I've had two terrible chicken shawarmas in Scarborough that were so damn dry that I've been dreaming of this platter at Laziza on Bloor near Dovercourt. The chicken is always so juicy and full of flavour. And the portions are always enough for 3 meals for me. And the rainbow colours of the veggies always brings me joy to look at! Their hummus and creamy garlic sauce are organic and fantastic. Make sure you get their roasted potatoes when they ask! Not many seats but we got one this time. Big thanks as always to the owner Al for making our super delicious works of art! Super nice guy! Highly recommend!

Please take my review into consideration knowing that I haven't been there in at least 15 years…read more That said, I feel like I owe this restaurant a review because it was such a big part of my life and holds so many wonderful memories for me. When I moved to Canada in 1995, this restaurant was within walking distance of my sister's apartment, so we ate there all the time. Back then, if I remember correctly, they had a buffet for around $15 per person, and it was an incredible value. The food was always fresh, delicious, and plentiful. This restaurant became part of many chapters of my life. When I got married, I brought my husband and his family there because I wanted them to experience the food I loved so much. Later, when I had my children, it became one of the places we would visit whenever we were in Mississauga. At one point, we even lived in Mississauga for about a year and a half, and if we couldn't make it to the restaurant, we would order takeout instead. The amazing thing was that the food was just as delicious at home as it was in the restaurant. The restaurant itself wasn't huge or fancy. It was simple, comfortable, and focused on what mattered most--the food. The staff were always welcoming, and everything seemed to run smoothly. To this day, the lentil soup and the kibbeh are stuck in my head. I honestly think they were some of the best I've ever had in my life. Sadly, I can't enjoy the kibbeh anymore because I have celiac disease and have to avoid gluten, but those flavors are still some of my favorite food memories. I also remember that the mother of the family was involved in the cooking. Whether she is still there, retired, or if the ownership has changed, I honestly don't know. Because it has been so many years since my last visit, I can't speak to how the restaurant is today. What I can say is that the memories I have of this place are wonderful. The food was excellent, the service was great, and it became one of those special restaurants that stayed with me throughout the years. The next time I'm in Mississauga, I plan to stop by and see if the food is still as amazing as I remember. If it is, I know I'll be leaving with a huge smile and a full heart.

Tarboosh Restaurant wasn't on my radar at all, but after Suresh Doss gave it a hearty…read morerecommendation, we figured we should stop by and check it out. We arrived around noon on a recent Saturday and the place was completely empty. A group of four fairly loud men showed up shortly after us and inexplicably sat at a table near us, but that's obviously not the restaurant's fault. The menu contained plenty of tasty-looking entrees, but I figured I'd grab the dish with the name of the restaurant in it: the Tarboosh ("Combination of shawarma and falafel"). The concoction arrived to the table quite a while later, which was weird considering how empty the joint was, and sure looked impressive. I dove right in. Everything on the plate was tasty but not mind-blowing. The chicken shawarma had a few crispy pieces, which was appreciated, but was mostly unreasonably dry. (The two included sauces helped with that, at least.) The falafel was fresh but strangely light. It didn't really have a strong flavor of anything, really. I enjoyed eating it, but it definitely didn't remind me of traditional falafel. The hummus was creamy but lacking in a strong chickpea flavor (i.e. the concoction was overwhelmed by tahini, essentially). However, once I began eating everything together, I began enjoying everything a lot more. The included bread help, too, even though it was far from the best middle-eastern bread I've ever had. Tarboosh is a mixed bag, that's for sure. If you're in the area, it's worth a try. I don't think I would travel to far to check it out, though.

We passed so many places along the way, but couldn't figure out which one would be a hit or possibly even a miss. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect. My search just had me looking for a place that made fresh food, not a franchise chain, but a place with some great reviews. This is how we found Mister Laffa Shawarma House. Instantly when I walked in and saw the spit of juicy fresh chicken shawarma, I knew we found THE spot! We were greeted warmly when we walked in. 2 gentleman working, one making FRESH (OMG) laffa bread, and the other slicing up the chicken for the people ahead of us. The assortment of vegetables and sandwich wrap toppings were fresh, very cleanly arranged and set up. The juicy glistening chicken had me right away and I made a beeline to the counter to order. Hubby and I ordered 2 chicken shawarma plates. This came with the options of: Rice with lentils - wow this was so amazing - I make this at home myself, so I was super impressed! Salad options including tabbouleh and building your own with options including: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onions Fresh warm laffa bread - I could have eaten 2-3 of these myself (order a sandwich with this bread - you will not be disappointed!) Hummus Garlic sauce Tahini Coleslaw Onions with sumac Some of their options for sandwiches and plates include: Chicken Shish Kebab (dark or white meat) Beef Shish Kebab Lamb Shish Kebab Kefta Lamb Shish Kebab We stuck with salad and tabbouleh, hummus on the side, rice with lentils and garlic & tahini sauce. Each platter came with 1 laffa bread - we loved it so much they gave us 2 extra at no charge. The chicken was so fresh and full of flavour, dark meat that was juicy and not dry at all, the seasoning was perfection. Truthfully, this meal was so fresh and so good, that it tasted homemade. I took away 1 star for the hummus, tahini & garlic sauce. Hummus needed more garlic and lemon, garlic sauce the garlic was really suttle and a bit on the runny side and same with the tahini. Vaughan def has a lot of great shawarma options, that I am really looking forward to trying. I will also be returning here ti try some of the other meat options, plus I am already craving the fresh laffa! Stay tuned!

Sababa in Thornhill doesn't chase trends--it outlives them. I've been eating here for 30 years,…read morewhich in restaurant time is basically surviving a war, and Sababa is still standing, still feeding people the way it always has: honest, soulful Middle Eastern food that shows up every day and does the job right. This is the kind of place where the menu hasn't been "reimagined," because it never needed to be. The chicken skewers dinner is a personal staple--charred just enough, juicy where it counts, seasoned with the confidence. The shawarma is famous for a reason: shaved hot, spiced deep, and piled without apology. You start with the dip platter because that's what you do here--hummus, tahini, baba ghanoush--the opening handshake before the real conversation begins. Attached to the restaurant is a grocery store that feels like a lifeline--shelves of hard-to-find ingredients, spices, and staples that remind you food isn't just something you order, it's something you live with. There's also a takeout counter with a few tables, perfect for quick eats that turn into longer stays because the food demands your attention. Sam Azar founded the place, and the legend goes deeper than the menu--he even made their lentil soup recipe public, giving it away to the newspapers like a gift, not a secret. That generosity still hangs in the air. Today, his children carry the torch, and you can feel the continuity: same spirit, same standards, same refusal to mess with something that works. Sababa isn't flashy. It's better than that. It's dependable, rooted, and quietly excellent--the kind of restaurant you measure your life around, not your Instagram feed. Find calm fam atmosphere, not TikTok madness with a side of chaos. CHEERS!!!
