We had come to this restaurant on a Saturday evening at around 6:30 pm for dinner. When we had arrived, there was a large soccer team there having dinner therefore, it was quite busy. We were able to secure a booth near the side of the restaurant which didn't have any members of the team, which was large enough for the both of us. We then placed our order, which was the chicken kabob meal for my husband, and the butter chicken meal for myself. We then sat down, and waited about 10-12 minutes for the meal to arrive, which was perfect timing considering that there was a large team to serve while we were there. In the butter chicken meal, I was given a large container of butter chicken, along with pita bread, rice, and salad. I was impressed with how well everything tasted, as the chicken was tender, and the rice with the salad was abundant. I couldn't even eat all of the food, as there was too much of it! Overall, this place was definitely top-notch; excellent amount of food choices, great value, and nice service; would definitely come back if I am in the area again, and would highly-recommend to anyone that is looking for an authentic and delicious meal! read more

I spotted the sign for this place after what would be a disappointing experience at the place next door. If there was anything good that came out of my failed dinner experience at their neighbour, it was finding this little gem! We placed an order over the phone for pickup. I wanted to get an order of the Tandoori Chicken Fries but they were out of fries that day. Have a back up just in case! I know it's called the Kabab Shoppe but I've been craving butter chicken for a long time. I got that knowing I could mooch off everyone else for a bite of their kabab (I know I'm the worst). The sauce for this butter chicken was perfect. Flavourful without heat! Their naan is a little bit different than what you would get at most other places. The outside is fried a golden brown and the inside is very fluffy and almost reminds me of like a focaccia. I tried a bit of the Kabuli Palau which is a lamb shank over rice with carrots and raisins. This was really good and my definite go to the next time we order from here. My partner gave me a piece each of shish kabab and barg tikka and I'm a little ashamed to say that I couldn't really tell the difference. They were both decent though! A little Covid note as well, there is no indoor seating right now. There are plexiglass barriers separating the counter from guests. read more

Terrible customer service and processes. What kind of selfish lazy ghetto restaurant is this? We came in as large group and requested the separate room. Firstly, they told us the room would accommodate 10 people but it only accommodates 8. We have the room reserved and they didn't even clean the tables! It was still full of grease and Left Behind chunks of someone's Kabob. They wanted us to order and pay for our dishes at the register separately and then once our dishes are ready, they wanted to scream out the number all the way from behind the cash register out to the enclosed room. So we had to come out from the table one by one when our number was called like a fish market. How disorganized and tacky! Even McDonald's has better customer service than this. And then when our dishes were done, we sat with dirty dishes in front of us for 45 minutes+ and the staff never came to pick it up even tho the place was empty and they had time. When we brought all the dishes to them to make their job easier, they didn't even smile or thank us. Also when it was cold when we came in, we asked them to turn on the heat in the place, but they said they didn't want to because they didn't want to make it hot for the chefs. So screw the customers' comfort!!! They're not concerned about you. If you're going to have that segregated room, you need to at least deliver the dishes to the people, especially if it's a large group and they are spending that much money with you. We had the boulanee appetizer. A hefty portion was served. I found the kabobs to be a bit dry and the taste was not outstanding compared to competitors. The worst part of all of this is that the owner was one of the staff. I won't be returning. read more

I'm happy to see a new kebab shop in Pickering! My husband and I have been here a couple of times now and have tried the barg, chicken breast, shish and tandoori kebabs. The meat was tender and flavourful but of the four, the tandoori and shish kebabs are definitely the winners for me. The redesign of this space is inviting and comfortable to be in. The service is quick and friendly making this restaurant a great place to enjoy a meal. I look forward to working my way through their menu and supporting this new restaurant in our community. A bit expensive for the type of food and amount of meat you get versus everything else. We got sooooo much rice that by the time we finished the meat there was still like a full box of rice left! The naan bread is fluffy. Samosas are nice and bite sized made from fluffy puff pastry. Meat were seasoned well and not dry. The tandoori is super popular here but the other meats are good too!! It's nice to have a good mix of the meat so the meal doesn't get tiring to eat. Comes with good side sauces and salad. read more

I had a craving for some Persian kabobs and my trustee Yelp app told me that this place serves up Persian kabobs so I came in for a pick up. The dark interior is somewhat unfriendly in my opinion and not somewhere I would like to dine in with my little one. But that's just me. Upon looking at the menu, it was pretty obvious that I was in an Afghan kabob place, not Persian, as I hoped for. But since I was already there, I decided to try their offering of mixed kabob platter ($45) of tandoori chicken kabob, chicken (yellow marinade) kabob and ground beef kabob over rice, also served with naan (more like flatbread) and a side of salad. Although the food wasn't bad, I was disappointed that it wasn't the Persian kabobs I was craving. Tandoori chicken kabob had a pretty good flavour that even my picky 5 year old ate. The yellow marinaded chicken was the usual kind you get at most kabob places. The beef kabob was mixed a little too much, it had a pasty texture. The rice was good and plentiful and the accompanying naan was also pretty decent. I may go back if I have a craving for their kabobs but not if I'm in the mood for Persian kabobs like I was before. read more

