I'm always glad to see new eateries opening in the East end as the dining choices can be slim out in Durham region. I have tried Osmow's on Morningside and when I saw this one open in Pickering, I thought I'd give it a try. The location here is much bigger than the Morningside one and cleaner, too. We tried their Friday falafel special and a chicken shawarma wrap and both were acceptably tasty. The falafel special comes drowned in a variety of sauces which at first glance can seem a bit alarming to sauce-a-phobs like me. But addition of sauces did not overload the falafels and all in all, I enjoyed my lunch. The chicken shawarma wrap was HUGE and flavourful although I'm not sure if I really like sliced black olives in my shawarma wraps. I came here for the first time on Sunday afternoon when I was craving their famous garlic sauce. I decided to just get fries with garlic sauce since I wasn't too hungry at the time ( $5.15) . The fries were freshly made and lightly salted and drizzled with the famous garlic sauce. I also ordered a Falafel sandwich, which unfortunately will be my last time ordering this item. Their sandwich fixings are okkkk and their selection of sauces are not the greatest. Generally when you go to Osmow's it's always best to stick to the classic dishes like Chicken on the Rocks, Stix (or half & half) or alternatively falafel or beef if you're in the mood for something different. I honestly would never advise someone to get a wrap from Osmows in general, especially on their first visit. My go to order is: Chicken on the Rocks & Stix (half & half) - with two lines of hot sauce, it is super filling - enough for almost two people Overall, I think I might give this place another go, but I'll definitely be sticking to my usual order next time. read more

So I finally decided to check this place out after all of the advertising for Osmow's during the Raptors games. I walked in on a Saturday night with the intention to grab take out. I was able to place my order pretty easy. The only stage that's kind of confusing is when they ask whether you want extra toppings or sauces since I don't know what it comes with to begin with and I still kind of don't. I just went with no extras so I could have the pure unadultered version of everything. One of the items I ordered was the Osmow's Mixed Grill which is a huge plate of all the meats (chicken shawarma, beef kofta, chicken kebab, and their signature chicken). The menu indicated that it came with onions and green peppers as well as two sides. During the ordering phase though I was only asked what I wanted it on top of (rice, fries, or veggies) and then asked what kind of salad I wanted (garden, Caesar). I guess the salad counts as a fixed side? After I placed my order and paid, there was some dialogue between the cashier who took my order and one of the other staff who was cooking. She kinda barked something at him and he told me to hang on just in case as he ran to the back. He came out carrying a bag of frozen vegetables and gave me a thumbs up. I think the cook was worried that there weren't any vegetables left. That blue and white 750g bag looked familiar to me and I'm 99% sure it was the Compliments "California Style" frozen veggies that you would find in your freezer aisle at Fresh Co. It kind of makes sense because the Fresh Co is pretty much just down the street at the next intersection. Would it kill them to use fresh vegetables? Food court type fast food only places like Edo Japan are able to do this for cheaper. I did just pay $18.99 before taxes for this *one* dish so that's annoying... I was also told that my order would take extra time to prepare, 15 minutes to be precise. I think this partially to do with having to cook those veggies from freezer burned. It seemed like they had a steady stream of customers coming in and it looked like most people were ordering for take out. There are a few tables of 4 if you are looking to eat in. There was a large TV that could be seen from almost all the tables that was playing CP24. I saw my food being prepared and it was really hot and fresh off the grill and went straight into the Styrofoam containers. No lining, nothing. I'm a little spoiled since I spend a lot of time in California and most cities have banned styrofoam in restaurants completely there. I understand needing a to go box for cooled food and using styrofoam in those cases but putting piping hot greasy food into a foam box makes my skin crawl. I really wasn't a fan of that, especially because everything here is a little pricier. I'd think they could afford better containers that aren't a health risk to their customers but perhaps they are just aiming for the one and done visits. The meat in the Mixed Grill dish was almost indistinguishable with some being more charred tasting. I had also ordered the Chicken on the Stix (the other item was for sharing) so I was able to tell which meat in the Mixed Grill was chicken shawarma and what was the other chicken but everything else was just...meat. The vegetables weren't bad. I think they seasoned them with something. The sauce on everything helps with the taste. I was taking bites of everything and noticed that I couldn't bite through something in my mouth. It was clear plastic. It might have been from the lettuce in the salad. Not a good look. Sooo...did it taste good? Some of it did. Was it pricey? Yeah I think it was compared to most shawarma places. The chicken shawarma on fries was $10.69 before tax. It didn't have anything else. I go to this Chipotle type place that is Middle Eastern and I can get an entire bowl with more than just fries and just chicken for the same price. I hate that I had to eat around literal plastic and that the styrofoam is also just straight up bad for you. It was really a weird visit. Done with this one, walking away now. read more

I've ordered here what, 50 times by now? Osmows is something I crave at least once a month. They have the best Garlic Sauce in the business and their shawarma is always consistent. The only thing that I sort of get upset by is the containers they use for delivery and takeout since they leak constantly with all the sauces in there. Shwarma pitas are delicious and they have a varied menu. Everything seems very fresh.

The wife wanted something different. I thought Sharma could be something new to try. I mean the Raptors players eat this stuff. My wife got the chicken sharma. I got the assorted meat platter both with rice. We also selected mild spice given that this was our first try. We both thought the food was great. The meat was lightly seasoned and not dry. The rice was not over or under cooked. I was ready to write up a decent review but the next day my wife wasn't feeling too good. By the second day she had quite the upset stomach. For the record hadn't had anything else as we had eaten in. Soup, salad, KD. Like the only thing that strayed was the dine out. Now may be the wife was allergic to a spice and we did not know. Had the beef shawarma salad nothing about it was Middle Eastern. I didn't taste any middle eastern spices. It was a garden salad with beef, that I'm pretty sure didn't come fresh off the spit because I was pretty ill feeling the following day. Although it was a great garden salad that's all it was. For almost $20.00. it had no hummus, pickled turnip, tabouli not one chickpea, the toum was tasteless. The only reason I came here was because Afghan Kebab next plaza over was closed. I visited this place with my girlfriend and was uterly disappointed. Firstly, how do they claim they are a shawarma restuarant when they do not cut the meat fresh from the spit!!?!? I typically don't write negative reviews but the shawarma sandwich I just ate-ish was not acceptable. The chicken was ok (although not cut fresh off the spit), the veg was ok too, but they put so much of the garlic sauce on, without me being able to see and maybe say hold off. I think the garlic sauce actually tasted ok but it was so over sauced I had to spit it out. Was definitely not the authentic shawarma flavours I was expecting when I ordered. Maybe it's canadianized, hence the over saucing? But it didn't work for me I want to like them because I'm a huge raps fan lol. I was here last evening with a friend of mine and our experience both from an experience as well as hospitality was extremely poor. Individual @ the cash register suggested that it wouldn't be worth our while to order rice as they didn't have rice cooked. She went over and looked at what appeared to be the rice cooker and said "oh yeah" no rice. Fast forward 10 mins later the restaurant is serving rice to new walk ins. Have some integrity guys people are paying for a meal that includes rice. If you don't have rice, suggest people to either 1) order something that doesn't include rice or 2) may be reduce the price. That's just good old hospitality. Having advertised the place as middle eastern may be know that this is a period where people fast and come in and expect to be served a decent meal specially when they are ordering your top of the line menu item which again is not cheap to begin with. Please also bear in mind your obligation of a guest experience is not to stop at just giving the food but to manage the entire guest experience. I still will be visiting Osmow's because not all locations are the same and I certainly dont want to ruin it for the person who introduced me to this great chain and good food but this was not worth the money. read more
