washroom)

When I was looking for a good shawarma place in Pickering, a search of positive reviews led me to…read moreAfghan Kebab and Shawarma. Clearly, we made an excellent choice, because my entire family was so pleased when they dug into their meals! We ordered online and, like mostly everything else that I've ordered on line, it would likely be better if I ate in-house or even picked up my order. However, it was, nonetheless, excellent, satisfying, flavourful food. Here's why its worth 4 stars: My husband ordered a 2 falafel combo, and reported that it was done perfectly. The falafel balls were plump, crispy and tender, and the sauces that he ordered complemented the wrap perfectly! Next time, he said, he will order turnip. The turnip wasn't listed as pickled, but actually it is, and it really enhances the foods. My son said that his chicken shawarma was "one of the best that I"ve had in Pickering." However, he mentioned that he would have preferred the pita to be more robustly toasted. This, however, could have been a result of the wait for delivery. My duaghter had wings and fries. She loves her food extremely seasoned, and added MSG to hers, but otherwise found them to be excellent. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate. I chose tabbouleh rather than salad, and that was excellent, and very generous with the parsely. the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the rice was beautifully cooked, with long grains that did not stick together at all. I have tried, and never succeeded, to get this same non-sticky and long grained finish on the rice, so the rice was a treat. The turnips and pickles perfectly complimented the dinner. Although the menu doesn't stipulate, the turnips are pickled and very tasty Overall, this is an excellent restaurant, and an outstanding shawarma place. It's family run, and I really enjoy supporting local restaurants. It is conveniently located at Whites and Kingston Rd.. There's plenty of parking, but not always totally close to the restaurant. We will certainly be ordering from here again!

Although I don't eat Afghan or Middle Eastern cuisine regularly, I do enjoy it. With three vertical rotisseries, the house specialty seems to be chicken shawarma. It looked good, but I had a craving for beef so I ordered the Beef Kebab, served with with rice, salad, and a choice of naan or a drink. The beef kebabs are made to order so it took a few minutes. At least I knew it was fresh! The included salad is also assembled as ordered, with your choice of ingredients. The seasoned rice was also freshly made. The entire plate was dressed with a variety of seasonings and sauces. Finally, the meat was placed on top and also dressed with sauces. Nice! Everything was delicious and I could see that it was obviously freshly made to order. The meat was well seasoned, tender, juicy, and flavourful, especially with the sauces on it. I even enjoyed the salad, where every component of it seemed fresh. This was a very good, flavourful meal. Beyond the good tasting food, the two fellows behind the counter were friendly and engaging. I think I'll have to come here more often!

We were able to secure a booth near the side of the restaurant which didn't have any members of the team, which was large enough for the both of us. We then placed our order, which was the chicken kabob meal for my husband, and the butter chicken meal for myself. We then sat down, and waited about 10-12 minutes for the meal to arrive, which was perfect timing considering that there was a large team to serve while we were there. In the butter chicken meal, I was given a large container of butter chicken, along with pita bread, rice, and salad. I was impressed with how well everything tasted, as the chicken was tender, and the rice with the salad was abundant. I couldn't even eat all of the food, as there was too much of it! Overall, this place was definitely top-notch; excellent amount of food choices, great value, and nice service; would definitely come back if I am in the area again, and would highly-recommend to anyone that is looking for an authentic and delicious meal!

If there was anything good that came out of my failed dinner experience at their neighbour, it was finding this little gem! We placed an order over the phone for pickup. I wanted to get an order of the Tandoori Chicken Fries but they were out of fries that day. Have a back up just in case! I know it's called the Kabab Shoppe but I've been craving butter chicken for a long time. I got that knowing I could mooch off everyone else for a bite of their kabab (I know I'm the worst). The sauce for this butter chicken was perfect. Flavourful without heat! Their naan is a little bit different than what you would get at most other places. The outside is fried a golden brown and the inside is very fluffy and almost reminds me of like a focaccia. I tried a bit of the Kabuli Palau which is a lamb shank over rice with carrots and raisins. This was really good and my definite go to the next time we order from here. My partner gave me a piece each of shish kabab and barg tikka and I'm a little ashamed to say that I couldn't really tell the difference. They were both decent though! A little Covid note as well, there is no indoor seating right now. There are plexiglass barriers separating the counter from guests.

The person said no on the phone, but it was late and it was the only place I could get something protein heavy after a good workout. So I said it's cool, I went and ordered the tandoori chicken wrap on whole wheat with an extra chicken seehk skewer on the side. It wasn't busy because it was a weeknight and it was around 10:30pm, but the food was being freshly made, which I appreciate. Before packaging the meal, seems like the counter person recognized my voice and asked if I wanted the extra skewer in the wrap, which I said yes please. So main mission accomplished lol, it was either them or me that was going to do it, so I didn't let it bug me. When I opened the wrap and took my first bite, it was perfect. Great tang on the yogurt sauce, beautiful mix of ground chicken and tandoori chicken in a fresh wrap. It was great. It's exactly what I needed after the workout. The food was delicious and I recommend the food here. So why the 4 stars? Because although I don't sweat the small stuff, someone who does, could've easily chose not to come here due to the response over the phone, and they would've missed out. Sure that's a them problem, but it's also the difference between critical thinking and being a robot. For me, I'll potentially be a once a week regular, maybe twice a week guy after a workout to get a post workout meal. But if a business doesn't capitalize on that initially, then that's a miss on their part. Simply an area of opportunity to better prepare for. Anyways, hopefully you guys try this place, it's really good and really fresh.

Generally when you go to Osmow's it's always best to stick to the classic dishes like Chicken on the Rocks, Stix (or half & half) or alternatively falafel or beef if you're in the mood for something different. I honestly would never advise someone to get a wrap from Osmows in general, especially on their first visit.
