    Lamb shank
    Chris C.

I've been trying to explore more Durham restaurants and have come across some good ones. This place caught my attention a while ago and tonight was the time to try it. I had intended to order some kind of kabob but the lamb shank for 13.99 kinda grabbed my attention. That's it! I ordered and paid at the counter and the food was delivered to my table. The portion was bigger than I expected, especially for the price. The meat was moist and tender, almost falling off the bone. It had a lot of flavour. The seasoned rice was very good too. So was their hot sauce, kinda similar to a salsa. I can honestly say it was the best lamb shank I've had for 13.99. In fact, it's the only lamb shank I've had for that price. Excellent value! The food was very good and deserves a higher overall rating but there's one thing that I can't ignore. This place was hot! I was sweating like crazy and it wasn't caused by the hot sauce. Outside was considerably cooler. I'll order takeout next time.

Grabbed a quick chicken kabob pita sandwich to go and it was a ok. Not sure why the decor is so over the top at this place (think fireplace, dark dining room, crystal balls hanging from the ceiling...etc) since the menu doesn't strike me as a fancy, sit-down kind of joint. They have extensive take out menu which I may try out sometime. The take out menu is not all "Afghan" and I'm not sure if that would make the quality of their food suffer. L.A .short with fries from Afghan Cuisine? I'm not so sure.

Durham region is quickly changing. The diversity and culture in this region is nice to see. With all that culture comes the food of course. On a Friday night, tired of the usual, decided to try this place. I have always had good experiences with other Afghan places , such as Bamiyan Kabob in Scarborough and Maimana Naan down the street. I love afghan food so it should be a win..win. This place wasn't very business. It was clean and the decor was quite nice. I ordered the Beef & Chicken Kebab dinner. My wife ordered the Beef Seekh Kebab. The girl at the counter told us that one dinner wouldn't be enough for two people. We did want to share, but after hearing her advice we ordered two. Big mistake!!! Or a good mistake depending on how you might look at it. The portions are huge!! But it was also very tasty, we ordered the dogh drink as well. It's a must have in a place like this. All in all I can't complain, we will be back!

This is my go to Afghan restaurant . The quality of ingredients are excellent. Everything is made fresh to order and the portions are generous. I recommend the 5pcs tandoori chicken dinner. The meat is so tender and seasoned perfectly. The decor is very tasteful. Simple and clean. Place your order at the counter and seat yourself.

Good service and very clean! The only thing I wasn't impressed was is the food, since the meat isn't cooked properly!

Lucky for me the day I stopped by they were having a special of the day which was a shawarma wrap with either beef or chicken, fries, and a can soda for 9.99. I opted for the chicken. The chicken was marinated so it had tons of flavor. The wrap is filled with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and a nice sauce, I added a spicy sauce which is not too hot but added a little kick. The fries were standard, no complaints. They also give you decent amount. Overall, this joint is good and I will definitely be back. No complaints with the food or the service. Most importantly they have great value for the price.

The Mantoo were unlike any that I'd had before, and were very awesome. They have a little spicy bite, so I would be wary if you are a type who shies away from spicy food. The preparation is unlike any that I have seen before: like a small dumpling, chickpea and yogurt stew. Sounds good? Well, I think that it's great. How do they get that mantou pastry to be so thin? I could never do it. Same goes for the bolanee. Very lovely, thin pastry stuffed with potato and leek. Bolanee is a very wqonderful appetizer, but don't overdo it, because here's what's coming next: Lamb Shank with Qabuli rice. The raisin and almond studded rice was magnificent. When paired with the lamb, the flavours sang! Verdict: I'll order from them again. Lovely Friday Night meal, without me having to cook a thing!!

Wow! Absolutely fabulous…read more The regular Afghan restaurant we go to changed their hours and are no longer open for lunch on the weekends. Such a shame. Oh well, ever onward! It gave us the opportunity to try a new place... which is actually closer to home. Our first time here, we picked up a takeaway. The presentation wasn't much to look at but based on the taste, I knew I would be back. We ordered Chicken Breast Kebab, Barg Kebab and Herati Kebab, all from their Keto menu. The next time we dined in. If you want to get your money's worth, this is definitely the way to go. (I don't know if it was a one-off but we got half the food when we ordered the takeaway.) This time we ordered Sardari Kebab and the Lamb Chops. We also ordered the Lamb Shank with the Kabuli rice to take home for dinner. Their lamb is really tender and flavourful. The lamb shank was a little fatty but that what you get sometimes with lamb shank. The Kabuli rice is phenomenal and will be included in every order going forward! Oh, and their naan is really good too. Today I found myself there yet again. Continuing to work my way through their menu, I opted for their Beef Kofta Kebab and my friend ordered their Chicken Breast Kebab. We both had the Kabuli rice. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is spacious and nicely structured for a good flow. The staff are very pleasant and there's just an overall great vibe here. I'm glad we found this place and I imagine I will find myself here often.

Hmmm, as much as I wanted to really like this place, I found it underwhelming and disappointing,…read moreespecially after enjoying the food at their Scarborough location. There's really no comparison. The food on the buffet was not very fresh, as I discovered too late. The flavours in some of the dishes was good but the fried or grilled dishes were kinda dry and some of the stewed dishes had been out too long without being stirred. You could see a distinct difference after stirring it up. The butter chicken was perhaps the best dish. Some of the meat dishes seemed to fare better than the veggie dishes. The salad bar was no better. Some of the containers were practically empty the entire time I was there, therefore I really didn't have much veggies. The best part of my meal was the hot naan, made to order. As far as the crowd goes, there was one large table of ladies when I arrived. They looked like they were celebrating something. Two families of four came in, and another large table of maybe 16 people came in but didn't stay. Hmmm, maybe they looked at the buffet tables. As far as service goes, I was pretty much left on my own. My first plate (empty) was still on the table when I finished eating. I was offered the naan halfway through my first plate. At the end, it became obvious that nobody was bringing a bill so I got up, paid, and left. That's too bad. Although it's been a while since I've been to their Scarborough location. the service and food are much better. And much cheaper too! At just over $21, including tax, this was not a good deal.

As soon as we walked in, I noticed that the entire restaurant was a ghost town, there was absolutely no customers on a Monday night. I decided to try the Beef Seekh Kebab Plate, and I'm so glad I did! I also ordered it to be spicy. This dish came with two large kebabs, rice, a small salad and naan for $11.50 In our group of 8, about half of the people got a kebab dish, while the other ordered butter chicken. Every dish came with one naan which they served in baskets all together. Usually when you go to a South Asian restaurant, the food is ordered and served family style. In this case it wasn't, every entry was served to each individual. I was also able to try the butter chicken and the Reshami Kebab. The butter chicken was really tasty! Something I personally look for in a butter chicken is if the gravy is not sweet. A lot of restaurants serve it with a sweeter gravy, but thankfully this wasn't the case here. The Reshami Kebab was ground Chicken based with a strong flavour of coriander. It was good, but a tad bit dry, but that may be because chicken doesn't have as much fat in it to seal in the flavour Overall, I had a pretty good experience and I might come back for the Seekh Kebab because it's a good option for takeout if you're in the area. I wouldn't recommend dining in here, as the service is VERY slow and the restaurant is often empty. They also only have paper takeout menus for dine in, which they ask for back which was a bit strange to me.
