Stumbled in this place and glad I did. It was the juiciest ans tender skewers. We got a mix of the skewers from the Koobideh, chicken and Barg skewers. The Barg is thr best followed by the koobideh and chicken. Something to get is the Mast-o-Khiar, it's a great add to eat with the rice and the Pita bread. Can't wait to come back again! Barg Wrap (Steak) Shawarma Plate We stopped in today and ordered take out for lunch, after a friend had recommended this place to us. We spoke with the hostess and she was an absolute sweetheart. We did not know they have been around since 2008! However, there is new ownership this last year. I must say there's a reason people are recommending the food. There is free parking in behind the restaurant. The interior is cozy and has tables for dining in. We opted for a wrap and a plate; splitting both. The plate was loaded with rice, garlic sauce, hummus and lots of chicken shawarma. Topped with another sauce, this was the perfect combo. The meat was juicy and flavorful. There were multiple dressings to choose from for the salad. The Barg wrap was a steak wrap and my hubby commented on how tender the meat was. The wrap was an ok size and was a nice mix of veggies. All in all we had a solid experience and will definitely be back to try more of their menu. read more

Oh dear. I'm afraid something has fallen off the rails at Cyrus. We haven't been here for a while since we're not in Oshawa often but it was my husband's birthday and he wanted chicken shawarma. I never order the shawarma but he swears it's the best he's ever had. I opted for their barg because it's always been fantastic. Not so much this time. The meat was so over-cooked that it was actually difficult or eat. The salad and rice were great but the meat was like boot leather. Apparently the shawarma tasted as good as it always has however, my when husband dug deep into the rice and put a big fork full into his mouth, he chomped down on a rather large piece of crumpled up aluminum foil. For the life of us, we can figure out where it came from since the food was in styrofoam containers and the only other thing we were given were plastic utensils and napkins. Although my husband thoroughly enjoyed his shawarma (sans foil), I was rather disappointed with my dish. I guess if there's a next time, I'll go for the shawarma too. read more

Went to Cyrus again recently... not good. Very tasteless food and low quality, when it always used to be so good. There is a new owner. Cyrus is not there anymore (new owner will not tell you that and says he is coming back). Thankfully Cyrus is opening a food truck up on Winchester Road with the other food trucks where we will be able to get all the delicious food we are used to getting from him. Overall decent place. Friendly and clean and tasty. I got a skewer or chicken and a skewer of steak, combo #8. It's was $18. Bit on the high side. What blew me away is when I asked for some hummus on the plate.. Wanted to charge extra. I wasn't sure how good their hot sauce was or how spicey it was so I asked if I could have it on the side, also an extra charge. Tahini and hot sauce are free on the meat but extra if you get them on the side. That's just wrong. Love the half grilled tomato they give you. Salad is all lettuce, 3 tiny slivers of tomato and cucumber the rest is all lettuce and onions. If you get a glass of water it's 6-oz cup. You literally have to get up 3 times to get the same amount of water you would at any other establishment. They run off a bare bones model. If I ordered what I expected, I would have paid extra for Tahini, extra for hot sauce, extra for hummus (in tiny container), and would have to buy water as the tap water they provide is ridiculous. This would have costed me over $22 dollars. Bit ridiculous considering your eating in to go containers and plastic cutlery. Could easily go to a 5 star, with these few changes : - chicken a bit dry, grill it a bit less - serve on a real plate, real cutlery - don't be cheap with sauces, salad ingredients, and water amounts. read more