Tried out variety of dishes - pretty much their whole menu Great flavors, their Mantoo is one of the better ones from most places I've had...I usually don't like Mantoo, but it was good here. The lamb shank with rice was amazing. Amazingly tender lamb (like butter!) Tandoori chicken on Fries was ridiculously good! The combination is awesome? - def ask them to sauce it up! Came here with my friend for a post workout meal and this seemed to be the healthiest option around, and I'm really glad I stopped by! I really loved the atmosphere and decor had a carry homelike and cozy feel to it. I ordered a tandoori chicken wrap and it was blessed. Came here to try out their food. I had the falafel with fries while my niece had the beef shish kabob. Food was tasty and I like that you can get the main courses without rice (just salads and naan) for a cheaper price. The fries was a little too salty for my liking. Place is nice and clean. The Kabab Shoppe serves Afghan bbq, and I have been there many times. I recommend the Mantoo, which has a nice light pastry and is well-stuffed. The dish that I order every time is Kabuli rice with Lamb Shank. This is so good that my Mother asks me to bring it for her, all across Toronto to her house in the West End! A few times, the lamb has been a bit overcooked (hence the 1-star ding) but generally it is moist and flavourful. The Kabuli rice is consistently delicious. read more

Visited here recently. Accidentally ended up ordered "platter 2" aka platter for 4 instead of "mixed grill for 2" (which is actually for 2). Confusion abound.. They were nice about it and knocked off the drinks we purchased because of this confusion. We received SO MUCH food. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend it. The kabobs were juicy and fresh. The decor and lighting were nice for a place where you have to order and pick up your food from the counter. With dishes like Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Chicken Karahi on the menu, I expected bold flavours but found the food rather bland. What I received was different from what was described on the menu (white meat vs. thigh). The ratio of main ingredient to sides was definitely in favour of the sides. Presentation was lacking, with mismatched plates. My dining companion received his soup in a square bowl placed in a round bowl. Huh??? He did, however, say that it tasted good. This place is a wonderful addition to the area. It is clean, with friendly staff and with great tasting food. My recommendations are: mantoo - a tasty steam dumpling filled with ground beef and drizzled with light fresh yogurt; bolanee - a roti filled with tasty potato; mains - tandoori chicken kebab, or shish kebab. I find the tandoori chicken has great flavour and so moist. They offer beef korma - although it's not on the menu and the chicken breast kebab will not disappoint either. The naan is typical Afghani naan and is a great side if you pick the korma. Very nice host who offers suggestions for the undecided. I plan on trying all dishes! Our overall experience was amazing as the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was great, and the prices were very reasonable. Good location in Pickering near Scarborough and Ajax. Lovely store design and interior decor. I ordered the Shahi Kabab platter with rice, naan, and a salad for a solid $13. My family of eight had an opportunity to dine at Kebob Shoppe. We all were so happy to have this restaurant in our area. The strength of any restaurant lies in product, service and its ambiance. This was our unanimous reaction that they excel in all three factors. We had Boulanee and Manto as an appetizer. Then ordered main course; mix platter with rice and nan, and chicken karahi. Grill was baked to its perfection. Consistency of tenderness was very good. My personal liking is boulanee with their homemade dip. By chance had a dialogue with the owner and found him a very gentle man with good sense of professional ethics. But also provide tandoori chicken, chicken karayeii(curry chicken) as some of their options. Some of the things I have enjoyed was the Mantuu(Afghan minced beef dumplings), kabuli (rice topped with carrots raisins)with Barg(sirloin cubed ). The food was excellent! My husband and I are foodies. We ordered food for 10 people and it was more than enough. The food was not spicy at all, more flavourful if anything, which I love, this way the individual can add spiciness to their liking as needed. The rice was very tasty and I really liked the aroma. The beef kabob and burger was juicy even the next day left-overs. The Tandoori chicken and the yellow marinade chicken were 2 different mild flavours and were cooked well, soft and not overly done. I'm so glad I tried this place out. I don't ever opt for Mediterranean food because of the high price point and often there's more salad than actual main course and meat is dry. This was not the case at this restaurant, good quantity, good service, good pick. I would recommend their dumplings, it was again flavourful, had onions, ground meat and split peas and was something that I had never tried before but was so glad I got it.