The food here is relatively good, among the options in Oshawa. We usually order the shawarma plate or koobideh kebap and the quality is always good and tasty. It's unfortunate that the restaurant isn't open on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. It also closes pretty early in the evening (for people who like to order food past 7 pm). We arrived at 6:00 pm and most menu items were sold out (I'd say 75%). I was so disappointed (talk about lunch bag letdown). The food here is soooo good! We especially loved the Koobideh (ground beef), and the lamb kebabs. They are so well seasoned, and the barbecued kebabs are nice and juicy. Hey! It looks like I'm the first person to hate this restaurant, oh well. It's in an old renovated house, the decor is okay I guess but the seats are very cramped and uncomfortable (try sitting on a slab of concrete for half an hour, you'll get the idea), the service is slow and all that said if the food was great I would still give it 4 stars because that's what matters...the food! Unfortunately, the seat feels like sitting on a cloud when compared to the god awful food. Dry kabobs, salty rice, bland, bland, and one more time bland chicken! Quaint little place, parking is small in the back, but works for average to small size vehicles. I had the Vasiri (one skewer of Chicken Kabab and one skewer of Koobideh Kabab) - was quite good and meat was moist and flavourful! My wife had the Shawarma Plate (which isn't Persian), but, she enjoyed it too, tasty and the spicy is a good option when asked - get it! We also tried the Mirza Ghassemi as an appetizer and that was very tasty too - the pita bread was ok, but, it would have been really nice to have some fresh Lavash bread with it. When I crave shawarma, I come here! Great service, delicious food, and fair prices. The owners are lovely people. Hard workers! The food is traditionally made, and that's what makes it unique. The meats are amazing. The rice is perfectly cooked. The falafel is my favourite starter to the meal. The chicken is seasoned and cooked perfectly. The balsamic dressing is the perfect compliment to the salad. Just thinking about it is making me hungry for it! The price is great, the food is great, and the service is great! The kabobs are fantastic, love the koobidah! Usually order a falafel pita if it's lunch time and it's always perfect (possibly the best falafel in Oshawa). The Cyrus platter on the menu is perfect if you are a big eater or want leftovers for the next day. If I'm ordering take out, that and the mirza ghassemi is a meal for my wife and myself (the mirza ghaseemi is something I've only ever had here and it's a little bit addictive if you like eggplant). This place has amazing shawarma and I have eaten shawarma all over Toronto! The owners are incredibly nice and the staff are quite friendly! I only over have gotten the shawarma wrap because it is so delicious that I can't imagine ordering anything else! Being somewhat new to Durham Region, I have been looking for good places to eat in Durham. I have to say there are some slim pickins but I was very pleasantly surprised to come to Cyrus. Yes, the location is different since it's more like a converted house but looks like they recently renovated. I am a fan of Persian food and usually have to go all the way to Yonge Street (my fave is Taftan Kebab for this kind of price range). Cyrus is just as comparable if not better in some ways. We ordered the Koobideh special (#1) which was $8.25 (a bit pricier than the usual places on Yonge) but the salad was very fresh and good. The yogurt sauce they gave to accompany the koobideh really hit the spot. They included sumac and the traditional grilled tomato. No butter but since it was takeout, I added the butter myself when I got home. Also, as somewhat of an impulse buy (we only bought one order of takeout to try first b/c if it was going to turn out to be a bust, we are skeptics, then at least we only had one box of food to complain about). So the impulse order was a tomato, grilled eggplant dip that came with two pitas. It was very garlicy but oh so good. Very pleasant surprise. Will definitely be back to eat some more! FINALLY a good place in Durham region!!! Only reason it's not 5 stars is b/c well, I know that the prices are still relatively cheap but not as cheap as I'm used to being a Markham transplant. read more

I hit Cyrus' at least once a week and take out the Shawarma plate. At about 8.50 inc tax, very filling and tasty meal, excellent rice and comes with a salad. Very friendly family run business. I have been driving past this place for years and never noticed it because it is in a renovated house. My one complaint is parking very limited and hard to get in and out. I suggest parking around the corner on a side street so that you can get in and out easily. GREAT food. So tasty, hits the spot and at a great price! I had a chicken shwarma wrap dinner there around 5:30. Normally around 9 I am hungry again and fight eating before bedtime. I was satiated still when I went to bed around10:30. Not only is the food incredible but the service is the great too. Everything at Cyrus's is always consistent. Someone always greets you with a smile at the register, if it's not Cyrus himself one of the helpful ladies will. The chicken shawarma is incredible. Always a nice serving. Best shawarma sandwich hands down, this is coming from someone who has had shawarma from at least 40+ restaurants around the golden horseshoe. This is one of my favorite dishes to eat anywhere and Cyrus has master how to balance it perfectly. Also his hot sauce is a good blend of flavour and a hint of heat.
